I always seem to have a tough time with surface current on the return to the boat. My fin collection runs from those PowerPlanas, US Divers Blades, Appollo Bio Split fins, Aeris Velocity, Avanti Quatro, and now these SuperChannels; which are the best "fighting current" fins in my arsenal. I'm not a big diver, rather average 5'-7" height and 160lbs, these fins fit me fine. I will have to come up with a strap buckle replacement when it breaks on me. If you don't figure it how it supposed to ...

FIN-TASTIC !

OK Divers.. here is the scoop on these fins.. SIZING: I am a size 11 and bought the regulars and they fit with a little room to spare. I wore a 3mm bootie so if you want to go bigger sole and thicker mil you should be ok.I found them to be very comfortable.FUNCTIONALITY: I used these for the first time in Roatan and completed 17 dives with them. They propeled me thru the water very quickly. Did not find it necessary to exert extra effort. They have a quick release mechanism and the strap adju...

Mares design is inspired by marine mammals. Channel Thrust technology maximizes the channeling of water and moves a much greater amount of water compared to other fins of the same size. The result is greater thrusting power with the same amount of effort. Latest development in Channel Thrust is the Super-channel. The blade is designed with a large flexible central Super-channel propelling water-flow more efficiently down the fin blade instead of letting it spill over the sides for optimal performance and minimal diver effort.

The Avanti Super-channel is designed for the diver who wants the perfect blend of power and efficiency in one fin. The new blade design with a large central Super-channel and two traditional lateral channels provide excellent thrust while maintaining hi-efficiency and minimizing leg fatigue. The blade is constructed of Tecralene and Thermoplastic rubber for extended durability. The straps feature ABS Plus (Adjustable Binding System) for one step quick and easy opening or closing.

The Avanti Super-Channel uses Mares patented design ABS Plus Buckles. It only takes one quick movement to easily open or close these buckles, even when wearing thick neoprene gloves. The double button release prevents the buckles from accidently opening making them the most user-friendly system on the market. The foot pocket delivers maximum power and evenly distributes pressure over the foot to minimize fatigue. The foot pocket interior features internal ribbing that improves fit, eliminates foot suction and prevents foot pocket flexing, while transmitting more power to the blade. Fin comes in multiple colors and sizes, has an overall length between 23.2" to 24.8" (59 cm to 63 cm) depending on size. Fins weigh between 3.6 lbs. to 4.3 lbs. (1.62 kg to 1.94 kg).

Great fins!

By Oded C.

These are my first fins (after using rentals of all kinds for the course) and I absolutely love them. Very fast when you need the speed, with not too much effort - very efficient, very effective in all forms of kicking... A little on the heavy side out of the water but no big deal at all. Highly recommended.

A great fin!

By TRAVIS W.

from Natchez, MS, US

I have been using Jet fins for a long time and I was looking for a new fin that was not as heavy. This is it. These fins have helped me adjust my trim in the water and offer an effortless means of moving through the water. It's hard to tell they are on your feet. Give em a try.

Fantastic paddle fins!!!

Delivery was on time and without any problems.

Power and lightweight

By MARK S.

from Las Vegas, NV, US

Love these fins. I own these in the full foot version for tropical environs and wanted to try the open heel style for more cold weather dives. The fit and efficiency is pretty consistent. I was told these were a "soft" fin, but the design is a mixture of soft and hard composites and is much more efficient than a traditional soft fin. I can power by just about anyone without much effort. Five stars.

Wow, what a difference

By Mike g.

I just completed my first dive trip off the North Carolina coast with these fins. I'm relatively new to scuba and have been renting equipment. I read reviews on these fins and took the plunge. I couldn't be happier. I found these fins to fit well, improve my efficiency and speed, and they are easy to don and doff.

Love these fins, but not the new buckle

By Dan

I have 2 sets of these fins. I have them in size small for wetsuit diving and size regular for drysuit diving. I wear size 8 boots, but with a hard sole bottom for wetsuit diving and rock boots with my drysuit. I like these fins because I can do all the fin strokes well with them. Yeah, I prefer Apollo Biofins for flutter kicking, but the Apollo's are heavy in the water. These are light. If you have floaty feet...check out the Apollo's. These Mares Superchannel fins enable frog kicks and various turning kicks much better than the Apollo fins, so if you need to maneuver, better take these. They also travel lighter than Apollo's, so these were the fins I used on my last trip...to Kona. The only bad thing was those shore entries/exits on volcanic rock were not kind to these plastic fins!!! Lots of scratches on the bottom. I also switched out the regular straps for the Mares Bungee straps. They worked great! The regular buckle straps are okay if you have no gloves on, or thin gloves. Trying to work the buckles gets tough with about 3mm gloves. Thicker gloves makes it that much worse. The older style buckles Mares used to have are actually better than these new ones...as long as you have gloves on. The older style buckles were really tough on your finger nails tending to catch them and bend back if you weren't really careful. At least the new buckles aren't dangerous to your nails. I can really recommend the Bungee straps...much better than the heavy spring straps. The Bungee straps and these Superchannel fins make a great combination!

Real good open water fins

By Bandanna B.

Purchased these fins to use in open water diving and/or snorkeling as I was looking for a fin that would be "easier on the legs" than my heavy black rubber "tech" fins that I use in cave and cenote diving. These fins pretty well fit the bill. A somewhat stiffer paddle fin with channel's, that was designed to scoop the water and then channel it off behind you, which in turn gives you good forward propulsion. An efficient fin that does quite well in moderate and stronger currents; and that can also handle different kick styles if wanted. A much, much better fin when in current or under a load than most composite type or split fins. In my opinion, this fin is very comparable to a Mares Quattro Plus fin - but less expensive. Only drawback for me was the heel strap. While it has a unique design and does work well, I do prefer using a spring or bungee style strap. Just a personnel preference which does not reflect on the quality or performance of this fin. Another real good Mares product that I can easily recommend due to it's being a very well constructed, designed, and efficient fin. Hope this helps and safe diving!

Great fin!

By Kam_Ski

This is my second pair of these fins after I lost one fin from my first almost brand new set, while exiting the beach during strong surf. (Deerfield Beach south of the peer). I knew I had to immediately find a new replacement set of these fins. Love them, would buy them again, but this time in Large size, I find the XL size is a touch too big. Enjoy, Kam

If you don't figure it how it supposed to work before going into the ocean, you'll most likely break the buckle. You may need to use ankle weights to help submerge your fin so you don't just slap the surface water especially if you are just snorkeling. These are my favorite fins todate!

Power came in handy

By Buba

During a snorkling adventure in Kauai, the currents on the north shore during winter months can be wicked!!. These fins allowed me to propel through the water without loosing ground. Also I was chased by a sea snake and an eel. With the adrenline rushing; my fins must of been going supersonic, I escaped without injury. These fins have good flex, you can create lots of power with the right leg movement. Great product!!.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
PATRICIA F  Already have a this same fin. Purchasing a replacement. Fits well.
ALAN C  Greatest fins made. Good thrust, no tired legs or sore muscles. great for frog kicks. Good buckle release system.
Thomas V  Based on reviews and price
GEORGE H  Been diving since 1968 and have been using Mares Fins since the early 80's. Easy to kick, but they really move you along.
DAVID H  Scuba diving magazine rated this as a top fin. It is sharp looking and performs like a dream.
Shopper  I wear a 5mm mares trilastic boot. What size fins should i get?
Oded C  I assume it has more to do with your shoe size. but I wear a 5mm Triboot (Mares) size 7 (Thick, hard sole) and I'm using the Small size for the fins and it is perfectly fine.
Frank L  That depends on what size boot. Please refer to size chart on item page.
Jason O  My scuba boots are size 11 (6 mm XS scuba boots). Would the Regular or XL size fin be better? Thanks.
DAVID B  You will want Large. I am Size 11 as well and these are a good fit.
CHARLES E  My Oceanic Neosport boots size11 are the hard sole (reefwalkers) and are a bigger boot than normal boots. So I got the XL size and it has worked out for me. My regular size boots are size 10 and maybe it would be a better choice for the Regular size since with the size 10 boots they are very loose in the XL pocket and I would have the straps pulled all the way. I think you would be happier with the XL even with the non-hardsole boots.
CHARLES E  I use Oceanic boots size 11 and fit the XL size Super Channels. Regualr size would be way too small.
MELISSA D  My husband wears a size 11 and the XLs fit him perfectly.
Kasia W  Size XL should work best.
