what is the difference between this model and the SL4 L1?
SL-4 eLED is a great dive light....I use one for my primary light all the time in limited visibility water and night dives. Batteries seem to last a lot longer with the eLED's. Do not get it in a dark color, you can loose them to easy....stick with yellow or lime green.
I did some research for you to compare the two.
According to the Underwater Kinetics web page the SL4 isn't listed anymore. However, they are still available from various sources.
1. The SL4 has a halogen bulb with 113 lumens brightness and 5 hours burn time.
2. The SL4 L1 is an LED with 400 lumens brightness and 10 hours burn time.
3. The SL4 L1 is about $35 more.
4. Both use 4 c-cell alkaline batteries.
5. They appear to be the same size.
I really like the SL4 and, as I do very little night diving, is my primary light. It fits in my small BCD pocket.
Now that I read the difference in the lumens and burn time I'm tempted to purchase the SL4 L1. It sounds like it's considerably brighter. I'm off the Fiji for two weeks in November. I'll wait a while to read some reviews. There is a review on utube but I haven't watched it yet.
We have an original SL4, an SL4 eLed and an SL4 eLed L1. The SL4 eLed is far brighter than the SL4 and the L1 is significantly brighter than the SL4 eLed. For the extra 10.00, I would definitely get the L1. In fact, when I bought mine, the L1 was 90.00 and well worth it.
From what I can tell, the SL4 eLED 1 has higher lumens than the SL4 eLED which I own. Makes sense - the SL4 eLED just isn't bright enough for what I need.
