I feel safe with this knife. I plan to get one for the dive partner (wife). Be aware: this is a big knife

Perfect knife

By

Large which makes it easy to grip and use. Came in very handy when I got caught in a net. Sharp blade cut the net easily. Glad I had it.

Very good tool.

I have this knife in the solid black version. When I got it, I put a thin coating of o-ring grease all over the metal parts. I have seen NO corrosion whatsoever. I also use it on lionfish, cutting fishing line wrapped around sponges and coral, etc. Best knife/tool I have ever owned.

Needs Care for - Great Item

By

The knife is a Great item. The only downside is - you have to care for it carefully or it will rust. My knife rusted on me after only 2 dives. I'm sure the knife is great - I just did not care for it properly.

Questions about this item:

Bill M  Will this knife corrode? I plan to use it in salt water to put lionfish out of their misery after spearing them.
DANIEL V  Most dive knives are expected to be exposed to saltwater. That being said it is not made of titanium so you ARE more susceptible to corrosion. Be aware and clean well after each dive, especially in the joint. Side note the Recon is extremely large. Unless you need a sward you might be better of with the FogCutter X
Bill M  Thanks Daniel. I'm trying to keep my hand as far away from a Lionfish's poisonous spines as I can. Do you have a titanium knife with a 6" blade? I don't need the scissors.
JAMES F  I have noticed some light, surface layer corrosion on mine. I have owned mine for about 3 years.
TROY K  Not sure. I have only used it a couple times. It shows no signs of corrosion though. It is an amazing knife and the scissor function is flawless and will literally cut a piece if thin paper. Hope this helps... :)
Bill M  Thanks Troy. That helps.
Thomas G  Bill M, if by corrode you mean rust it depends on how well you maintain your knife. Being that it is stainless steel it will rust if not properly cleaned, oiled, and dried. However, if you buy the recon with the black finish the black finish does prevent a lot of corrosion because it has a special coat. hope this helped. P.S. I am an avid spearfisher and I have used this a lot on lion fish, it will do the trick.
Bill M  Thanks Thomas. I hope to use it on a lot of Lionfish. I was using a friend's five inch knife and wanted one a little longer.
MIGUEL C  Hello, very good, no rust, only use it in saltwater,I use it, the dry and the guardoengrasado, highly recommended, excellent.
DAVID H  No if you take care of it and wash and dry after use. But it is a heavier knife and be careful not to drop it. And it is really really sharp do be cardgulnofbuiur bcd. It is a good price though if you do drop it. The quality is good. I think you will be happy.
Shopper  Well This Knife Float?
WES K  No. This knife is quite large and heavy. It is now part of my camping gear.
WES K  No. This knife is quite large and heavy. It is now part of my camping gear.
PATRICK G  This is an excellent knive but it will not float! It will open like shears and cut small gauge wire! Has a hard metal back to sound your tank and click locks into its sheath easily and securely and is easily removable. As a public safety rescue diver I would gone with the smaller size but this one is still excellent!! Patrick FF-EMT SRT Rescur Diver
WILLIAM C  The knife does NOT float. Good knife, though.
MIGUEL C  Hello, Good cut, easy to use.
LUKE S  I take this knife with me on every dive. In my experience it will not float. If you are worried about loosing the knife lanyard it to your gear. It is great for untangling yourself in the water.
Ed N Tina H  Thanks Luke: I Have a Long History o' Loosin Knives! Hate Ta Spend $$ On Something I Might Loose In A Week. Lake Eufaula Oklahoma Is a Keeper, You Drop It The Lake Keeps it. I do Find Lots o' JUNK On The Bottom , That's Another Story Thanks Ed
Marilyn S  No this knife will not float.
DAVID H  No it will not. It is a great looking knife and I get a lot of compliments about it. My suggestion is to wear it and have a cheap alternate if you are afraid to use it or lose it. Remember never bring anything diving you can not afford to lose.
MARK K  No, It does not float
Shopper  Hi. Is there much of a concern for rust forming at the scissor joint on the heel of the blade? The screw or rivot (whichever it is) appears to be a jackpot for rust to form (or is it treated like the blade is?) - just wondering if my speculation is right or not.
WILLIAM C  I have had rust form on those parts, but if you clean the knife well after each use, there is no problem with rust. I left it to one of my kids to rinse & clean on one dive...and then I had to clean the rust off.
LeisurePro S  The knife is seems to hold up very with our customers we haven't had any complaints on rust.
