Perfect small reel.

By Divedivadm

Using this reel with my SMB. Perfect choice for that use. Much better than a finger spool.

Manta Nano Reel

Prompt delivery, well packaged.

In the early days of cave diving, reels were not available to buy off the shelf. Divers used anything they could, including empty electrical wire spools. When exploring, divers would pay out the line and if they didn't empty the spool it would be left in the cave for the next dive. The Nano Reel is the ideal jump reel for cave divers looking for durability and quality. The spool is constructed out of UMHW and the frame is made from black anodized aluminum. Reel handle and spool are connected to the frame with stainless-steel hardware. For attachment to gear the reel comes with a double ended stainless-steel spring-loaded gate clip. The Nano reel comes with 50' (15.2 meters) of yellow #24 nylon line. The reel has a spool O.D. of 3" (7.6 cm) with an I.D. of 1" (2.5 cm). The #24 braided nylon line has a diameter .073" (1.86mm) and a tensile strength of 230 lbs. (105 kg). Reel is made in the USA.

Nice reel, small and lightweight

By Sanchiro

I use this reel with Surface Marker Buoy during the deco time at 5-10 meters. It is lightweight, small and functional, the yellow line is great.

It works, but...

By Chris

The reel works, but I don't care for the screw stop at all. I also found it to be a bit bulky compared to a regular finger reel given the arm that sticks out on the side. I bought it because I wanted to try out the handle...but tossed it in the spare gear box after the first dive.'s bulky for what it is (15.2m reel). really SHOULD be carrying a reel that has a length to reach your max depth. I'd give this reel a pass and just pick up a regular finger reel.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Alex M  Has the Manta Nano reel got a locking screw to lock the actual reel? Can't see one anywhere in the fotos!
Alex M  Thanks Matthew, this is getting rather confusing. So far I've got in 3 in favour of a locking screw and 2 against! Have you got one of these reels? I live in Australia, so am not really keen on taking a punt on a mail order from the states to see if the reel has a locking nut or not!
MATTHEW C  No this reel does not have a lock nut.
RICHARD M  Yes, mine has a machine screw that tightens on the spool acting as a lock. It's not very sophisticated, but it works. ~ Richard
Alex M  Thanks Richard, I can see that now, bit hard to follow in the foto. cheers, Alex
CARL J  Yes, it has a thumb screw on the line guide. It's white in the pictures, where mine arrived with a black screw.
Alex M  Thanks Carl, I can see it now, I thought the white bit was a line toggle to stop it winding right in to the reel! cheers, Alex
sanchiro s  Hi Alex and Paul, I bought one Manta Nano Reel last month and it has the locking screw. I don't know why but in the picture you can see in the end of the bow line a white locking screw (in my Manta Nano Reel this locking screw is black). It is lightweight and in a small size. Regards, Marcio Sanchiro.
Alex M  Thanks Marcio, I can see it now, that you've pointed it out. I want it for jump lines in cave diving and I need to be able to lock it off! Thanks again, much appreciated. Alex [ from Australia]
Paul B  No it doesn't...
Alex M  Thanks Paul. That doesn't sound like a really good setup. I've only experienced that set up on spools. I want one to use as a jump reel in cave diving, and I really need to be able to lock it off. Anyway thanks again for your reply. Alex
