About XS Scuba Airwave Inline Octopus

When you're taught how to dive you are given practice in buoyancy control more than any other skill. Once you start to dive every time you go underwater, fin the reef, or surface you use buoyancy control. All this time your octopus second stage regulator hangs un-used and out of mind. When a real life out-of-air situation occurs, the stress and anxiety mounts, and you find yourself fumbling for a piece of equipment you never use the Octopus! Combining your inflator devise (that you use on every dive) with your Octopus Regulator assures your ability to react properly when an Out-of-Air Emergency occurs. Be a safe diver with the XS Scuba AirWave Inline Octopus.

Easy Breathing Octopus Regulator due to its Pneumatic Balanced Valve and Venturi Adjustment Switch, the AirWave Inline Octopus attaches easily to any standard BCD Inflator Mechanism and is ready to use. Nice octo that breaths well

This is a great way to get rid of a hose. It breaths well and is not in the way. The only issue that makes it hard to use is the short hose. This short hose only allows use while keeping your head turned to the left. This restricts your head movememt making facing forward almost impossible. Rather inconvenient but for emergency use more than adequate.

Some good, some bad

Important to try it with your own BCD inflator before buying.

Good quality and ideal to travelers

By

from Sao Pauo, SP, BR

It is a good product and meets the needs. Less a hose in the set, ideal for traveling with less equipments.

Compact and out of the way 2nd stage

By

from Palmetto bay, FL, US

I use this while deep-drift spearfishing. It's very compact, out of the way and one less item to get hung up on speared fish or the reef while trying to subdue big grouper. Breaths decent for an emergency backup.

Be sure you need it

minus one long hose but comfortable octopus too. tried it with 3 different BCs and it was always placed too high so I have to hold the mouthpiece whith my teeth to prevent it from loosing. it's not too comfortable but it does the job so I still use it. maybe you'll have a better luck with another BC

Everything I need; nothing I don't...

By

I have this mounted on a Sherwood Tortuga BCD, and of course it's great to not have another hose wrapping around me. I could stand for the inline hose to be even a bit shorter, but it works great. There when I need it and out of the way. This isn't the type of octo that you hand off; this is the one you use when you hand off your main reg. For that reason, I don't really understand why it's yellow, since this is NOT the reg your "buddy" should be reaching for, so explain that you just use the same "share air" method, except he won't have to share the main back...

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
SHAWN L  Use one less hose with this for octo!
Brianna W  Everyone seems to complain about the short hose it comes with. Can I buy and attach a longer high ressure hose ? If so, would 35" suffice ? Thx
WAYNE G  For the diver to be streamlined, you would want to avoid a longer hose. This type of alternate air source is designed to be low profile on the divers left side and ready for emergency backup use. Short range to reach the divers mouth. It is not designed for buddy sharing. For that you would want an extended 39-40 inch hose with a different 2nd stage on your right side for buddy breathing/air sharing.
Clecio M  I do not think it's necessary to change the hose. All regulators of this type, have the shortest hose, however, correct for use with the BC. You will only need to use it in an emergency, in a rare and special situation.
Charlie E  Use low pressure hose (not high pressure). A 20inch hose comes with unit, maybe a 25-27 inch hose would allow you turn your head to the right more easily. I would not use a hose longer than 27inches.
NATHAN T  This is an in-line octopus that you buy to eliminate the normal octo house. A longer house out the bottom of the octo would defeat the purpose of the in-line concept and would not be advisable It works great and stacks on top of your BC LP inflator while using the same hose as the BC
JACK M  You could but the hose that Is on it works good for me you give your buddy your regulator and use it .short hose keeps it out of the sand
Brianna W  Thanks jack
ALEXANDR K  On the picture I see a rather big radiator. But is it suitable for cold water?
GARY P  I used the regulator for warm water only. 75 degrees F or above. Cold water diving is a rare event. If you are diving in water that requires attention to the second stage to prevent it from freezing, you should get a second stage specifally designed for cold eater. This is equally true for your safety second stage. If costs is a problem look for used regs. The XS scuba reg is not designed for cold water use.
CATHERINE G  I have used it in cold water and have not had any problems.
JEFFREY P  I have never used the octo in cold water. My family has used 3 of these on about 80 dives in warm water, approximately 82 degrees with no problems.
