About Aqua Lung Slingshot Open Heel Fins

When someone says the word "Slingshot", most people gain mental images of something moving fast and adeptly. Those images are key to Aqua Lung's new Slingshot Fins. The Slingshot Fins will help you move through the water with Speed and Ease you never thought possible. These Fins brag of having Power Bands, which are basically Coiled Energy waiting to Spring-into-Action as you Fin. Pure Silicone Power Bands are Loaded-with-Energy on the Power Stroke. They Release their Energy Prior-to-the-Upstroke to provide an Added Boost of Power. Instead of Wasting your Energy, you Accumulate-it-and-Reclaim it! Power Bands Lessen Fatigue and Add Thrust.

The Mid-Foot Joint Increases the Slingshot's Flexibility, which will make each Kick more Efficient and Comfortable, partially due to the fact it move the source of your Kicks from the Front of your Foot to the Entire Leg. This takes the Strain off of the Toes and the Top of the Ankle. The result is a Dramatic Improvement in Comfort. You can now use the Entire Foot to Power the Fin. This provides the Blade a Significantly Larger Range of Motion, often up to 5 times that of a conventional fin.

Finally, much like a Car or High-End Bicycle has a Gear Shift, so do the Slingshot Fins. The Gear Shift allows you choose one of three Settings to Control your Energy and Effort Levels in Response to your Diving Conditions. Easy to Shift During-the-Dive, the three Settings can be made even with Gloves. Because these Fins contain Harnessed Energy and an Ingenious Design, you'll experience Less Fatigue and Joint Pain and more Enjoyment than you would wearing any other fins. The Slingshot Fins come equipped with Adjustable Fin Straps with Squeeze-Style" Quick-Release Buckles and the Straps have a Large Pull-Tab for Ease of Donning and Doffing. These Open Heel Non-Vented Fins are available in 3 sizes of Small, Medium or Large/X-Large and are available in Silver/Black or Silver/Blue colors. The Slingshot Fins are covered by a 24 month limited warranty.

The Aqua Lung Slingshot Open Heel Fins is commonly used for Recreation, SCUBA, Snorkeling, Travel and more. These fins are what they are advertised to be in that they are powerful and are easy on the feet. However, my first use of the fins did not last one day in open water. It may be a fluke, but one of the power bands broke near the fin end of the band. They became unusable during my second dive of the day. Fortunately I brought a second set of fins. I was on an 8-day live aboard trip in Thailand and would have not been able to dive had I not thought to bring spare fins. This flaw is crippling to a dive trip if they are your only fins and it should be addressed at the manufacturer's level. For their price, this is a very big risk.

Having said this, Leisurepro has provided excellent service and will be replacing my fins. I am more than willing to try them again. I believe this incident is isolated and probably won't happen again. But I will take a spare pair just in case.

When the fins did work, they were very powerful and there is less stress on the foot. The fin is isolated from the foot pocket allowing the action of the fin to take place without bending the foot.

The foot pocket is a little wide but they are very comfortable.

Another drawback is their length when it comes to packing. They are a long fin, so have a big dive if you want to travel with them. Their length and width provide excellent power, however.

Great product. I just got the one in a million misfit fin. Perhaps I will write another review when I test the replacement fins.

Was diving in Cozumel, Mexico and had a Band snap at 100 feet. Not fun! Like swimming with a Flat tire. Can't kick. I had to rent fins for the rest of the week.Called Leisure Pro when I returned they sent me two Bands.Diving in Lake Michigan two weeks ago, 50 feet down and had another Band snap.I called Leisure Pro to return the FINS. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I'm going with something else. These fins have cost me too much.* Abandoned Dive in Cozumel and didn't do 2nd Tank.* Abandoned Dive in Lake Michigan - Cost of the Boat.* [...]** And One very upset Dive Partner - same friend on both dives.Further more, I called Aqua Lung to complain and they said Leisure Pro is not an Authorized Dealer for their Product. Also, Aqua Lung told me they had all kind of problems in the past with the Bands. About two years ago, they changed the Band design and haven't had any problems.I wonder if Leisure Pro Sold me a new old design of the fin. In any event, I've had enough.

Comments about Aqualung Aqua Lung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:

I LOVE these fins! Being fairly new to diving (25 dives), I've been using the fins my dive shop told me to buy and never really thought fins made a lot difference. They were middle of the road fins and I saw a lot of other divers using them. (Guess we go to the same dive shop.) I've always had a hard time keeping up with my dive buddy and figured it was because, being a woman, my legs are not as powerful. Thought it had something to do with him being so much taller, having more experience or having a better technique. Also, when we had to go against a current I had to work really hard to make headway and just wore myself out.

I decided to do some homework on fins. Finally decided to try out these Sling Shots. OMG! First time out in the first few kicks I could feel the difference in these fins. These suckers put some serious power in your kick. No problem keeping up with my buddy, making it better for him too since he didn't have to reduce speed for me. And current, what current? Adjusting the tension is easy, even under water while wearing them. This really gives you control when your needs change. These fins have brought my diving experience to a new level....something I never thought a pair of fins could do.

The only "con" I can come up with is color choice. What can I say? I'm a girl, I'd like some choices.

Comments about Aqualung Aqua Lung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:

In previous review I indicated that I gave it five out of five. Since I was not able to change my pervious review, I am writing another one. Now I have more experiences to date. I was thinking in term of overall snorkeling/diving safety: why have so many mechanical parts (replacement parts cost adds up after a while) that can break easily after first or few dive/snorkeling? The slingshot band breaks easily. You may not be able to replace the bands while diving underwater because you need tool to replace it depending how band broke apart.

The fin is nice looking and large. I think these fins are good for snorkeling only. It was bit heavy. It seemed klunky on the kick compared to regular fins! The bands are not tight even after adjustments. If you must have these fins then I recommend using hard soled booties. Not soft sole because the foot pocket is bit large (boxy) and stiff (cause soreness) on your upper foot. Buy lots of bands!! When I used these fins during my confided pool dive the band just snapped like a rubber band after using it only twice in ocean and pool? I was not happy at all! This product really left me bad overall impression. I did not even use it for regular diving due to safety concerns. I have tried on another much better fin that propelled better and does not have all these extra breakable parts.

Ask yourself this when deciding on purchasing this product: Would you be confident in your slingshot fins if band break during your dive? What if there is a stronger current, band breaks and how will you swim back to boat or shore safely?

Ask a Leisure Pro dive expert via chat for latest technology break through on another new dive fins. I was surprised with what I was recommended that blew these fins out of the water. It did not break my bank.
