Need SAR vest to meet Civil Air Patrol requirements. Does this one fit the bill?
I'm sorry, I don't know what the Civil Air Patrol requirements are, so I can't say whether it meets them. One of our biologists here at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service picked this out because it meets our requirements.

I was unable to find any specific CAP requirements for PFDs, however, since this vest meets the USCG Type III PFD requirements I would say the question comes down to your intended usage. Where it is inherently buoyant, I would not think it a good choice for aboard an aircraft ("In the unlikely event of a water landing" an inherently buoyant vest has the potential to trap you in a submerged/sinking aircraft.) For ground-based search teams (to include those operating from boats), this vest should be adequate. My fire department uses this vest for our line tenders and shore safeties on our water rescue team.
Hi Judith, I wish I could help but I don't know the answer. I'd suggest contacting the administration or safety officer for your Civil Air Patrol group.
