Happy, happy, happy

By LARRY L.

 -  Schenectady, NY, US

Background: I've been diving a Cressi XS2 and was happy with the way it breathed. I bought the Hollis 500SE for the side exhaust. When I first dove the 500SE it was a totally different experience. No bubbles - none - they all went to the side out of sight. But the most amazing thing was how SMOOTH the 500SE breathes. It's like there is no cracking pressure. You start to breathe in and air flows immediately. WOW - I now see what I was missing. Also with the exhaust extending to the side it ...

Good for photo, Excellent for fight with strong current!

By Ninja D.

I need clear vision for finding pelagic animal such as hammerhead sharks, this 2nd stage ig great way to avoiding air bubble disturbing front vision. Which mean also good idea for photo.

Old school, new tech, the new 500SE utilizes a servo controlled valve to provide precision airflow and unparalleled performance for both Air-and-Tri-Mix divers in a side exhaust configuration. To achieve this, Hollis Gear has perfected the original "lever-servo valve" they designed 35 years ago. The smallest, gentlest inhale starts the servo valve working as air starts to flow into the second stage it creates a vacuum behind the diaphragm, drawing it inwards and quickly opening the valve further. Air flow is increased by allowing it to flow through multiple valve ports rather than a single port.

This pneumatically balanced regulator has a large soft purge cover for easy clearing of the regulator, patented orthodontic mouthpiece for comfort and reduced jaw fatigue. Regulator is easy to disassemble without the use of tools and even underwater if necessary. Regulator can be configured for left-or-right positioning, no upside down. The obvious feature of the side exhaust configuration is that bubbles don't get in a diver's face when they exhale. Recreational divers and especially underwater photographers will appreciate that. Regulator is made from impact resistant Delrin plastics, rubber, stainless steel and chrome plated brass with silicone rubber components.

This product can only be shipped to U.S. addresses.

You start to breathe in and air flows immediately. WOW - I now see what I was missing. Also with the exhaust extending to the side it is completely balanced in my mouth - no tugging to the side because of hose weight - and the mouthpiece is wonderful. I actually forgot the reg was in my mouth. It was like breathing at the surface. I can't imagine using any other reg after using the Hollis 500SE. I'm spoiled.

Q&A

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
LARRY L  Wanted the side exhaust. It's an awsome reg.
Shopper  Can this Hollis 500se without hose use any standard regulator hose?
TRISTAN L  Yes, I am using it with a standard hose but I did add a swivel fitting later that took a bit of work to get it installed.
Daniel G  DO NOT BUY this regulator. The plastic guard for the purge button area basically disintegrated in my hands after i thad been sat not being used for awhile because within two months of using it, it starts freeflowing nonstop and no service in my area to fix it. Get a poseidon side exhaust instead.
MICHAEL K  Yes, but it has components that need to be transferred to the new hose. They act like a lock that keep the regulator from coming apart.
Benjamin F  I had replaced a Hollis 212 second stage with this 500se, so it was a Hollis house. The fittings on these hoses are an industry standard size and you will not have an issue with any standard regulator (low pressure) hose.
SHANNON S  It does. Nice compact regulator
Franklin N  Yes. It has a standard second stage fitting. I use a scubapro G250 most of the time. When I use the Hollis I simply swap them, leaving the hose attached to the first stage.
LARRY L  Yep. It has standard fittings. Just unscrew the old reg and screw on the Hollis.
MICHAEL C  Can I use this regulator with a cressi first stage and a normal low pressure hose?
LARRY L  I've been using the Hollis 500SE with a Cressi AC2 first stage for years and have had absolutely no problems.Depth to 131' and temp as low as 42°F. The AC2 is a great 1st stage and is very easy to set the intermediate pressure - no shims required. And it's inexpensive.
Joe S  You can use this second stage with any first stage. However, just like with any regulator, a factory specification is set on these and you have to be sure that the Intermediate Pressure is set properly on the other first stage. You can have a service technician do this work for you. We always recommend that on any regulator you use the paired kits. In this case it is the DC7 Inline first stage.
