Great thing to have

By Nermin

I just started diving, but this product is great for a small to mid size fish, the range is not great but you really dont need that big of a range if you going for mid size fish. It is easy to use and very compact.

Don't let the price tag fool you, the Carbine series delivers more bang for your buck than anything in its class. Just like its bigger brother, Carbines are constructed of 1" (25mm) 6063 aerospace grade aluminum and feature high-strength stainless shafts and triggers. The D5 is powered by one 1/2" x 8" (13mm x 203mm) Hi-Mod band with 302 stainless steel wishbones. JBL's unique latex formulation and dip manufacturing process delivers radical modulus strength. The power curve increases as bands are stretched for optimum performance. Special anti-oxidants help protect against harmful U.V. rays, prolonging sling life. Gun has a low-profile, pistol grip handle that makes for easy target acquisition. So, if you want a spear gun that will bring home plenty of fish without breaking the bank, the Carbine fits the bill.

The Mini comes equipped with the JBL716SB 16" (40 cm) Stainless 17-4 spring steel shaft with a 9/32" (7.11mm) diameter, and is hand-tuned for alignment then heat-treated for maximum hardness to reduce flex and provide optimum energy transfer. Gun is equipped with a durable molded corrosion free ABS Handle & Muzzle, an overall length of 16" (40.6 cm) and has a 6' (1.83 meters) range. The JBLD-5 Mini has a shaft with 6mm threaded point and wing spear tip.

No bang for the buck!

I bought the D5 Mini spear gun and could not get the band pulled back. Friends of mine that spear fish a lot had trouble pulling the band. I found that the gun was a waste of money. You should buy a longer gun.

Nice compact speargun

By Michael H.

from VA Beach, VA, US

I have had this gun for two years now . I keep the gun in my flipper bag with mask and snorkel it all fits in in one compact package for when you never know when you will need one. No it's not meant for big fish obviously I have other spearguns for that . but I have shot my limit of spadefish multiple times with it and a few sheep's and rudderfish . the only complaints I have is the tip is dull out of the box you will need to take a file to it and the cord just dangles in the water but other than that decent gun.

Quite difficult to shoot takes time getting used to

Good for what it is

By blueocean

I got lots of fish with this little spear gun. I had this spear gun for several years for now. I started fishing with this gun. I dive among large kelps and rocks. So, smaller the better for me. The tip that comes with the gun will not penetrate a fish all the way and will not hold your fish. Since I got three prong tip(six inch), I got lots of fish including over 20 inch and over 15 pound Cabezon.

perfect size for areas with many rocks and kelp

great for small fish!!

By sick n.

great for small fish, but anything over 5 lbs is prob to big for the gun. but great for getting those fish that r in cracks or caves.

small [*]

By john f.

this is small light and good for travel. not to forget this guns power it might be small but deadly!

Get something else

By Marc

True to the saying you get what you pay for this speargun is a low end model. The first problem is that there is no place to coil up the line like on most spearguns so it just kind of floats around in the water. The line comes with no shock cord. The band is very difficult to pull back because of there not being any butt plate to hold against your leg. There are better made mini spearguns out there, save your money and purchase one of them.

difficult

By Mark

Very difficult to load, i would have to push against something or use y shoulder to pull it back into. Would not recommend the mini but go one size larger.

Useless novelty

By joe s.

its too loud and slow fish move before the spear has a chance to hit. If by some miracle it does hit it doesnt penetrate. I've gone back to my pole spear for small game. it looks cool on my wall Ill give it that

Frank L  Not recommended to change the sling on a gun, it would change the performance. And, there isn't one that is lower tension available.
