Snorkeling Security Blanket

By

We are living in Bermuda and we bought these vests primarily for visitors who come and want to snorkel but are not entirely comfortable in the water. It serves the purpose. Our guests feel more comfortable, and we actually feel better knowing that, if we had to, we could blow up the vest and easily float a fatigued snorkeler to shore. We are generally snorkeling in calm waters, so if I were to do it over again, I'd probably get the "reef" vest versus the "current" vest. The main problem with the vest is that it is quite large and a bit stiff. Even for people who wear an x-large or xx-large t-shirt, the vest was big. You may find that the youth size is adequate for some adults. The material is stiff and can bother the neck when inflated. On that note, when fully-inflated, the vest can be uncomfortable on the neck. Finally, the vest states right on it that it is not a life-saving device, so I just mention that in case the product description does not. Bottom line is that it does what we need it to do, but if I were to wear a vest every day for snorkeling, I'd probably try to find one that's softer and a better fit.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Does this deflate?
CYNTHIA B  I agree with Leni C, by the way. I think the vest is rather large for snorkeling and if it's inflated at all, it gets in the way. It's more like a security blanket for those who are not entirely comfortable in the water, or to allow someone to float and rest a while. When inflated, it would make me feel claustrophobic. That said--it serves the purpose for which we purchased it, but would have probably been okay ordering the "youth" size.
CYNTHIA B  Yes. It deflates if you hold down the valve and probably would want to press on the vest to help speed up the process. It appears that you can lock the valve in place so you do not accidentally deflate it (though I don't think it would be easy to deflate by accident). We bought these because we live in Bermuda and are often having visitors who want to snorkel but do not feel all that comfortable in the water, so the vest gives a sense of confidence, without getting too much in the way when it's deflated. I don't think it's meant to be a life jacket for a boat or something like that, though.
LENI C  This vest only inflates and deflates manually. There is no co2 cartridge for emergency inflating which I would have liked. This vest is enormous which is unnecessary for snorkeling and in fact interferes.
