Proven design works great!

By Shawn

I've used my Cressi pneumatic gun for 5 months now and have had no problems with it. I bought the SL model with the pressure select switch. Other reviews mentioned that the gun was impossible to load. Mine was too at first but I bled off some of the factory air pressure by pushing a ball point pen tip into the back of the accumulator. I then pumped it back up to a reasonable level. If you have the SL model, be aware that it has to be set on low pressure to load it. You will not be able to loa...

Used by freedivers with good success! Reliable and effective.

I have a cressi SL100 and I'm very pleased with it, I'm a freediver and have shot all the famous brands of spearguns out there. Have always enjoyed pneumatics for the compactness and efficient power delivery. All pneumatics can be loaded on high or low power. The models with 8mm shafts -5/16 can really hit hard but need higher pressures to shoot the same speed as the 7mm shaft versions (mares cyrano). If your buying a shorter version by all means by the type without a power regulator as they...

The SL range of pneumatic spear guns has been in production for many years, and they have won worldwide renowned for their excellence in reliability, precision, power and of being robust. Constantly updated over the years, the SL spear guns are ultra-light, easy to use, and fire quickly. The SL comes with an anatomical high grip handle that enabling the gun to be held in line with the arm effortlessly. The bright yellow handle allows you quick and easy identification of the gun even if it ends up on the sea-floor after shooting. A strong line attachment eyelet on the handle allows attachment of a lanyard and aids in shaft loading. The SL guns are fitted with a safety catch to prevent accidental firing and, when the trigger is pulled the line release automatically releases the shaft line.

The SL guns have a range reducer so you can either use full power or reduced the power for close-up fishing and shooting near rocks. When the power selector is switched to the reduced power mode, a non-return valve aids in gun loading. The SL spear guns come with an 8mm (0.31") threaded stainless steel tempered shaft. The shaft threads are 7mm and will fit the following Cressi spear tips: Mini Spear Head (see SKU: CSBMSH), Mach Spear Head (see SKU: CSBSHM) and any other 7mm threaded spear tips. The SL spear guns models come in three lengths: SL 55 which is 21.5 "(55cm) in length, SL 70 which is 27.5" (70cm) in length, and the SL 100 measuring 39" (100cm) in length. The guns have a 13mm (0.5") internal barrel. The legendary Cressi handle provides an angle between the barrel and handle and determines the winning ergonomics of Cressi pneumatic spear guns. The Cressi SL Spear Gun comes with a gun pump, shaft loader and owner's manual.

Questions about this item:

Bill C  Are these guns normally sold with the accessory air pump?
ROGELIO R  Yes they come with the air pump
Shopper  THis spaer gun come with the shaft ?
RAUL G C  Yes, as well as single barb tip, shock line, loader, carrying bag and instruction manual
SERGEY S  This speargun Cressi SL working like russian AKS.Tha best.Good price.
RICK H  YES!!
SHELLEY G  Yes, 1 shaft.
PASCAL G  Yes it does. It is thick and durable unlike the Mares that is smaller and tends to bend. Great gun!
MARTIN M  Mine did
IVAN A  yes
RICK G  My family have 3 Cressi SL guns. I haven't shot any of my band guns in 2 years. You can pump it up to get the power you want. Great guns for a good price. It does come with a shaft. I made a few changes. I do not like the tip that comes with it as it doesn't have the coller to hold the toggles down to get the tip back through the fish. I also put a 15' coil cord that attaches the gun to the spear. Way faster and works great in the Oregon coast.
JAMES B  It comes with a cadmium plated shaft. It's ok for a starter shaft, but If you're in salt water it will eventually rust. I've heard of the threaded end breaking off. Best to get spring stainless. I have both the Cressi and Mares in the same size. Prefer the Mares.
JAMES B  Yes.
MARK R  Comes with everything u need.... Great product.. I really like mine.....
CAMILO P  Yes. It is not he best quality shaft but it has lasted me 3 years. I only bent it once while fishing in shallow rocks.
CARLOS U  This gun come with the shaft, but you should find a metalworker and made your own since the one that come with the gun is not that strong. If you make a bad shot to a 20 pound grouper the factory shaft is gone. The gun is great.
RALPH F  YES IT COMES WITH THE SHAFT
Rockney M  When the SL is not in the "power reducer" is it still just as powerful as the SL Star? And which would you recomend for shooting large grouper, hogfish, cobia, etc?
JONATHAN G  I would shoot on max power just to get a feel for the power. If it is getting good penetration then you could back it down. I shoot 5lbs - 65lbs channel/blue catfish on high and shoot 20 plus inch long walleye on low. If I shoot the walleye on high it goes all the way through the fish to including the washer and plastic keeper . So to answer your question "I don't know it depends" I will recommend upgrading the plastic keeper that comes on the shaft to something similar to the JBL spring style as it tends to break off on impact with rock. Also upgrade shafts to stronger style as they have the potential of bending then it could mess your bore up. But that is with any air gun. Hope this helps. Check out TheDiversEdge on facebook
CLINT N  It's is a great gun I have 3 of them. It is powerful. Hogfish should be fine but cobia you might want a little bigger gun and reel.
OMAR R  Yes, I can recomend this device, I'm still using with a great results 100% recomended omar
Shopper  When the SL is not in the "power reducer" is it still just as powerful as the SL Star? And which would you recomend for shooting large grouper, hogfish, cobia, etc?
PASCAL G  I seldom use the reducer it is great for hogs and grouper! The best advantage over some other guns is the sturdy spear ie the mares makes a similar gun with a skinnier spear that tends to bend easily.
RALPH F  I Don't know about the sl but the sl with power reducer does a great job for me, I've hunted grouper, flounder, hogs and it is great. I don't shoot cobia as you really need a reel for them. I chose that model for ease of loading too as the longer one would be harder to load and a shorter one don't have enough velocity. Goog luck and good hunting friend! Ralph Feldkamp
DAVID C  Hello, I would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the Cressi SL. This is the second SL I have owned. The first, i used for a couple of years and lost it in a battle with a large red snapper under a bridge span my shot of about 16' was not a kill shot but, it was all I had . My guess is, the spear line got cut in the fray, the lanyard around my wrist broke the ( not so well made) plastic eye that it went through on the gun. Under the bridge span in tight quarters, it got dusty quick I got the snapper but lost the gun I suspect it floated away. Instead of sinking like a teak band gun. Still I bought a new one ( there great for traveling ) Enough fish tales and the gun that got away. The cressi SL is a great gun. But, can be difficult to load for some. The second gun I have is significantly more difficult to load than my first it may be because it's new and may need some adjustment, Im not sure. It does seam to have more pop in unreduced mode , I would recommend using the reduced mode for in close reef type fishing the range seems to be best at 12-14 feet for good kill hogs grouper snapper easy kills, amberjack and other pelagics with the big and hard gill plates, sometimes good penetration is tough. I shoot a little father Back on them. You end up with a fight on your hands but, the penetration is better and you lose fewer fish. We all know that feeling watching a badly wounded fish swim away because the shot didn't hold. My review. **** 4stars. Comments...... It needs a stonger keeper and more in depth operation/tuning instructions. I upgraded the factory spear to a better steel. Its a buy in my log book.
CAMILO P  I do not know how powerful is the SL star, but I find this gun very powerful for its size, and it has always been enough for me. I am not an open water diver, but generally spear close to the shore and on shallow reefs or rock formations. The power reducer is a great feature for hunting very close to the reefs or under the rocks. It is still quite powerful and it goes much easier on your spear when you hit the rocks. For shooting large grouper I will not use the power reducer option unless you are shooting from very close range.
Shopper  The shaft is described as being 8mm, but the thread diameter is not specified. Is it a 7mm or 8mm thread?
JAMES B  The thread dia. for the Cressi SL shaft is 7mm. You will need spear tips that have 7mm threads or you can get an adapter that has 7mm female threads and 6mm male threads so you can use the 6mm tips that other guns have. I have both so that I'm covered each way. Some dive shops don't carry the 7mm tips as a stock item.
DANIEL A  Im pretty sure it is 8mm. I am in constant search for adapters to go from 8,to 7 and 6mm. It is hard to know what size the tips are too, so usually I just buy the tip I want and keep a couple of adapters on hand just in case.
EMIL C  yes the original shaft I got is 8mm and the thread is the same size 8mm.
MICHAEL V  7mm.
