Good bright light, bulb doesn't run batteries down quickly.

By Echo

Good for lobster diving as it is bright and the batteries don't drain quickly like some lights. I perticularly like the on and off switch, it is easy to operate.

solid Performance

Our shop purchased ten of these lights for use on night dives. They are simple to use and provide a powerful beam for such a compact light. The switch is easy to operate and eliminates flooding since the switch is just on and off. Dive lights that operate by turning the lense to switch on are very susceptible to flooding by inexperienced users of dive lights. We use rechargeable batteries. A thorough rinse in fresh water has kept our lights in very good condition.

The high intensity LED and incredible battery life move the SL4 (L1) to the top of the chart for international dive travel. Compact size and narrow penetrating beam allow you to see way to the back of an overhand on the wall, daytime or night. As an added-bonus the SL4 is equally at home at work or around the house as well as in bad weather. The eLED circuitry provides relatively constant brightness throughout most of the life of the batteries. As the batteries are nearly depleted the brightness of the LED falls sharply but does not go out as happens with classical filament lamps. This brightness will persist for several days, making this light valuable for emergency situations. The SL4 eLED is also great as a photo spotting light or to illuminate gauges and dive tables.

The SL4 LED operates more efficiently and produces more-light when it is cool. Underwater, the SL4 eLED burns brighter for almost half of the battery life, due to the unique way that heat is conducted away from the LED. The higher brightness consumes a little more power and slightly reduces the battery life. The SL4's eLED lamp produces 400 lumens of brightness. To reduce glare and protect the light, the SL4 comes with a Molded Rubber Bezel Cover. The Rotary Switch is easily activated with the thumb and index finger for single hand operation. The light is powered by 4 x C"-cell alkaline batteries (included) with a burn time of 10-hours. The light measures 6.2" x 1.5" x 1.7" (15.75 x 3.81 x 4.32 cm), weighs 15.02 oz. (425.81 g) and is depth rated to 500' (152.4 meters). The SL4 is available in 3 color choices, includes an owner's manual, adjustable rubber covered wrist lanyard and is proudly made in the USA.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Richard P  How do you install batteries?
Steven O  To install new batteries you unscrew the black lens portion. There will be an O-ring inside that you will also want to ensure is still lubricated so that it maintains a waterproof seal. If it needs additional lubrication you can use a light coat of silicone grease.
ELIZABETH C  To install the batteries, you unscrew the bulb end of the torch, then load inside - you will see instructions on the inside of the torch.
ROSS H  The front part of the light twists off (similar to a standard flashlight).
KEN N  The front bulb housing screws off. You place the first two batteries in (check polarity), then once seated in place insert the next two batteries that sit side-by-side by the first two batteries (remember to check polarity before inserting). This is why the handle looks wide, but the grip is comfortable.
DONNA A  Sorry purchase was for resale, so we never had to install the batteries. Contact Underwater Kinetics directly.
Shopper  How do you change bulb in Sl4, older model, just got it used?
JONATHAN G  U screw at top. You have to replace entire light and mirror assembly.
Shopper  Just got Sl4 used, fresh batteries but I think bulb is out. How do I change the bulb?
DANA T  Unscrew the front.
LARRY L  You can get the replacement bulb and reflector kit right here at Leisure Pro. Here is the link http://www.leisurepro.com/p-uktrbsl4e/underwater-kinetics-bulb-and-reflector-assembly-for-sl4-eled
CURTISS B  Easy! Unscrew the rubber covered black top of the light. It's a tight seal cause it has a o-ring gasket - then the bulb and attached silver housing will come right out - all one piece. Numbers on it make it easy to source replacement
ARI M  Before my first dive with the SL4 do I have to lubricate the O-ring? Or is it "plug and play" when first received? How often should it be lubricated? Thanks. Joel
JEROME P  Hi Joel, I used my light right out of the box without any problem. One thing: I haven't been using the switch because some reviewers complained they'd had it leak so I twist the rubber bezel to turn the light on and off. Lubricated the o-ring once when I changed the batteries. Light is still going strong! Hope this helps. Jerry
ARI M  I want to thanks everyone here for your most helpful replies. I took the SL4 for two dives on Friday in the Red Sea - 27 Meters and 20 Meters. It worked great, was very comfortable to keep in the BCD pocket, and provided really nice illumination. Thanks again and continued interesting diving to everyone here.
STEVEN D  I have used my light during numerous dives and never lubricated the O-ring. However, it's a good practice to do so on any O-rings used for diving (using food grade silicon lube only), but it has not been necessary for me. I am more concerned about not stripping the threads of the light top when I replace the batteries, than with the O-ring. The following is my opinion, and your decision: You can dive with the brand new light out of the package without worrying about the O-ring, just ensure that the light top is screwed down snugly without over-tightening it.
MICHAEL M  i do a lot of underwater photography and I lubricate my o rings on my camera before every trip. likewise, I would lubricate the o ring on the flashlight once a year or more if you dive a lot. As far as I know, it does not hurt to lubricate.
JUAN F  It's plug and play. After every dive I llubricate the O-rings with silicone jelly. This is a great dive light.
MICHAEL S  Mine came with a small about of grease on it so it was ready to go, that didn't stop me from removing, cleaning, inspecting, and re-applying grease though. I have gone a few days and multiple dives in between lubricating just make sure you're not unscrewing/re-screwing the bezel.
ARI M  Thanks so much. Joel
REUBEN R  Plug and play. Have not lubricated since I bought the light. I guess you only need to lubricate everytime you change bulbs or batteries. Great light. I am glad I bought the item.
henry s  can you use lithium batteries in this flashlight instead of alkaline?
BRYAN L  As long as they are 1.5v nominal voltage. And lithium batteries that would fit (C type) would be 1.5v.
SUSAN K  no. but get good Duracell batteries and they'll last a long time.
ROBERT M  That question should be addressed to the manufacturer.
JAMES R  Yes as long as the standard voltage is maintained.
