The one to buy!

Well made and works!!

Review of Atomic gear specifically snorkel.

By Thomas G.

 -  Daytom, OH, US

Snorkel came and was exactly as expected and described on the website. I have only had opportunity to use in pool since receiving but function appears to be perfect. I also purchased the Venom mask and some split fins and all products came quickly and were exactly as expected. Good stuff.

Many divers won't even dive with a snorkel, just look around on the next dive you take at the beach or out on the charter boat, very few snorkels. You also hear many divers on those dives complain about their short bottom times and want to know how to increase it for more fun. A snorkel is part of that answer. The amount of air a diver wastes on the surface breathing from their regulator drastically reduces the amount of air for the actual time they are underwater.

A snorkel that is easy to clear is low in profile and one that stays dryer inside is what you are looking for. SV stand for Scupper Valve, also known as a one-way-valve. Just like the one-way-valve in your regulator which when you exhale drains water from your regulator the scupper valve basically works the same. The SV2 uses an additional feature that keeps water away from your mouth a small tube located just below the mouthpiece is designed to keep the breathing airway path free of water droplets. To keep water from easily entering the top of the snorkel the SV2 incorporates a grill grid opening which deflects water that would go down the end of a conventional snorkel tube. The flexible lower tube makes the Atomic SV2 Snorkel perfect for Scuba by automatically swinging out-of-the-way when you are using your Scuba regulator. So, if you hate to use a snorkel, but want more bottom time this is the solution you are looking for. Snorkel comes with a quick-release snorkel keeper that has a 30° rotation/sliding adjuster and has a removable and replaceable silicone mouthpiece. The Atomic SV2 Semi-Dry Snorkel is available in multiple color choices.

DIVE PINK & FIGHT BREST CANCER! For every Pink Snorkel $3 will be donated to fight breast cancer.

Just a snorkel

Not overly impressed with the scupper valve, seemed just as prone to getting water as other snorkels I have used. I do like the quick release and that it will slide up and down easily, the mouthpiece rotates easily. Bit pricey given all of the above.

Great Product!

By jonedwardsmith

Like all Atomic products, the SV2 moves the bar on a variety of points--some of them just tiny technical tweaks--but all add up to a professional grade item that simply outperforms. I've used this snorkel recreationally in a variety of conditions and have always been pleased--it simply works and let's me get back to having fun. I've also put it to work in some pretty big seas and rough chop--the scupper minimizes intake of water and the purge valve is a very effective--no effort at all. I've never been a big fan of "dry" snorkels because I hate that "lock out" feeling when you go for air at the surface--the SV2 fits my preferences and demands perfectly.

Comfortable, good in rough water

By Nyco

Just back from Belize where this snorkel worked very well in rough water at the beginning & end of 8 dives. Allowed me to concentrate on getting back in the boats in whitecap seas without inhaling water.

Designed for Scuba Divers,not snorkelers

By Richie

The scupper valve works great. If it is completely filled with water a moderate blow will expel water from the top and bottom of the snorkel. With more water inside the tube, it clears easier because of the siphoning action. When a small amount of water enters, it may require 3 blows to get out. The wave guard works good too. In moderately choppy waters, none entered the vent. The ventilation was good too as the bore is wide enough to allow heavy breathing. The snorkel keeper rotates and move up and down. It fits a bit slack on my 'Cressi big eyes evolution crystal' mask, because the straps are not wide enough. The snorkel is also heavy compared to my cressi corsica. I primarily Snorkel/Freedive in 80/20 % of the time in tropical waters. This snorkel has a flexible tube with no J type support. My mouth was getting tired and my teeth hurt from biting hard to keep the snorkel in my mouth, as I had to support the weight of the bottom part of the mouthpiece. I could snorkel for over 3 hrs. straight with the cressi corsica with no mouth fatigue. Not a bad snorkel, but for the price, it is the most expensive piece of plastic that I own. This snorkel was designed for scuba divers who need to save oxygen while getting out or back to the boat. The flexible mouthpiece tube was also made to swing away from the mouth and thus accomodate the regulator. It was not designed for snorkelers who require a snorkel with a J support for prolonged use. I would order the Cressi corsica or the Riffe J snorkel next time.

OK, but expensive...

By JOHN B.

I also found the scupper not so effective. It clears, but sometimes requires 2-3 blows. I started putting a hand over the intake. Also not so sure how the slide adjustment on the side is suppossed to work! Always slipped to full out position. Comfortable and effective, but not to justify the price.

i didn't have good luck with this

By TIM H.

for whatever reason i couldn't keep the water out of this. replaced with the cuda snorkel and had much better luck. most all of my atomic stuff has worked out well, just not this.

Lower purge not efficient

By GREG L.

The lower purge valve does not purge efficiently.

Wet, hard to clear

By BM

from Cape Cod, MA, US

This snorkel is opposite of everything Atomic claims it is. It does very poorly in choppy conditions, is extremely wet and very hard to clear, especially clearing nuisance water. I was looking for a better snorkel. Currently have an old Scuba Pro Shot Gun 2. Twin valve, open top. I tested the two side by side swimming along a choppy, south facing beach. Wind about 15 knots out of the south. I swam 15 minutes east, then 15 minutes west with each snorkel. The Atomic was prone to taking on water in both directions whereas the Scuba Pro was surprisingly dry. It was hard to clear small amounts of water from the Atomic and that needed to be done constantly. The SP clears far more easily and if it does get a bit swamped, because of the SP's simple open top, you can plug it with your thumb and be dry on the next exhale. You cannot do this with the Atomic due to the design of the top. Which is supposed to help keep it dry, but it fails miserably in this category. The Atomic tends to lay forward on the head so it is never even close to perpendicular to the water meaning you must crane your neck upwards to keep the Atomic out of the water. Put your head down in a neutral position and the next wave is guaranteed to enter. It is really a poor design. I would not recommend it.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
Christina R C  My existing 6-year old, Mares snorkel was getting aged and brittle. I decided that as long as I was getting a new Atomic mask I would purchase a new high quality Atomic snorkel to pair with it. They last for many years and quality is always worth the investment.
BOGDAN C  Best snorkel I ever had. Right size, doesn't flood, very light, bendable, purge works as expected, doesn't have much drag under water, clears easily.
Shopper  If this product is purchased used, does it come with a new mouth piece?
Russ R  NO, mouthpiece is part to the snorkel and is not removable.
Shopper  Is this a soft snorkel or hard one? Is it possible to bend it several times and stash in a pocket?
LeisurePro S  This snorkel has a hard top with a slightly flexible bottom. You wouldn't be able to fold it several times, however. If that's what you are looking for, check out Oceanic's pocket snorkel.
