I bought the Sherwood Avid CQR 2 in July 2009 and have used it almost exclusivly since. I did replace those silly cam tank straps with "ScubaPro" style fully opening tank straps and jury rigged a crotch strap but that's just personal preference. It is still in great shape, but I recently lost 60 lbs and my XXL BC no longer fits. I did not even give it a second thought when I ordered an XL AVID BC with the new CQR 3 upgrade.

The only really serious design problem with the CQR 2 was the difficulty in reinserting the weight pockets back into the BC. The CQR 3 has a redesign that puts the locking clips up front in a separate pocket where they are much easier to reattach. The new BC itself is just as comfortable and works just as well as the older CQR 2 model.

Now as to my complaints. First they tucked the rear trim weight pockets underneath the fabric belt of the BC instead leaving them on the outside as in the older model. I have no idea why they did this? I makes the BC look more streamlined but it also makes it harder to load and unload trim weights.

The really incomprehensible change is the deletion of the velcro "SMB" pocket on the right side of the BC. It was a great place to keep defog, a small light, etc.

All in all I still love the BC and recommend it highly.

I bought this and several other products from Leisure Pro and I could not be happier with their service. Aaron is the man to call on the phone.
I just returned from Roatan and did 11 dives with this BC. Integrated weights never fell out, easy to dump air, no problems. Now the but. I dove at Tyrll's and when they saw my Sherwood Avid BC they asked me to come into the store room where they kept all the equipment. He pulled out a 3 year old Sherwood Avid BC. On the back where the two tank straps connect to the BC via plastic, both were broken off. The diver only dove at Tyrll's and had about 40 dives on the BC. When Sammy the boat captain had pulled the tank and BC onto the boat, the two plastic straps broke. They felt this was a weak point in the jacket and felt that if the straps were laced into the fabric and reinforced there would not be a problem. I have sent an e-mail to Sherwood regarding the issue. At 66, I had hoped this would be my last BC, now I am not sure. I asked Leisure Pro if I could upgrade, and they said they would buy it back as a used BC which I understand.

Comments about Sherwood 2013 Avid CQR 3 BCD:

i was so pleased with this item I ordered one for myself after ordering one for my daughter. Unfortunately the size we order for my daughter XS simply did not fit even though it was truly a comfortable fit for me. she is 5"6' 130, and muscular, the XS was too big. She went with the cressi travelight despite it was not as comfortable. The specific issue was that it simply did not wrap tight enough around her even with BC filled with air. With that said, I would recommend this to anyone as its a item that will most likely last a lifetime. For me, I am 6'0", 230lbs with a small belly. The large fit me perfectly.

Comments about Sherwood 2013 Avid CQR 3 BCD:

Love This BCD purchase one for myself and girlfriend,in April/2013. I have over 50 dives in it to date 8/14. After serveral adjustments it fits perfectly. I rinse with fresh water after every dive and keep it out of the sun. still looks brand New no signs of wear or fading. others mentioned the plastic cracking in the back, Probably cause by lack of proper care, not rinsing after use and leaving in the sun.

Comments about Sherwood 2013 Avid CQR 3 BCD:

I purchased two of the Avid CQR 3s for my son (26) and me. XL for both of us (6'2" and 6'4" and both around 210-215 lbs. The fit was great and very adjustable for you own personal fit. There was lag time from order to reception due to back order, but I am happy for the wait. Been diving with it in the Cayman Islands in February and May of 2014 and have completed over 25 dives with the Avid 3. I like the double tank straps that keeps the tank secure. D clamps all over the rig and weight placement provides for an easy balanced dive. Quick release works well, however hope never to need.

If I had to find something on which to be critical, it would be the pockets are a little small once the weights are in their slots. You can still utilize with no problem. Just don't plan on trying to stuff a lot of items in there.

The diving has been shallow to 100 feet plus in warm water. I am very pleased with the BC and would recommend it.
