About XS Scuba Worthington Cylinder HP 65 (8.2 liter) Steel 3442 psi (230 bar) Tank

The steel cylinders are manufactured at Worthington Cylinder's state of the art facility in Tilbury, Canada. The cylinders are manufactured using the Deep Draw and Ironing (DDI) process. Cylinders start from a circular plate of chrome-moly steel. Multiple draws on a hydraulic press transform the plate into an open ended shell. The shell is then closed, the neck is formed and the threads are machined. The DDI process produces the most consistence wall thickness resulting in the lightest weight, most efficient cylinders. This manufacturing process is what allows Worthington to supply cylinders with the best buoyancy characteristics for scuba diving.

During the process of Hot Dip Galvanizing, the exterior of the Worthington steel cylinders are submerged into 840 F molten zinc. The process deposits an 8 - 10 mil thick zinc barrier to protect against the corrosive ocean environment. This layer of zinc metallurgically bonds to the steel cylinder. The Zinc will not chip and wear away like a painted zinc finish. XS Scuba is so confident that exterior rust will not be an issue; they guarantee it for the life of the cylinder. If the exterior of your XS Scuba HDG steel cylinder rusts, XS Scuba will correct it for as long as you own the cylinder, without cost to you.

All the XS Scuba Worthington Cylinders are designed to be slightly negative at the end of a dive, unlike aluminum cylinders that provide positive buoyancy at the end of a dive, requiring the diver to wear added lead to compensate for the excess buoyancy. The XS Scuba Worthington Steel Cylinder allows you to wear less lead on all dives (for specific buoyancy characteristics see specifications). The interior of the cylinder is Highly-Resistant to Rust using a Phosphatized Finish. All Cylinders are Nitrox Cleaned and Sealed at the factory, free of hydrocarbons to a level of 40 mg per square meter and ready for pre-blended Nitrox up to 40% FO2.

Cylinder comes equipped with the XS Scuba Pro Valve. The XS Scuba's Pro Valve is designed and manufactured for long life and heavy use. Valve is made of marine grade brass with triple bright chrome plating for long life protection in salt water. Precision Machined from high tension brass and chrome plated the valve stems will give years of service and corrosion free operation. Easy Grip soft rubber Safety Hand Wheel with Stainless Steel Insert ensures long life and large ribs make turning handle easy even when wearing gloves. This New Unique Safety Hand Wheel allows the diver to visually see if the valve is completely turned on and off with a set of colored rings that appear on the valve side of the hand wheel. If you see Red" the valve is off or not completely open. If you see Green" the valve is completely open and ready for diving. New hand wheel takes the guess work out of knowing your valve is fully open and ready for diving.

Valve bonnets are O-ring sealed not copper crush washer sealed with extreme torque requirement. You won't need to Crank" on the valve when you open and close it with the 1.5-Hand Wheel Rotation from Full-On to Fully-Off. The Valves Seat Assembly is Teflon Coated for years of Smooth Operation and a One-Piece Safety Plug protected within the Valve Body guards against damage during transport. The Pro Valve will accommodate both Yoke and DIN Cylinders with its Removable 230 bar (3,336 psi) DIN Insert which can be removed using a 1/4" Hex Key Wrench. Vale has a 5/32" Hex Key Dip Tube and is Nitrox compatible up to 40%.

Included with the Cylinder Valve Assembly is a Durable, Quality Self-Draining Designed Tank Boot with Hexagon Edge to prevent rolling while cylinder is lying down. The XS Scuba Worthington HP Steel 3,442 psi (230 bars) Cylinder is a 65 cu ft (8.2 liter), has a 7.25" (18.4 cm) diameter and is covered by a 24 month limited warranty.

Comments about XS Scuba Worthington Cylinder HP 65 (8.2 liter) Steel 3442 psi (230 bar) Tank:

Really nice compact tank. I purchased 2 and putting them together as doubles to replace my old doubles which are getting too heavy.

Less weight and compactness will be easier to carry on my back especially for my shore dives.

    Questions about this item:

David Y  Hi, I am using 80 cu.ft AL tank 3000psi and normally dive 30-45 min. If I use this steel tank, can I extend dive time? How about AL 72cu.ft 3000 psi? Thank you
PAGE H  Depends on the steel tank. Keep in mind a lot of shops will fill a HP steel to the same level they fill a AL tank (between 3000 to 3200). Its one of those battles that you just don't seem to win with Shops (several reasons for it if you look on the internet). So with a typical fill the "High Pressure" designation will not get you the extra air you want. If you are looking for more air with a tank about size of an 80 AL, then I would suggest a 100 or 117 steel.
Shopper  how does the volume/capacity of this tank compare to an AL80? thanks!
Frank L  65 cu ft of air at 3442 psi. Standard aluminum "80" has 77.4 cu ft of air at 3000 psi.
