Almost perfect, but nothing better!

By divemastergirl

First of all, its snug, but go by the size category when ordering not the #. I'm a size 14-16 in the chest and I ordered the XL(18) and it fits snug. It is comfortable and it loosens up with use. The first time I put it on it was tight but it stretches. Also it gives more when it is wet. The tightness around the armpits gets better with use. I dive for work (I'm a marine scientist) and I wear this at least once a week. It is very durable. Right now I'm working on a shallow reef and I scrape m...

Lavacore Women’s Long-sleeve Shirt

By Kim

I love this shirt, very warm and neutrally bouyant. I can wear this layered or as a stand-alone. The only con I have found so far is the slow dry time, but that is not a big deal.

Lavacore is a technically advanced fabric, constructed and engineered exclusively for water sports requiring the ultimate in thermal control and superior comfort. Thermal and neutral buoyancy properties create the ideal garment - under a neoprene wetsuit for added insulation and warmth or as a stand-alone exposure protection garment. The unique design of Lavacore materials eliminates constriction and allows for extreme movement and flexibility while regulating your core warmth.

Lavacore shirts are made with an exclusive Polytherm Tri-Laminate. Ideal for use as a primary exposure suit in warmer waters or as a supplemental undergarment in colder waters. Windproof and breathable providing anti-wind chill properties while also drawing moisture away from the body on the surface, ensuring warmth in cold conditions. For the ultimate in warmth Lavacore's Merino Laminate lined garments are super soft yet durable. Moisture wicking and anti-bacterial, the Merino fleece inner minimizes odor and keeps you warm above and below the surface.

Shirt is DWR: Durable Water Repellant has flat seam construction throughout for stretch and comfort. Lavacore is neutrally buoyant so you won't need to add weight to your weight system compromising your weight comfort zone. Full gusset incorporated into the underarms offer exceptional arm movement and stretch and all seams are overlapped during flat-lock sewing to ensure maximum water integrity and strength. Lavacore provides SPF 50+ sun protection and is designed and developed with your guarantee of quality. Women's long sleeve shirt has thumb loops, waist drawstring closure with barrel lock to prevent suit ride up when layering under exposure suit and is hypoallergenic. Shirt is available in multiple sizes.

Could be great if better fit/durability

Bought in advance of trip to Indonesia. Due to sizing issue used return policy 3 times to get best fit. Size S fit everywhere but chest. Size M still had restricted motion. Size M/L fit through body, but big gap at neck and shirt was down to mid thigh. Seems to be cut for a more boyish figure. I have an hourglass figure. Despite the fit issues, I bought the item and used it on almost 60 dives over 3 weeks in Raja Ampat, Lembeh and Bali. LeisurePro was great about getting new item to me befor...

I dive for work (I'm a marine scientist) and I wear this at least once a week. It is very durable. Right now I'm working on a shallow reef and I scrape my belly against the corals all the time. You can see some marks on the shirt, but the integrity is not compromised at all. Its awesome stuff for windy days. I recommend the hooded version or the hooded vest over or under the shirt. The hood tends not to stay tucked in. I wear this piece alone in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. I find it to be equivalent to a 3mm wetsuit. You can layer it under a wetsuit as well. I recommended it to everyone on our crew and we all use it and love it.

It's a miracle

By Deb

I'm NOT a cold water diver so I wanted something to keep me warm in the Cozumel Caribbean in December. This (along with the socks and hood) were perfect. It was fabulous under my thin wetsuit, so I stayed warmer without having to bulk up in a heavier wetsuit, and I truly had to add ZERO additional weight. This is wonderfully neutral. My only negative (but not enough to keep me from recommending) is that it does take a while to dry. But I found if I first dried the nice, soft inside, it was easier to put back on and the damp exterior didn't affect its overall warmth. It is also supposedly cut for a woman's body, but there weren't any darts or shaping to accommodate breasts. Again, not bad, but it would be nice if it had fit a little better. just wish I had purchased the full suit because then my legs would have been as nice as warm as the rest of my body.

Awwwwesome!

By cg

Bought this to wear in Cozumel over Christmas and I'm totally sold on the entire line now. It adds warmth without bulking you up like the Michelin tire man. The top is a bit narrow thru the shoulders but once you get it on, it's really comfortable. No change at all to my weighting!

Very nice shirt - ran very small - sadly, had to return.

I love this shirt! It adds just the right extra layer of warmth & comfort for my second dive of the day.

Runs small

By scubahoney

I bought this originally by using the size chart and measurements. I ordered the size it said I would wear with my measurements in the middle of the size measurements according to the chart. It was WAY too small. So, I ordered the next size bigger, still too small! So, I ordered the next size bigger and finally got a good fit. I got no hassles for the returns, but it really is a pity I had to pay return postage twice to get a correct fit. Most of my clothes I wear are a size 8, but I had to finally get a size 14 for this to fit! Be aware the arm holes are a bit snug, too, even on the one that fit. Otherwise, it is a good item, and I expect it will help keep me warm on my dives!

SNUG

By Dobe M.

I wear a 14/16 in tops. I read this shirt fit snug so purchased an 18. I am not claustrophobic but felt so in this top. It is beautiful material, soft to the touch and undoubtedly warm but I felt I couldn't move. I use for warm water diving. I sent it back and purchased my third HyperFlex shirt. Leisure Pro's return procedure was fast and simple. Thank you.

Good for added warmth

By TD

I used this product as an added layer under my wetsuit for warmth while scuba diving and it did make a noticeable difference in keeping me warm. I have another similar shirt of just neoprene that doesn't measure up to this one. The inner fleece feels warm even when it is wet, so you can do multiple dives in a day without waiting for it to dry. It is a little difficult to put on at first until you figure out how to do it. It does feel very snug, but once in the water you don't notice it much. Follow the sizing charts provided, if it is loose it won't keep you warm.

Lavacore - not true to size

By murphy

Not true to size. According to size chart, this should have fit great but the arms were very narrow, especially at the wrists. The chest area was also very narrow Once on it was nearly impossible to remove

Sizes run very small

By scubahoney

I had to send this back twice to keep getting a bigger size until one fit. The original one I bought after checking the size chart and I was within the measurement for the first size. When it arrived it was so small I couldn't even get it on. I ordered the next size, not knowing how much bigger it would be. When it came, I could get it on but it was so tight, there's no way I could dive in it, so, I sent it back once again for the next size bigger. One good thing is that each time I sent it back they were fast at sending the next size up. Make sure you order the size that is bigger than your measurements.

LeisurePro was great about getting new item to me before trip. H2O temps in Indo. mid to low 80's. Easy to put on shirt when dry, but much harder when wet. Did not dry between dives, but not too bad. VERY easy to take off wet or dry. After 1st use I noticed snagging due to velcro on BC and rough benches on boat. It snagged on everything. I don't care if it looks new or used, but durability of outer skin is poor. In water, warmth about same as 2-3ml suit (might have been better if no gap at neck. Best news, reduced lead from 6 to 4lbs. People on boat were intrigued by suit and one other diver had same. We both had about the same experience with it. Hopefully the company will make some improvements in fit, sizing and durability. I dive a lot so I am sure this suit shirt and other Lavacore products I purchased will wear out before I do. Better to wear them under a skin to protect fabric. I will recommend this product solely for the buoyancy and warmth characteristics.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
Erin O  I'm trying to help my 3/2 wetsuit for diving in cooler waters, high 70s, intend it for under the suit.
LESLIE M  alternative to the full suit. didn't work.
MARIA D  I bought this looking for an added layer of warmth under my 3 mm wetsuit. It is a bit expensive, but it was worth the money.
Shopper  My measurements fall in to size 10 but weight falls into size 12. Height is 5'5'' but long torso. What size should I get?
LESLIE M  It is great for swimming, by the way.
LESLIE M  I am a size 4-6, so I went for the smaller size - that said, I am short-waisted, so keep that in mind ... I found that the neck was very tight and felt constricting, so perhaps the larger size would cure that little problem?
SCOTT B  Probably want to go larger. My wife returned her LavaCore because it was too small. There is not a lot of stretch to the material and the arms and chest are not made for a top-heavy woman. That does not answer your question directly but I hope it helps. For me, the shirt is nice for warm water but shows wear after only 6 dives.
EMILY S  My Lavacore shirt is a XS2. I'm 95-100 lbs, 4' 11", bust 32, hips 34, waist 25. And I tried it on but it's pretty snug. I even had a little trouble taking it off myself and I was dry. I haven't actually worn it diving yet so I can't tell you how it feels.
CHRISTINE C  You want it tight or else water will get in so you may want to consider the 10.
MARIA D  Not completely certain, but I would go with measurements. This is supposed to be snug, otherwise it doesn't keep you warm. Following measurements should give you a better fit. Weight can vary for numerous reasons; water retention, more muscle mass than the average female, etc.
RENEA P  I would say to go for the size 12.
cindy l  would this work for swimming? are the shoulders flexible enough? thanks
Monica s  Yes it is flexible so should be fine for swimming
