Quality doesn't come cheap.

Some time ago I bought this Sync cord to go with a Sea & Sea YS-D2 strobe. Later I bought a second strobe and figured that I could save a few bucks buying a no name cord on EBay. Big mistake! There is a world of difference! The Sea & Sea is thicker and much better made. On a trip to the Maldives the no name brand came loose often causing many missed shots. I have replaced it with a second Sea & Sea cord as soon as I returned. Don't go cheap. It will cost more in the end.

If you have a Sea & Sea Strobe and want to connect it to your compact digital camera via the on-camera flash the Sea & Sea Fiber Optics II Sync Cord is what you're looking for. The Sea & Sea Fiber Optic Cable II is a coiled sync cord to link an underwater strobe to your cameras waterproof housing. It is compatible with all Sea & Sea strobes and housings. It allows your strobe to be triggered by your cameras built-in flash.

Its coiled design allows for more length potential without tangling and to accommodate complete flexibility of all strobe angles. The cable is composed of methacrylic resin, which is a combination of 613 fibers. Compared with single fiber cables, the Fiber-Optic Cable II is more resistant to distortion, bending and physical impact. This allows for increased durability. The cable is also bi-directional and is designed for use with internal optical YS-converters. Cable is available in multiple lengths of 12", 18" and 29" (30.5cm, 45.7cm and 73.67cm) depending on camera housing and strobe set up. The fiber diameter is 0.059" (1.5mm) and the cable diameter is 0.105" (2.7mm).

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

PETER S  What is the over lenght, tip to tip? Or is the. lenght of a 12" cable, 12" tip to tip or 12" tip to coil?
SCOTT S  This is the length of the cable when the coil is relaxed.
PETER S  So it is the length tip to tip coil relaxed. Correct?
Daniel K  I see these cords have a coil, how much farther do they stretch to in addition to the noted length?
SCOTT S  These cables come in different lengths so that they are not normally stretched, but give flexibility while moving camera arms or if the cable gets caught on anything.
DEBBIE S  Maybe 25-39% more. But the intention of the coils is to allow you to thread the cable securely between your camera’s housing and the stripe, taking strain off the ends where it is connected. I would guess it safely stretches another 3 inches without causing a problem.
Phil R  Will this work with a nimar dsl-r housing? Is there a better cord you can recommend?
BENJAMIN G  Don't know
MARY L  I don't see any ports for light cord. You might talk to the person you bought the housing from.
LORI A  Will this cord work with a Nauticam NA-G15 housing?
WILLIAM G  You should write/call Nauticam to see what is compatible...
YAN G  According to the Nauticam website, yes it is. You might want to double check with the manufacturer of the housing, which we do not carry.
Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
MICHAEL E  Best and most durable.
CHRISTINE W  can't seem to find my original - need a replacement.
