Fantastic BC and an amazing value

By Jarrod S.

 -  Nashville , TN, US

Needed to replace my 1990s US Divers Cousteau BC (because it doesn't fit any more). I was not initially considering the Tusa brand but when I tried on last year's Liberator Sigma model at a local shop was hooked. The new Sigma II model adds upgraded padding on the inside of the back plate, but sacrifices an integrated accessory clip. A wise tradeoff if you ask me. These can be adjusted to fit just about any size/shape person. I'll certainly never need to replace this due to weight loss o...

Good BCD - Great when you add APA!

By Snorkel C.

This is my second BCD. My first was a travel BC, which I was not happy with. I added the APA inflator/deflator to this BC, which takes the whole experience up a notch. The fit was great, and the construction seems very solid. I did 7 dives recently in St Thomas, and I can't imagine ever needing anything more in a BC. I am 5' 10" 195lbs, and the "Large" fits well with room for adjustment up and down depending on level of protection. And of course, LP's pricing and delivery was great, as usual.

The highly anticipated BC-0101 Liberator Sigma II Buoyancy Compensator is a heavy-duty, wrap-around jacket Style BC that utilizes TUSA's Advanced Weight Loading System and Ultimate Stabilizing Harness, which ensures security and stability. With its two large, double zippered pockets with mesh drainage, you can maximize utility and function. TUSA's Advanced Weight Loading System (AWLS) allows the diver to insert weights into the weight-cartridges and loading them easily into the front of the BC jacket. Additionally, with weight distribution to the shoulder area, the weighted-down feeling that is traditionally associated with weight belts is eliminated. Weight cartridges can accommodate from 8 lbs. (3.63 kg) to 10 lbs. (4.54 kg) of weight in each cartridge and two rear trim pockets can hold up to 4 lbs. (2 kg) in each non-releasable pocket. The AWLS weight cartridges are easy to release in an emergency, but the safety lock makes sure that they do not release accidentally.

The key to comfort with the Liberator Sigma II BCD is its Independent Harness System (IHS). The IHS isolates the BC jacket's harness from the air cell, tightly supporting the tank even with changes in air cell inflation/deflation. The IHS prevents tank slippage and eliminates any gaps between the tank and your back. The Liberator Sigma II BCD uses TUSA's next generation IHS featuring an Integrated-Carry-Handle, additional adjustability to dial in a perfect fit and a neutrally buoyant construction allowing the diver to shed the lead removing approximately 2 lbs. (1 kg) of lead from their system. TUSA's Ultimate Stabilizing Harness (USH) completely-eliminates tank roll and delivers an amazing fit. The USH securely holds the air cylinder in place with optimally placed rails and brings the tank closer to the body increasing tank control while reducing weight.

The RITETITE buckle is a 2-position cam strap for quick and easy adjustment. While the strap is being looped through the buckle, the buckle stays in place without needing to be held. This allows for more control and stability. This feature is part of all TUSA BCJ's. The BCD has an adjustable sternum strap for maximum comfort. The W.S.S. integrates the adjustable shoulder harness system with the rear stabilizing plate and cummerbund to effectively unload the hips while ensuring a snug fit. BCD is made from durable 500-Cordura nylon with an internal urethane laminated air cell. BCD has, 2-large zippered pockets for storage of accessories. Torso adjustable shoulder straps provide excellent comfort and adjustable waist strap with cummerbund provides precise adjustment of harness. All straps are equipped with squeeze-style" side-release buckles for easy donning and doffing. Buoyancy is controlled by TUSA's patented O.P.E.V. Quick inflate/Deflate System. Trimming buoyancy is easy with 2-dump/overpressure relief valves. BCD provides 18 lbs. to 46 lbs. (8.16 kg to 20.9 kg) of lift depending on the BCD size. Accessory attachment is made easy with 1-stainless-steel D-ring and 4-resin D-rings. BCD comes with an owner's manual and a 3/8" threaded low-pressure (LP) hose.

No third relief value and manually blowing BC would be difficult

Mouth piece is not designed for comfort, therefore inflating it manually is difficult. Need to have a real mouth piece added

Great beginner BC for a great price, has all the features you need.

It’s all true

So nice to have a new BC and it performs like an old friend!

Tisa liberator sigma 2

By ANDRE P.

Love this bcd. Fits nicely and has adjustable easy strap/Velcro connector which is a plus for me being as I weigh 320 lbs. don’t be fooled by the recommended weight of 250 lbs as it works great for me and I’m well above the recommended weight. Also love the removable front integrated weigh pockets and the rear weight pockets with snap closed buckles. Easily holds 18 lbs plus as I use a hefty 18lbs when diving due to my large body fat content which keeps me afloat.

I'll certainly never need to replace this due to weight loss or gain, as I had to with my old Cousteau. The integrated weight system works perfectly and I was able to get my trim just right with very little effort. I won't miss my weight belt! The storage pockets are terrific - nice and big with good quality double-zippers for opening/closing either direction. There are also lots of attachment points for flexible arrangement of your gear. I liked it so much we ended up buying the same model for my wife and kids, so we now have 4 of these. Everybody loves it and the medium size adjusts to fit my 5'6" large-busted, wide-hipped wife just as well as it fits my 6'1' 180lb wiry teen boy. My one and only complaint upon receiving them was that there is only one tank strap because I'm used to having two. However, after 12 dives with AL80s, the tank hasn't slipped even 1mm as far as I can tell, so this appears to have just been FUD on my part. After using it, my one and only wish is that there was a way to contain the inflator assembly close to your body. It tends to dangle beneath you when swimming over a reef. I miss the velcro attachment that was on my Cousteau - I may have to try to rig something like that up for this one.

Great BC

I have used this product in all forms of diving and find it easy to use, comfortable, durable and there is a slight improvement in the wt pockets compared to the prior model.

Good for regular use

By scott p.

Very good user friendly BCD. Coming from a Dacor it’s a little bulky but that’s because of the large pockets. The weight integrated system takes a little getting use to but is secure and comfortable once in place. Would buy again.

Nice BCD, weight release could use some work

By Gajanan K.

It's a great BCD. My only criticism is that the "Advance Weight Release System" requires 2 pulls to release. Also 2 latches to click in. If both don't properly lock either your weights will release or won't release. But other than that, good pocket room, good fit, good price.

Tusa BCD review

By Casey L.

from Phoenix, AZ, US

It is inexpensive so it's missing a few things such as a shoulder release valve,. But it's weight integrated and has some D rings to have your gear. Good buy for beginner or intermediate diver

Above average BCD

By Traveler

I have used this BCD on over 60 dives and it has performed well. It is durable and has survived some rough treatment onboard the small Zodic boats used by Sicilian dive shops (they can pack them tight with divers and equipment!). The only draw backs are that it only has one stainless D ring and the other 2 are plastic and small. The major issue that I have with it is the Velcro waist strap, it is too longer than what it really needs to be. It seems that it was made with 45+ inch waist divers. My waist is a 34 and when strapped it has about 6 inches of material left over.

comfortable, economical BC

By Nugget

I bought this as an economical start to outfitting myself with equipment. This is a very comfortable bc that allows for a full range of motion. If I could change one thing, it'd be to make the weight pockets bigger. I only use 3lbs (each side), but a bigger soft weight might not fit.

No third relief value and manually blowing BC would be difficult

Mouth piece is not designed for comfort, therefore inflating it manually is difficult. Need to have a real mouth piece added

John P  This will compliment the Tusa system I bought for my son. It's High Quality with good features for the warm water diving he'll be doing most of the time. As he progress's he can decide what features he wants and upgrade just as I did. The Leisure Pro guarantee really can't be beat!!!
Shopper  Where is the BCD made?
ANDRE P  I don’t know the answer to that. That’s a question for the manufacturer but I can say it’s a great BC. HAVE used it several times in Cayman Islands and Cozumel. Big pockets for weights and also has integrated pull out pouches for weights. I love this BC
Matthew M  Made in Taiwan. I found the black label on the left side, bottom rear. It’s a great standard BCD, just be sure the weight pockets are really clicked in all the way before every dive. It has few places to easily clip accessories.
Patrick M  The two I have say product of Tabitha. So, it could be: USA, Australia, or one of their other locations. That being said... they do have a location in Taiwan. Both of mine are awesome.
Shopper  does it have pockets on the side ?
KATHERINE B  Yes this BCD has a total of four side pockets. Two good size on each side that I carry a roll up snorkel in the right pocket and gloves in the left pocket if I don’t need them but want with me. I could add more to them if dive called for more gadgets. It also has two small pockets at bottom on each side that I carry glow sticks and extra cutting tool.
DANEIEL H  Yes large pockets
MANUEL M  Have a single big pocket on each side of BCD
Blake G  Yes, it has a zippered pocket on each side of the BCD.
