Trashed After 2 Trips!

I really liked this bag, however after two trips the entire hard backing has completely broken and the bag is now not useable, it won't even stand up on its own. It is still under warranty, however I have to send it back to Leisure Pro which is going to cost me over $80. And if it happened once, no guarantees that it won't happen again and I don't know that I want to spend the money to send it back only to have to purchase an entire new bag. not an everyday bag

By

from Port Orford, OR, US

I have gone through 2 of these bags before I learned this lesson. The size and shape of this bag make it a great dive bag. But mechanically it does not hold up as a frequently used bag. I dive the from shore 2 to 3 times per month and this bag has broken down over 6 months a total of:14 Oregon coast dives with 1 Hawaii trip of 2 weeks 40 dives. Negatives-- Hard to keep clean inside fabric liner more in the way than helpful, no padding, bottom plastic piece is fragile, outside material stains easily, extendable handle freezes up and won't extend. positives- very large and holds all gear easily but in a jumble difficult to separate, light weight works great for air travel. Next time I am only going to use it for air travel. I use it for my clothes stuffing around dive gear for padding. Carry on regulator to save weight. For boat dives in Hawaii it fit great under my seat on the boat. Use with care if you want it to last.

Awsome Travel Bag

By

I haven't actually used this as of yet however i have all my gear packed, ready for a trip to Florida. Wetsuit, fins, emergency kit, snorkel/mask, boots, gloves, hood, towels, etc. all fit perfect and the tie down staps hold everything in place. I am a EXTREME frequent flier so i can check bags up to 70lbs for free so it will be interesting to see what this bag weighs loaded but at first glance, it seems it will be well within the limits. I love AquaLung's products and they seem to have done a great job with this bag.

Good bag, but...

By

Nice big bag, but..... I have two issues with it... First, received very quickly as always, but package was banged up, not very well protected and my bag was a little damaged. Don't have time to send back for replacement because of upcoming trip. Second, bag has little padding so,I'm worried about the protection. I bought the 850 bag first, and love it. Nice padding all around except for the lid. Would hold all gear needed for a diver for a week. However, I needed another bigger bag to hold more dive / snorkeling gear for several people, so I also bought the 1550. Big bag, will hold what I need it too, but no,padding like the 850. More just like a big suitcase... Had they padded this one like it's smaller brother, I think it would be great, and would gladly accept a little more weight for the protection... Will see how it works very shortly, but I'm wishing I would just have bought another 850...

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
KEITH B  I went to leisure pro chat and the gentleman guided me to this purchase he took the time to get the right fit THANK YOU
BROOKE H  Wanted a large dive gear bag...this was a bit of a let down for travel though. It was a nice size but a-holes at certain airlines charge extra for the size of the bag.
Shopper  is this bag bigger than the aqualung 850 bag ?
ANTHONY D  Yes, almost twice as large. It will easily hold complete dive gear - BCDs, fins, wetsuits, etc for two people. Only downside is that it can easily exceed the 50 pound weight limit imposed by many airlines.
BILL M  I am not sure but the plastic internal framing fell apart after 5 times using it
JEFF H  Yes, although it also weighs almost 2 lbs more. I might opt for the smaller, packed to weight when needed... 850 traveler is 14" x 31" x 14", volume of 6,076 cubic inches , weighs 8.8 lbs 1550 measures 31" x 19" x 12"; volume of 7,068 cubic inches; weighs 10.6 lbs
Shopper  will this fit in aircraft overhead?
KATHY P  Not any that I have been in.
JAMES M  I actually bought the large the meduim was back ordered so I cancelled it and got the large. hard to say, but I want to say probably not if you compare specs vs it's large counterpart you will see the only difference is the medium is a little on the smaller side in terms of how deep it is. The width and the height are the same. How much gear are you wanting to put in there??
MARK M  Most definitely not. In fact, this is the largest size bag that American carriers will accept as checked luggage (62 inches). That said, it will hold two full sets of gear and wetsuits, while weighing less than 50 pounds.
ROBERT A  Absolutely not.
THOMAS M  Hi there, The medium aqua lung traveler WILL NOT fit in the overhead. This roller bag is huge-you could probably fit in it while wearing all of your scuba gear including the flippers. The roller bag will need to be checked in at the airline counter. And without much effort you can partially fill it with 50lbs. of scuba stuff and clothes. I really like this roller bag. It's is easy to manuever. Well made. And easily carries all of my stuff plus the kitchen sink.
ROBERT K  No. This bag has to be a checked bag. It is the maximum size bag allowed by the airlines. With that said, it holds all my gear & clothes when I travel. It's a great bag for the scuba diver to have.
SAMUEL K  Absolutely not.
MIKE K  No
ROGER S  No, This bag is too large to use as a carry on.
Brenda E  No this bag must be checked. It is the size of normal luggage, not carryon size.
RANDY G  no it is a bag that meets checked bag limits
Kasia W  This bag is : Overall Measurements (H x W x D): 31" x 19" x 12" (78.7 x 48.3 x 30.5 cm). It is too big to be a carry on.
JEFF H  Most definitely NOT. This is a huge rolling suitcase that hits the maximum (50 lb) weight and is still 2/3 full. Check out the dimensions of this bag vs the standard allowed for bringing onboard...
CAMERON H  No, it is very large and must be checked.
ANTHONY D  Nope. It will hold a lot of gear - made for bulky stuff like BCs and fins. Easily holds 2 BCs, 2 sets of fins and the rest of our gear. It can be packed to over 50 pounds easily, so we take a luggage scale with us to avoid overweight luggage fees. It has held up to 4 trips so far with no issues. The fin pockets on the inside actually help the bags structure once fins are in.
CONNIE Z  Definitely not. This is a great bag that will safely get all of your dive gear wherever your travels take you... but you've gotta check it. It is really good for lugging around damp gear without getting the trunk of your car sopping wet, too. I highly recommend this bag for lots of reasons! My husband and I each have one that we've taken on several international dive trips. Handle is smooth. Holds everything. Rugged. It's a great purchase.
Scott S  No, this bag exceeds airline standards for carry on luggage.
COLIN H  Absolutely not. Much to large. Checked baggage only.
SHAWN T  No.
DONALD W  No, we have always had to check it in.
MICHAEL G  No, to large of a bag. The measure mental are posted in the specs. Defiantly needs to be checked. Best dice bag I've ever owned!
