perfect air flow, great price

By KHALED A.

great product, met my expectations and more, atomic is a great brand. the sealed reg makes sure nothing gets in. airflow is effortless even at depths, purge is great, overall a great product.

Best low budget high end reg there is!

By G M.

I tried atomic back in 2003 when I bought the most expensive T1 back then, fell in love with how effortless it was to breath through, I need to send the T1 back to atomic for a rebuild, in the meantime I bought a Z2 and same - same love how it feels...atomic is the only reg I will use. I have been a an instructor since 2002 and would recommend atomic regs to anyone willing to pay for them. Best reg on the market IMO.

Atomic Aquatics most compact and economical regulator system, the Z2 may be the least expensive of the Atomic line, but its combination of performance, ergonomics and materials are unmatched by the most expensive competitors. Built upon the B1/T1 platform, it shares the same breathing performance and patented features. The Z2 is a is a balanced flow-thru piston design using Atomics jet seat high flow stainless steel piston. Exclusive high-pressure piston seal system is self-lubricating for low friction and low maintenance. The Atomic jet seat system has no sharp edges that can damage the seat over time, like most competitors' first stages. Instead, Atomic employs a conical seat and blunt end piston. Atomics' valve seats are precision machined from an extremely strong aerospace specification seat material. This design combination is the most reliable seat system in the industry and enables the seat to go 2-years or 300 dives without service. Diving performance is superior at even low tank pressure. The Z2 is also freeze protected with a factory sealed first stage that also prevents contamination such as silt and sand from entering the valve mechanism. The regulator is Nitrox ready for mixtures Up to 40% out-of-the-box. The first-Stage has 2 high-pressure (HP) 7/16" and 7 low-pressure (LP) 3/8" ports.

The Z Series second stage is a balanced linear flow design for extremely easy breathing at all depths and dive conditions. The Z Series second stage is built-to-last with a Zirconium plated brass demand valve body, titanium lever and sealing orifice. The diaphragm is made from high quality silicone rubber. This pneumatically-balanced poppet second-stage has Atomics patented seat saving dynamic orifice which unlike most second-stage orifices is a floating valve design which reduces wear on the second-stage poppet seat when the regulator is not pressurized adding life to this important seal.

The Z series second-stage regulator is equipped with Atomics patented automatic flow control (AFC). This unique diaphragm activated vain automatically controls the flow and venturi-effect of the second-stage for optimum breathing resistance at all depths. The second-stage does have a soft over molded rapid adjustment knob for rare special situations. The regulator comes equipped with a 3/8" threaded 32" (81.3cm) low-pressure hose. The regulator weighs 2.3 lbs. (1,070 g) and comes with an owner's manual.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

JAMES D  Can you replace the stock hose on the Z2 with a MiFlex hose? If so can you do this yourself or does it need serviced by a tech to replace a hose?
Mario C  yes you can, as long as it is an atomic non swivel a regular LP hose wil sufffice, if you have the swivel you will need the item below https://www.leisurepro.com/p-atm020037/atomic-02-0037-3p-jam-nut-kit
MATT L  Do you sell this Reg without the 1st stage?
Mario C  yes : ) follow the link below and happy diving : )
JOE S  Yes. Atomic offers the Z2 second stage only in Grey, Blue and Octo Yellow.
IGOR A  What does it mean "sealed regulator"?
Mario C  Thank you for quesiton and answer. really nothing to add thx Joe!!
JOE S  It means that the piston chamber is filled with an O2 compatible lubricant to keep the elements out. A non sealed regulator is the same regulator without the lubricant added. You would want a sealed regulator if you are diving in water that would have lots of particulate or cold water. It will help reduce the likelihood of corrosion over time and freezing up.
Shopper  My primary reg hose is attached in a low pressure port on the barrel and comes out 90 degs, interfering with the tank valve. Should the primary reg hose attach to the bottom of the barrel?
PAUL K  It doesn't have to come out the bottom of the barrel. You can use any of the LP ports. You should just move the reg hose to a different port that doesn't interfere with the valve and allows for good hose routing.
Chris R  Will this regulator work well in cold water environments (locations requiring a 7mm wetsuit)?
SARAH P  My daughter used this in Monterey California..water is cold there! It worked fine. Are you going to be in water colder than 50 degrees?
YAN G  Being that this is the sealed version, it should work great in cold water.
DAVID L  Hi Chris: I live in Massachusetts and I've done 2 dives with this reg in 50 degree water wearing a 7mm wetsuit and it has worked great!
