As others noted this is a great gun and very capable of taking large, powerful fish. I use the shaft and attached flopper as is but you can screw on any 8mm thread tip. I found that doing so is unneccessary and causes the spear to drop much faster, changing the natural point of aim. I've been using the gun since right after its release and it is a winner, harvesting several fish over 40 lbs. Some have noted that its hard to get the shaft seated in the trigger mechanism. Looking for a spear gun that's fast, quiet, accurate the Elite. Woody feature JBL's revolutionary M-8, 3-piece trigger mechanism. Its compound leverage design and laser cut 1/4" (6.35mm) stainless components make it the strongest mechanism in the world and provide shooters with smooth, effortless trigger pull. The handle is well, amazing. The ergonomic 45° design and hex pattern increases grip control and accuracy. Once you hold it you will never want to shoot another gun. Shoot Tahitian-style or remove the flopper and screw on a break-away tip for large game fish. Gun deliver precision accuracy in all conditions and feature the legendary JBL performance and durability that has made them a world leader for over 40 years.

Point, shoot, eat. It's about that easy if you're shooting a JBL Woody spear gun. Each solid African mahogany blank is hand selected for straightness and grain pattern. The result: a spear gun that works just as well shooting fish as it does looking good. Just pick one up and you'll know what JBL's talking about. Comfortable in blue water or right off the beach, these guns are the best shooting partner you'll ever dive with. The all new M8 Trigger is perfection. New internal components reduce loading force by 50%. Like its predecessor, the M7, it can handle inhuman levels of pressure 2400 lbs. (1089 kg), yet still deliver a butter-smooth pull less than 8 lbs. (3.63 kg). The secret is its proprietary three-piece trigger mechanism.

The JBL Woody Elite Magnum Spear Gun has a gun overall length of 56" (142.25 cm), comes with a corrosion resistant 17-4 (spring) stainless shaft that is hand-tuned for alignment then heat-treated for maximum hardness to reduce flex and provide optimum energy transfer. The shaft for the Woody Elite Magnum Spear Gun, measures 56" x 5/16" (142.25 cm x 8 mm) and has a 5/16" threaded point and flopper wing with shark fins sling tabs. Spear shaft has a 2-sling capacity.

The Gun is equipped with the JBL515E Shock Line. Sometimes we miss or we shoot a large fish and the recoil can pull the gun out of your grip, which ever, the shock line will keep you in control. Gun has an integrated open muzzle, with full shaft rail contact for maximum accuracy and comes with two Nitro 26" x 5/8" (660 mm x 16mm) slings. JBL's unique latex formulation and dip manufacturing process delivers radical modulus strength. The power curve increases as bands are stretched for optimum performance. Special anti-oxidants help protect against harmful U.V. rays, prolonging sling life. Wishbones are Spectra cord that provide superior strength and durability. The gun's reach of 28' (8.5 meters) and is positively buoyant.

I noticed mine was stiff initially but broke in fairly fast. Pressing down on the shaft firmly gets the job done. After diving be sure to rinse with soapy water or "Salt Away" and lightly oil the trigger mechanism.

Very nice gun.

Nice gun, finish is great, trigger awesome. The spear shaft is strange since the tip is threaded and pointy. Can be used as is or you can add a different tip. However there is a permanent flopper on the shaft and you would want to remove it if you use a different tip. But I am not an expert. The instruction are minimal. There is not much to know but I wished there was a better manual that at least describe how to tie up the string. Had to go online to found out. I did a small modification at the plastic nozzle, I cut some small notch so the string Heald better in place. Also it would have been great if the manual listed the specification of the gun. Be aware that the rubber provided are tight, really tight. I could not load the gun at first. You will need glove or if you are not very strong with really long arm (this gun is long, 56") you may want to get an extra set of rubber band either longer or weaker. I put 4 star because of this. In the field, I only tried once. Got a fish on first shot in merky water. It is a powerful gun. Easy to maneuver. The gun has a positive buoyency but when the spear is mounted it does sink. The spear is well made and quite hard. I shot a rock but the tip was not damaged. Bottom line I would recommend this gun. The aesthetic are beautiful. I do like wood. The trigger is nice and not complicated to operate. Handle is ergonomic and fit well, at least for me. The gun is ready to go out of he box. Come with shock line and a nice rubber piece that avoid the metal connector to bang on he wood, reducing noize. The design on the plastic nose could see some minor improvement and manual could be more complete but overall an excellent gun. Multiple reviews praise this gun. The price point I think is very well placed. You do get a lot for your money. But be aware that it is really really hard to load.

Great deal

The woody magnum elite is really awesome , we'll worth the money , top quality gun . Only problem was this gun gun comes with 5/8 × 26 inch bands , way too much for me , the jbl mid handle gun with the same shaft 56 inches has 5/8×28 inch bands . I put the 5/8×28 bands on the woody and love it . I also have the jbl 450 XHD , great gun with zero problems , don't know why jbl got the bands different , put from my research that's the only case

Beautiful, Durable and Reliable

By Cory H.

This speargun offers plenty of power and you do sense a great deal of quality in the craftsmanship and also in the trigger mechanism. Like other JBL spearguns my friends and I own, we are very happy with our JBL spearguns and will continue to purchase them from Leisurepro! The gun definitely packs power and range. I had trouble equalizing during one of the later dives of the day so I was stuck at the surface... Saw a grouper sitting on the bottom about 25 feet below me and I stoned him on the spot. Never knew what hit him! I only have two complaints about this gun. It can be a real pain to reload because it is hard to get such a large spear shaft to rest on the gun at the end of the muzzle while you are attempting to lock the end of the shaft into the trigger mechanism. This can be real troublesome and time consuming when you have ideal fish swimming around you and only so much oxygen in your tank. Plan on doing some minor modifications to the end of the muzzle to solve this! Great buy.

JBL elite

Great over all gun. JBL turned there company around. They added M-7/M-8 trigger mechs to all of there guns as well as new handle. This is a great cheap WSB/YT gun.

Q&A

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

sunni b  Does this gun have an open or a closed muzzle?
G W  Open Muzzle on this one. JBL makes two woodies in this length. This is the 6w46E, with the E meaning Elite. It has two bands with the spectra wishbone. People are confusing this with the 6W46 (no E) which has three bands with stainless wishbone and enclosed muzzle.
Fabien H  If I understand the definition of open muzzle, this particular gun is open muzzle since you need to use the shock line to secure the shaft (bought the gun 12-2017). And the shaft has fins.
KEVIN P  Closed muzzle , great open water gun but it is a little big inside wrecks
JOSEPH B  The muzzle is closed.
ANDREW J  The jbl woody is a closed muzzle speargun.
ANDREW Y  Closed muzzle. None enclosed track
Shopper  How long is this gun end to end?
LeisurePro S  This gun has an overall length of 65".
