Now this is a knife!

i saw this knife at one of the Florida springs. A Tech-Rec cave diver had the blunt tip version mounted to his rig. He showed it to me and told me that he liked the way the it fulfilled the function of a knife and shears all in one. He did mention that while he saw no need for a "razor sharp" dive knife, that the plain edge of the fogcutter was a little too dull for his taste and that he had to sharpen it at bit. He thought that the Recon version was too long. I bought a similar knife ...

Could be Top Class if it was Titanium

This concept is great but they need to make this in Titanium ....I used it to cut the spines off Lion fish and the edge of the blade nicked and so it would not close well after that. Further is rusts EASILY and making it in Titanium would solve that problem ....Got two uses out of it :-( Would I buy it again? ONLY IF THERE WAS A TITANIUM ONE Would I recommend it? NOT AS IT NOW

Better than a knife or shears

By

from Middletown, NJ, US

NJ divers absolutely must carry something that will cut monofilament one-handed. EMT shears work, but it's one extra tool beside the dive knife, and they don't handle heavy line well. My FogCutter X is perfect for monofil and also shears heavy line and other materials with ease. On a dive in Raja Ampat, I watched my DM slowly sawing through a heavy line with both hands and a knife. I snipped the line, and gave him my FogCutter at the end of the cruise. As soon as I returned home, of course, I ordered another.

Could Be Top Class if it was Titanium

I love the concept and my problem with it is the metal seems too soft and it rusts quickly. If it was made from Titanium then it would be a great tool. I used it to cut the spines off of a lion fish and after two uses it would no longer close as the metal scissor blade was bent. After being in the water only 6-7 dives (even with thorough rinsing) its rusted badly.... Would I buy again? ONLY IF IT WAS TITANIUM

Great Multi-tool

By

Good size, easy to grip and pull from scabbard. Cutting hook placed well on the bottom of the blade (shouldn't be on top, where you're pulling toward yourself to cut). Scissor option seems to cut through thin wire easily and should be no trouble with fishing line, etc. Overall it seems well made. Got the blunt tip after realizing a traditional knife look to the eye is meaningless compared to functionality for such a tool.

Excellent tool, rotten sheath.

By

The fogcutter itself is very thoughtfully designed. The safe tip for screwdriving and prying is quite handy. The shears are very powerful. The shears also have a notch at the base of one blade that holds fine line (monofilament or leader) for easier one-handed cutting. I'd give the tool 5 stars, but putting it back in the sheath is extremely awkward. It's very hard to get it aligned so that it locks properly. Hard to believe that the same designer did the really rotten sheath and the excellent tool.
