Warm and comfortable

By JAMES E.

It is comfortable and warm. It does not “stretch” like neoprene. That is neither good or bad, just a fact. And the sizing runs on the big side. I thought XL from my measurements, but a L would have fit better. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase.

Sharkskin Chill-Proof Long Sleeve Shirt by Bare is 100% Chill-Proof Material and is great as a standalone garment and suitable for under a wetsuit. By itself or underneath a long sleeve wetsuit this top provides the ultimate protection from cold and wind. It has a soft neoprene neck seal to help keep wind, water, spray and waves from entering. The long sleeves offer additional protection from the cold and sun and the thumb tabs (loops) assist when pulling a wetsuit on over the top. The long sleeve design provides the best protection for extreme conditions on-or-under the water.

Sharkskin Chill-Proof Material is an aquatic specific, windproof 3-layer composite material that has been developed for water sports athletes. The comfortable micro fleece' layer is next to the skin and wicks' moisture and sweat away from the body to help keep you dry. The second middle technical' layer is 100% windproof yet breathes to regulate body temperature while stopping wind chill. The third outer layer is a nylon/Lycra blend for abrasion resistance and 4-way stretch. It is also UV resistant for sun protection and has a durable water repellent finish (DWR) to provide a protective shell that sheds' water. Sharkskin Climate Control Chill-Proof is neutrally buoyant, anti-microbial, odor resistant, itch resistant and machine washable. The shirt is black in color and available in multiple sizes.

Not as good as Lavacore

Ok product. Runs small so you need to buy larger than you normally would. But then it stretches out before your first trip is over. Warmth is good but fit is poor due to the immediate relaxation. Not as good as Lavacore if you can find that product.

Sharkskin Long Sleeve Shirt

By Ted

Great shirt to be used as an intermediary warmth for diving or waterskiing besides a wetsuit jacket. Functions similarly but not at higher costs. I stayed plenty warm on cool dives at 60 deg F

Good Product.

Wear under wet suit and drysuit. A little hard to get on for the first few times until it gets wet then they will stretch a bit making it easier to get on and off... Go an extra size the chart told me XL so I went 2XL- and glad I did.

Sharkskin vs lavacore

By Eric P.

from New York, NY, US

I own a lavacore top and was happy with it but it always had a strange odor after diving. I'd wash it in mirazyme but it always came back. Sharkskin doesn't seem to have that problem. As compared to lavacore they both function pretty much the same, though sharkskin has a tougher shell and nice neoprene collar. I assist open water scuba classes in a pool at 78 degrees and with just the top and I don't start to feel a chill until the 2 hour mark. When I dive dry, I'm good with my 4mm neoprene drysuit, sharskin top and bottom in 42 degree water. As far as fit, I'm 6ft, 220lbs, 44 chest, 37 waist and a 2XL fits good. If not for being little snug under the arm pits, I could have gotten a size smaller. It has a lot of stretch. It also dries very fast turned inside out and does keep you warm on the surface even when wet.

Fits very small

By John w.

I am 5 10 BMI 24 I wear a size 40 jacket The medium bottoms are perfect. Med top wouldn't get over my shoulders I can't the the large on by my self I am hoping 3rd time is the charm with XL It is to go under a dry suit so I don't want it to feel like a 7mm wet suit. Nice and soft, stretchy, and comfy otherwise.

Good stuff but, still not a replacement for a wetsuit.

By PETER S.

I've tried both: Sharkskin and Lavacore and, while the Sharkskin definitely wins, I still get cold diving it in warm water. Specifically, it doesn't appear to hold your body heat the way a wetsuit does. As a consequence, I still use these fleece solutions in summer months while diving warm climates like the Caribbean but recently purchased a new wetsuit for use in winter months.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
WILLIAM A  Love to dive with just the top
Dragan K  This is a great product
Shopper  Can this plus the pants be worn under a 3mm wetsuit for extra warmth?
NEAL P  The shirt fits comfortably under A wetsuit and improves insulation
Mark F  I haven't actually done this but when I was diving in the Socorro Islands there was a couple that wore them under a 5 mm suit which is less "stretchy" than the 3mm.... I wear these under my drysut. for extra warmth when I go ice diving with out added buoyancy... Just remember to buy a size larger as the fit snug - otherwise you will struggle getting them on and off....
Bobby S  . I ordered the top but it got lost in shipping,
Walt N  How quickly does this shirt dry while being worn? While hanging on a hanger?
KISANG K  It depends on climate.. but normally, takes almost half a day when using hanger.
Bobby S  clue how long it takes to dry either way. I ordered one but never received it
David P  After a good dive and you take it off to hang, it will take several hours for it to be completely dry. The water will tend to fall to the lower half of the shirt. I normally just ring it out after a dive and then continue to wear it and your body heat will dry it quicker in about an hour or so. I have literally ditched my 2mm dive suit and only dive with this top and the matching pants. Although pricey, you won't be disappointed in the Sharkskin line especially this shirt. Its breathable and retains heat at the same time and feels good even in Caribbean waters. In colder waters <60 degrees, I have gotten by with wearing this as an underlayer and a 2-4mm suit.
Stephen O  Truth is I never thought about how much time it took to dry, on or off. I only know it works for me and I love it. Just got back from Cozumel did three two tank dives and it made a big difference in warmth. Steve Oldt
DEAN K  This model has the fleece material on entire chest and arms and thus more or less keeps the water out if it fits properly - snug. Even if dunked to rinse it out after diving, it dries quite quickly as long as it is hanging. Sharkskin has other warm water models that don't have the fleece in the arms and the arms tend to remain moist and don't seem to dry as quickly.
