Before my first dive with the SL4 do I have to lubricate the O-ring? Or is it "plug and play" when first received?
How often should it be lubricated?
I used my light right out of the box without any problem. One thing: I haven't been using the switch because some reviewers complained they'd had it leak so I twist the rubber bezel to turn the light on and off. Lubricated the o-ring once when I changed the batteries. Light is still going strong!
Hope this helps.
I want to thanks everyone here for your most helpful replies. I took the SL4 for two dives on Friday in the Red Sea - 27 Meters and 20 Meters. It worked great, was very comfortable to keep in the BCD pocket, and provided really nice illumination. Thanks again and continued interesting diving to everyone here.
I have used my light during numerous dives and never lubricated the O-ring. However, it's a good practice to do so on any O-rings used for diving (using food grade silicon lube only), but it has not been necessary for me. I am more concerned about not stripping the threads of the light top when I replace the batteries, than with the O-ring. The following is my opinion, and your decision: You can dive with the brand new light out of the package without worrying about the O-ring, just ensure that the light top is screwed down snugly without over-tightening it.
i do a lot of underwater photography and I lubricate my o rings on my camera before every trip. likewise, I would lubricate the o ring on the flashlight once a year or more if you dive a lot. As far as I know, it does not hurt to lubricate.
It's plug and play. After every dive I llubricate the O-rings with silicone jelly. This is a great dive light.
Mine came with a small about of grease on it so it was ready to go, that didn't stop me from removing, cleaning, inspecting, and re-applying grease though.
I have gone a few days and multiple dives in between lubricating just make sure you're not unscrewing/re-screwing the bezel.
Thanks so much. Joel
Plug and play. Have not lubricated since I bought the light. I guess you only need to lubricate everytime you change bulbs or batteries.
Great light. I am glad I bought the item.
