Great Fins

By Patrick

 -  Saint Louis, MO, US

I bought these because I liked the old military rocket fins and these fins work very well. I like that they are short which allows me to have more maneuverability while diving while offer plenty of propulsion. They are my new "go to fins" for diving. The spring strap are easy to get on and off but are very secure while diving. I prefer these over my ScubPro Seawing Novas which are great fins as well.

Compact & Powerful

By Deborah H.

Bought these for drysuit dives and I also wanted to try a fin with a spring mount. The fin is not too heavy and helps with keeping feet down. Additionally it is super easy to don - spring stays taught on heel and doesn't move. Lastly, it doesn't take a lot to get moving in these fins. With normal kick power, the fin offers a great amount of propulsion. Got the yellow ones so I can be easily visible.

Designed in collaboration with the US military and renowned for outstanding performance and reliability, the APEKS RK3 is a rugged thermoplastic rubber fin featuring an over-sized foot pocket to accommodate dry suit boots and a spring strap for easy donning and doffing. The RK3 is available in three sizes of medium, large and super. APEKS didn't give the RK3 fin a shoe size range as this can be very misleading. The environment that an RK3 is used in will tend to dictate the size of fin that you need, for example do you dive in a warm environment wearing wetsuit boots, or are you walking across pebbled beaches and wearing a dry suit and rigid dry boots? Both forms of footwear may be a size 9, but will take up different amounts of space in the fin foot pocket. Therefore, APEKS recommend that you visit your local dive store and try the fins on with your own footwear, just to ensure that you're getting the right fit for your style of diving.

Based on one of the first vented rubber fins sold in North America and popular among military and professional divers. Compact, and ultra-rugged for use in harsh environments. Improved foot pocket with spring straps for ease of use with cold hands or thick gloves. The design has been the standard gear issue fin for military, special ops, coast guard and public safety divers for decades. Short wide blade provides maximum forward thrust while maintaining great maneuverability. Vented blade design reduces resistance on the upstroke and enhances thrust on the downstroke. The vents also eliminate vortexes that can occur along the back of the blade much in the same way split fins eliminate the vortex.

The blade material designed to hold up in the toughest environments, temperatures and abuse. Two large grommet holes designed to fit most carabiners for easy storage of the fins while accessing the dive site. Spring straps as standard, and custom designed buckle holds spring straps in optimum position. Simple push pin design allows simple replacement of springs if necessary. Fins are black or white in color.

Awesome power fins

By NATHAN T.

from Conroe , TX, US

These fins are awesome for TEC diving. Great for frog kicks and all the modified kicks you would use in SM,CCR, cave and wrench diving. Love the shorter blade that gives tons of power without fatigue. I traded up to these from the my Hollis F1 and am never going back.

On the heavy-side but fit well

By Jim H.

from Salinas, CA, US

I guess the jury is still out on these, used for two dives and they seem okay, I'll know better after a few more dives, they seem heavy and that didn't work well in a dive where we had to kick-out a distance from the shore to avoid kelp...

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
JOHN P  tech oriented
CLARENCE K  Good reviews
Duncan P  I've dived with these before and the experience is amazing and effortless. While this will be my first pair, I've only heard good things from other owners.
Nick Z  Is it hard to flutter kick? Is it hard to do the side stroke kick?
Jacob Z  Easier to do flutter kick then side stroke.
Nick Z  Could the apeks rk3 fins work decently well for snorkeling? If not, would you be able to frog kick with them while snorkeling?
Jacob Z  NO! Too light. Impossible to frog kick while snorkeling.
Patrick K  Yes they are really good scuba fins and should work for snorkeling. I use them for scuba diving and they are my new go to fin. I also own Scuba Pro Sea Wings and I prefer the rk3 fins over those fins. They are short which for me allows for more maneuverability while diving while offering plenty of propulsion under water. Yes they work well for frog kicking while diving.
NATHAN T  This is a great fun fin for the frog kick It is a fantastic TEC fin with a shorter more powerful blade that is probably overkill for snorkeling. Would it work in a pinch yes...would I buy it for snorkeling exclusively...no. There are other lighter fins designed just for snorkeling that would probably work better.
