Great Pocket for Great Price

By

I have now purchased six of these pockets. I've glued them onto both of my wetsuits and I have two more that I will be gluing onto my backup drysuit. This pocket is spacious but also folds down so it isn't bulky in storage or when you're not using them. You will want more auquaseal than what they come with. I buy an 8 oz tube (the one they come with is 0.75 oz) and that is enough to glue 4 pockets. So I'd recommend 2 oz per pocket. I trim the edges of the neoprene backing so it's not so large on my suit. Slide your suit onto a ironing board or something to spread the leg out. Then tape off where the pocket is going to go on your suit. Clean both the back of the pocket and the area on your wet/dry suit with MEK or some other thinner. Then spread aquaseal on the entire area on both the back of the pocket and your suit. Put them together and slide a piece of cardboard or something flat inside the pocket to make sure it makes contact all over with the suit. Then put some small lead weights (a few 2lb-ers work great) into the pocket on top of the cardboard to apply pressure. Leave it for at least 8 hrs. It takes 24 - 48 hrs to set properly, but you can take it off the ironing board after 8 and it will stay put. Flip the suit over and do the other side and you're good to go. Can dive it the next day if you really need to.

Excellent

I was a little nervous permanently modifying my wetsuit, but gave it a shot and am very happy with the result. I was tired of trying to find new ways to hang gear off my BC, and this pocket solved the issue. Heavy-duty construction, lots of Velcro to keep it closed, and collapsible for streamlining. I keep a UK 4C backup light, spool, and shears in mine routinely, with plenty of room. Some tips for installation: Buy more aqua seal, what they supply with the pocket is a joke. Use chalk to outline where you want it placed while you're wearing your wetsuit. Stretch your wetsuit over the pointy end of an ironing board to mimic the stretch when you're wearing it - doesn't have to be perfect but does need to be stretched. Warm up aqua seal before applying (place tube in warm water). Apply aqua seal to both wetsuit and pocket, a thin coat is fine. Stay ~1/2" from the edge. Use too much and it will squeeze out when compressed for drying and make a sticky mess. Stick together, cover the whole pocket with wax paper and place something heavy on top. When dry (dependent on temp and humidity), remove paper and add a bead of aqua seal around edge of neoprene of the pocket, to prevent a loose flap of neoprene as a source of peeling. No need to compress again. It will dry semi-clear so won't look too bad.
