Almost perfect, except it leaks...

from Charleston , SC, US

After struggling with cheap, stick-on diopters, I really wanted to love this gauge-reader mask. However, I'm on my second one, and I'm still having problems with the mask leaking. I think the problem is in the gasket seal to the face. The front portion of the mask is not very flexible, so the gasket doesn't seal well. I've tried everything: shaving closely, Vaseline, cinching the strap tightly. Nothing works except the latter, and then my head aches and I get mask face for hours after every dive. This isn't a problem if you don't mind water in your nose pocket (or in your eyes if you invert), or if you don't mind clearing every few minutes. I plan to keep this one after returning my first one, so I'm hoping it will get better with repeated wearings.

Improves vision, but leaky

I love the 1.75x magnification this mask gives me for reding my gauges and camera settings. However, I returned my first one because it was leaking around the lenses somewhere. The second one seems to be leaking around the seal under my nose. I can feel bubbles in the nose pocket. Believe me, I know how to seat a mask so it doesn't leak, and none of my other ones leak at all. And I don't have a mustache. Tightening the straps helps, but that leaves me with a headache and serious mask-face. I think the problem is in the contour. This mask is not shaped to follow the natural bend in most faces from the bridge of the nose to the cheekbones. And it's pretty rigid across the middle, so it doesn't flex much to fit your face. I'll keep diving it for photography dives and just clear it when it gets too sloshy, but I doubt I'll do many repetitive dives with it before I switch back to my Cressi Big Eyes.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
David A  I was having trouble finding a reader mask. The link "chat now" helped me find what I was looking for on this site. They responded immediately.
BRAD B  Silicone black color will keep extra peripheral light out of mask when cave diving, 1.75 cheaters help with reading side mount tank gauges located on or about shoulder chin area.
Roland L  Is there anyway to mount the go Pro camera to this mask ?
Kevin P  I do not think there would be a good way to mount a GoPro to the this mask. The new mask works good but be sure to coat with tooth paste ahead to help keep mask clear. Kevin
GERALD S  No not that I'm aware of. There are. Masks that do but not this model.
VIRIGINIA Y  I have no idea, I know nothing about gopros.
Gene F  Not as the mask is delivered. You might be able to add an accessory mount.
Richard W  No there is no special attachment and would imagine there is no way to really achieve that. Try a head set from GoPro, works fine.
