BEST MASK FOR EQUALIZING PROBLEMS PERIOD

By JANGLE

I have always had problem equalizing, with this mask I have absolutely zero problems equalizing! I have been to an ENT, had a CT scan, everything, this mask is the ONLY reason I can dive. Forget the vented ear plugs, this mask works hands down!!! The fit is great, once you get used to having the ears "cupped" it takes ZERO effort to equalize. I will buy another as a back-up in the future, this is the best piece of gear I own hands down, THANK YOU PRO EAR!!! This is a must buy!!!!

Great product!

By sullijim

I had to give up diving several years ago because I had tubes put in my ears. I was thrilled to find out about this mask and the chance to dive again. I've read hundreds of reviews on this mask and 90% of reviews are very positive. I've tested it out in the bathtub (yes, I filled up the tub so I could lay back with my head submerged, lol) and it worked excellent, no water at all in the ear cups. I'll be testing it out in a pool soon, then fresh water diving no deeper than 25', if that goe...

For many divers, from beginners to the most experienced professionals, ear problems affect their ability to enjoy their sport more than any other health issue. More dives are aborted, and more diving holidays shortened due to ear problems than any other cause.

Water and pressure affect every diver's ears. Infection and discomfort to the ear are the most common health risks involved in diving, often causing permanent damage. Many divers find they must interrupt expensive, long awaited diving holidays because of ear problems. The financial loss and unfulfilled expectations are enormous.

Pro Ear is the world's only practical ear protector for divers, designed and developed by diving physicians, engineers and instructors at Safe Dive LTD to enhance diver safety and comfort. The Pro Ear unique design and performance, allows divers to keep their ears dry, thereby: Improving diver comfort and preventing painful ear problems, improving hearing and sense of direction underwater and simplifying equalization of pressures while diving.

The mask skirt is made from the best grade of crystal clear, hypoallergenic silicone. This double feathered edge skirt is soft and automatically conforms to a wide range of facial profiles. The wide split style strap is mounted on swivel buckles. The silicone strap with its large contact surface secures the mask to the wearer. The silicone rubber double feathered edge skirt and wide split style mask strap combine to create a perfect seal on the face. The soft silicone ear covers forms a water tight seal between the ear drum and the cover. The pressure buffer created has the same pressure as your nasal cavity mask when air exhaled through the nose is introduced through the equalization tubes. Therefore, the pressure experienced in your middle ear and outer ear is the same and the squeeze" from the ambient environment will be significantly reduced. Other benefits by keeping the ears sealed include reduced chance of an ear infection from water, improved sense of direction and warmth retention.

Dual tempered glass window design with large nose pocket for ease of equalization and low profile, low volume design, allows a wide field of vision. Equalization Tubes: With one-way valve placed inside each tube, air is-allowed-to-travel from the mask to the ear covers for pressure equalization and water clearance while stopping water from flooding the mask in the unlikely event of flooded ear covers. Mask is available with a clear silicone skirt with a black of blue frame. Mask comes with a user manual.

Worry free equalization

By Kevin B.

from Denver, CO, US

I think that the ear cups really helped with equalization, allowing me to dive without worries. A tip from another user about gently exhaling through the nose to keep the mask nuetral was right on point.

Worked GREAT!!!!

By ERNIE P.

Ears were dry each dive and no issues with the mask. One wish is that it came with panoramic windows , but that’s just my preference.

IST PRO EAR

By Tippy

from west des moines, IA, US

I have two IST PRO EAR masks. Most comfortable mask I have tried. The other mask I own is a Tusa, nice mask, nice company tried every Tusa mask I could find but all were uncomfortable around the nose area. Every thing else I own is Tusa. Like the extra protection around the ears and seems to help a little with descent !!!!

Seals very well

By Karina G.

I purchased this item because I've been afraid to go underwater since I was a little girl. I injured my eardrum and would get painful ear infections. I developed a sort of phobia over the years. I went on vacation and decided to try these out. I'm happy to say they work wonderfully. They seal very tightly. Highly recommended. I was able to swim underwater for the first time :)

A Healing Mask ;)

By AQUATIC I.

from Rostov-on-Don, Rostov district, RU

I always had had troubles with my ears. Every liveaboard, on the third or fourth day of diving I found my ears severely inflamed. I've tried all possible ways to solve the problem: I covered my ears during surface intervals, I thoroughly cleansed them after each dive, I even refused to eat any milk containing food onboard—nothing helped. The doctor said the reason is my ear channels are too narrow, and I can do nothing about it. So, I've decided that my every liveaboard ache is a little sacrifice to Neptune. But once I've met a guy who wore this Pro Ear mask. He had a spare one, and he kindly proposed me to give it a try. It was a sheer miracle! No ache at all! The first thing I did when I came back from that trip—I ordered one, despite of its price. And I never regretted! No more ear ache on a long series of dives. Exceptional design. The only trouble with this mask is connected with a hood. Regular ones don't fit the Pro Ear. You have to either open your ears by cutting two big round holes in the existing hood, or buy a new one, designed specifically to fit this mask. It has a two-layer design, and is quite tricky to wear, I guess. As I'm used to dive in warm waters only, this issue doesn't trouble me at all, but it could be a problem to sort it out if you dive in a cold waters, wearing a dry suit with a dry hood.

Ears stay dry

Much easier for me to equalize when they don't have water in them.

IST Pro Mask with Ear Covers

By Brian M.

I was very fortunate to hear about these! I had ear issues during a PADI Adv. Open Water certification. I was leaving for a 7 day dive trip already booked to the Maldives. This mask was outstanding! VERY comfortable fit with great sealing properties. Excellent optics. I would highly recommend if you have any ear issues !

happy swimmer

I bought this mask with ear covers for my husband, who has perforated ear drums and has not been able to go under water for 45 years. He was like an excited 5 year old going under the water swimming for the first time. Cant wait for him to go snorkeling with me , and experience under water ocean life!!!

AMAZING MASK

By Evan

I dive roughly 3 or 4 days a week for my job. After a few years of doing this I would get repeated ear infections and have trouble clearing. I have used this mask for just shy of two years now and have never had trouble clearing or any ear infections since. I have tried a multitude of other products in the industry and this one works. The first few times it will feel odd and might leak but I found that was more do to user error than product defect. The more you wear it the more you will understand the best spot to seat the ear cups for a no leak seal. I now dive every day with no leaks. The mask itself sits very well on my face and I perfer over 2 other high end masks I own. Amazing mask- going two years strong with great results. I could not do my job without this mask.

Great mask

By Mag3219

Bought this mask for my fiancé to use while certifying for open water diving. She has had multiple ear drum surgeries as a child and was very nervous about being able to equalize. After being cleared by a ENT that everything was fine with her ears, we decided to purchase this mask. The first time out didn't go well because we didn't read the instruction on proper usage (I'm an idiot). This mask allows for you to have equal atmosphere of pressure around your ears as you do in your lungs because the of the one way valves. The next dive was better because of proper usage. The main thing with mask is to breath slight out of your nose while descending. This made equalization a breeze. We are very happy with our purchase and my fiancé is comfortable while diving. Thanks.

works as described; no leaks

By Nick

I have two eardrum skin grafts which don't take wet ears well and for years used the Scuba Queen hood with two air tubes going to the regulator. The pro ear mask replaces this complicated hood perfectly, and furthermore, can also be used for free diving which I can do again.

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
S C  Picked this due to a missing ear drum. Will see if this helps.
Robert V  I have ear problems
Guy J  I have one and this is a spare. Great devise for guard against ear infections due principally to warm water diving. Also assist in equalizing.
Nancy M  I have always had to start clearing my ears from the surface. It is not easier with age, and my last dive trip, I had to skip the final dives due to ear drum trauma. These were recommended to me, and I will be trying them in Cozumel in another week. I’ll let you know how they work.
DAN S  Had a ruptured ear drum and needed to dive.
Kim B  My husband has only one ear drum and until he found this mask he couldn't snorkel without the pressure becoming too much for his working ear. This mask has been amazing for him. The first one we bought has lasted more than 10 years and it is finally time to get a new one.
Doratia J. W  works good.
LYN H  Like others have written, I have had ear problems on decent while scuba diving. I have not used them in the ocean yet but practice with them in my pool is working out well so far.
ED K  Ear infections without it.
WILLIAM M  Constant problems clearing and ear infections. Solved both problems.
WILLIAM D  I have suffered two baurotramas and have considerable trouble clearing. I can only clear by swallowing..no other method. This mask has been a godsend. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who has problems equaling. A simple puff thru the nose and your are cleared!!
GARY M  Good idea but cumbersom to use.
Jane H  Somehow my lens were scratched. Are they replaceable or do I have to purchase another mask?
Mario C  Thank you for your question. We don't sell replacement lenses for the pro- ear or are aware of it having a replaceable lens option. however before telling you no, i prefer referring you to the manufacturer in case they have a better solution than buying a new one... http://www.istsports.com/ 909-622-9600
Elena O  I only feel and hear air in th e right side. My left ear is the one with a pin size hole. Is the air only supposed to come out on the right ear? Or both?
CHRISANDA B  You need to pose this question to an Ear Nose and Throat physician. As an RN and an avid scuba diver with a thrice-punctured ear drum, I consider my own ENT one of my dive buddies.
DAVID B  If you have a permanent perforated ear drum (like I do) then I can explain. Your left ear is essentially "open". Air will pass freely from the mask (ear cup) into your inner ear for equalization. Similarly, air will flow through your eustachian tube (through your jaw) as normally to the inner ear. What this means is that you will have absolutely no problem equalizing the left ear as you have two pathways for air equalization (external mask and eustachian tube). Now, the right side will be your challenge. For me it's my left but I have a hard time equalizing my left ear. This is because the path of least resistance is through my right "open" circuit so air easily passes through my right ear. On my left, I have a healthy intact ear drum and therefore I need to equalize like anyone else by pushing air through my eustachian tube by swallowing, nose-pinching, etc. to get air to the inner ear to balance the "squeeze". Early on, while using the ProEar I was too rushed in my descents and often had barotrauma in the healthy left ear as a result. Now, I take EXTRA time on my descents, as the left side needs more time. I also use a nasal decongestant spray to help open up the eustachian tube on the left side. Trying a nose pinch before putting my head in the water also seems to help. I am not a medical doctor but I am a marine biologist with >1000 dives with this mask and I own many of them! In that time I have had 1 ear infection as a result of a flooded ear owing to a ripping current on one unlucky dive in Palau. Be patient and learn how the mask works with your body and you will not regret the purchase!
NICHOLAS B  There are two tubes going from the mask to each earpiece...so each ear gets the same pressure of air as you dive
Elena O  What can I do to get air in Both sides? I dove a cenotes dive and a cave dive today. The hole I have has been there over 15 years. For the first time since So was se to dive
NICHOLAS B  I am cave diver myself in q.roo using this mask for 5 years. Works great with both ears getting air. Maybe one of the earcups tubes is blocked? Because I have perforations in both ears...as a backup... I also use a pair of VENTED SCUBA-diving earplugs with the mask ..and put baseline on the earcups edges for a better seal.
EDWARD C  Do you currently have a ruptured eardrum? If that is the case, you should not dive until it heals
