My first gun, very impressed.

By Ryan

I'm from the midwest and just getting into spearfishing. my first time out with this gun I got a 20lb carp. second time out I got 5 freshwater drum (sheepshead). Its easy to use, just point and shoot :) I wanted a gun that was big enough to fit my needs here in the midwest and yet also be able to take to a saltwater location from time to time. Probably not big enough for deep, blue water fishing of larger game, but should handle anything up to 40 lbs pretty easily I would think. Very happy with my purchase.

Great bang for buck

tip wants to sink so you need to hold it up which can be tiring...I may experiment and try to add some floation to the front so its easier to take on long dives

How many shafts and tips does it come with?
A shopper on Jul 20, 2012
BEST ANSWER: One shaft, one tip. Def buy some extra points and even put some thread locker (blue NOT red) to limit the tips unscrewing over time.
Can i configure this model with the double bands like on the Elite model and have the range of the Elite? I do not like the open muzzle design of the Elite, that is reason fot question.
A shopper on Feb 19, 2012
BEST ANSWER: It has room for 2 3/4" bands, although I still have mine with the 3 9/16" bands it came with. I'll probably swap them out next season for a 2 band set up.
Can I use JBL 4" (10.2 cm) Gulf Slip Tip Complete Assembly? Which will be the correct size?
A shopper on Nov 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The JBL Gulf Slip Tip will work with the Sawed Off Magnum as long as the correct thread and shaft diameters are selected for the spearhead. Woody Sawed Off Magnums come standard with 6mm threads and 5/16" (8mm) diameter shafts.
so im looking to buy a speargun for the first time as i just got into diving, but i was wondering what the advantages/disadvantages of the open and closed muzzles?
A shopper on Sep 26, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I purchased the open muzzle used it 3 times, sold it and bought the closed 52, this is a great size gun for all around use, especially in close quarters or dirty conditions. I like the JBL and feel it is a quality product, it is easy to load and shoot. I normally use my longer 62 inch gun for open / clear water or for free shafting. I mounted an Intova 220 lumin light to the front underside of my 52, removed the line which I replaced with a 22 foot coil type line, now I can free shaft with it or use the coil for shooting under rocks or ledges, so I do not loose my shaft. Using the coil or free shafting is much faster than using a line. My problem with the open muzzle was getting the line attached quickly, while my buddies were shooting all the fish. The line length is to short for shooting in open water. keep in mind I have always used a closed muzzle, and could not make the adjustment. All modifications were made with items purchased from Leisure, except the parts for the light attachment. West marine tiller parts $5 worth.

Trying to decide between this gun and the JBL Elite Woody Sawed Off Magnum 53". Any opinioins???
A shopper on Jul 27, 2012
BEST ANSWER: both are good guns, The 52" however is harder to load (2 bands vs. 3 for 52"). I use my 52" every Sat. and Sun. for reef hunting. I had it for over 2 years and maybe 300 dives, no issue at all, Knock on the wood :)
what kind of wood is it?
A shopper on May 26, 2012
BEST ANSWER: African mahogany
