Great gun to learn on

Great speargun lots of tasty perch

By Solman

I have had much fun with the speargun

Don't let the price tag fool you, the Carbine series delivers more bang for your buck than anything in its class. Just like its bigger brother, Carbines are constructed of 1" (25mm) 6063 aerospace grade aluminum and feature high-strength stainless shafts and triggers. The D6 is powered by one 1/2" x 14" (13mm x 356mm) Hi-Mod band with 302 stainless steel wishbones. JBL's unique latex formulation and dip manufacturing process delivers radical modulus strength. The power curve increases as bands are stretched for optimum performance. Special anti-oxidants help protect against harmful U.V. rays, prolonging sling life. Gun has a low-profile, pistol grip handle that makes for easy target acquisition. So, if you want a spear gun that will bring home plenty of fish without breaking the bank, the Carbine fits the bill.

The Mini comes equipped with the JBL724SB 24" (61 cm) Stainless 17-4 spring steel shaft with a 9/32" (7.11mm) diameter, and is hand-tuned for alignment then heat-treated for maximum hardness to reduce flex and provide optimum energy transfer. Gun is equipped with a durable molded corrosion free ABS handle & muzzle, an overall length of 23" (58.4 cm) and has a 9' (2.74 meters) range. The JBLD-6 Mini Carbine has a shaft with 6mm threaded point and wing spear tip.

Buy a Better Gun

I use this gun for fish and lobsters in and around reefs in the Caribbean. This is not a bad starter gun, but I have used it 3 times and I'm ready for a better one. The default range is just insufficient. I replaced the cord with a longer one for more range, but I lose many fish because the spear does not completely penetrate, or the fish simply spin off the line. Having used my friend's Beuchat, I now find this gun to be terrible by comparison. You'll have a lot more fun, and bag a lot m...

Excellent beginner gun

By Neanderlytle

The ripcord this gun comes with is very short, it also does not come with a spear tip. I just went to the dive shop down the street and got a longer cord and a good tip. Otherwise though this is a great gun if you're going after small to medium sized fish. I got a 6lb sheepshead last weekend no problem.

good things do come in small packages

By bridgediver G.

This is my fourth JBL mini. I use it just about every weekend. It is great for small to medium fish--2 to 20 lbs. Easy to maneuver in and around pilings and rocks. Had bigger, sold'em. You want be disappointed.

Great Close to Shore Gun

By Darrell

Everyone seems to have a problem with the short range. Easy way to fix that....buy a longer shock chord. Ever since i added a new one this gun has been great. I made the new line about 8 ft or so and it seems to work great.

Good Freshwater Pistol

By Klondike K.

The most important thing a new owner will encounter as a challenge will be cocking the gun by stretching the band to the shaft notch. Due to this gun's lack of extension butt pad its very tough to get the band loaded. I've made a PVC sleeve/pad that fits over the handle to give me more leverage for easier loading. On the positive side, I use this for spearing Northern Pike in Alaska's lakes where the quarry is often hunkering in thick weed beds and shooting distance is often point blank so the limited range is not an issue in this application. The shock cord does need to be lengthened for longer shots and to give the fish room to fight. Works great in close quarters and light enough to use all day without tiring.

good beginner gun

By Freediver

I use this gun in lake Michigan for freshwater fish and it has been a huge step up from a Hawaiian sling but does have a limited range my friend has the next largest gun and i would recommend that more than this one. but for a free diver like me shooting fish no larger than 20 pounds it works pretty good. I also recommend lengthening the shock line it will be more effective that way.

Great little gun

By Hooked f.

My son has shot many fish with this little gun. Including a 28 inch Ling Cod.

Great for first spear gun!

By DAWN R.

This is a great 'first' spear gun for the young beginner whether snorkeling or scuba diving. It holds up well, is sharp looking, and fun to use. The range and penetration abilities are low which makes for a safer experience. The spear definitely goes through smaller fish at closer ranges making it a good training spear gun.

Good little gun

By Teh W.

Great little single band gun. Works perfectly for merky water or when you want to get fish out from under reef or in the rocks. I carry it on my BC and use my 52" Sea Hornet most of the time. Also great for beginnners just getting into the sport and not wanting to spend alot on a large high dollar gun. no need to buy any accories with it, comes perfect from the factory

Don't judge a book by its cover

By Jay Y.

it is a very good gun but it lack range. it has power and is designed for fishes that hide in rocks.

nice backup gun

By N/A

this speargun is great for small fish.

JBL D6

By cave d.

I like the size of the gun. The band is hard to pull back with no support to put the gun against. The trigger has bad response it pauses befor it shoots causing me to miss some easy shots.

Shopper  where can i get spare for my JBL custom?
Bill P  For which speargun? see here a list of all JBL Spears & Shafts https://www.leisurepro.com/l/Spearfish-Freedive/JBL~Shafts-Spearpoints
Shopper  I think Marilyn is pointing your shopper in the wrong direction regarding replacement tips for a D6.You do not need a 5/16 female/6mm male adaptor unless they have changed thread size recently.Your brief description says the D6 gun can be used with 1 or 2 bands. Can you explain that one to me?What parts are required to do this?I would be interested in converting to 2 bands.
KEVIN F  This shaft has a 6mm thread. You can use a 5/16" tip if you get the JBL810 adapter. That is femal2 6mm to male 5/16". This is designed to be used with one band. https://www.leisurepro.com/p-jbl810/jbl-6mm-female-to-5-16mm-male-ss-spear-point-adapter?searchinfo=jbl+810&searchredirect=true
bob b  I need a replacement shaft for the D-6 Mini Carbine. The shaft listed on the D-6 Mini carbine item is: Shaft JBL724S. when typed in the search engine it says it is compatable with the Explorer speargun. What is the PN for the D-6 Mini carbine shaft if not whats listed?
Frank L  JBL724SB is the correct one.
RICHARD S  Hey there, the pn 724sb should fit your mini carbine just fine.
