About Scubapro Air 2, Combination Octopus/Inflator Regulator

When you took dive lessons you learned to perform specific skills to make you safe and comfortable underwater and at the surface. One of those skills was buoyancy control. Once you start diving for fun you use your buoyancy control devise constantly throughout the dive. Your octopus or alternate air source devise on the other hand is never used unless there is an emergency out of air situation. Reacting properly in an out of air situation can make the difference between a safe dive and a tragedy. If your alternate air source and your BCD inflator devise are one and the same you will always know where to find it in an emergency.

The 5th generation of the Air 2 by Scubapro is a second stage regulator and balanced inflator in a single, compact housing. The Air 2 - 5th Generation builds upon an already superior product. It is lightweight, streamline, and eliminates the need for a backup-regulator. The Air 2's air-balanced power inflator valve means you'll have a steady stream of air, regardless of the pressure in your tank. The Air 2 - 5th Generation leaves you breathing- easy throughout your dives. The Air 2 has a Venturi Initiated Vacuum Assist (VIVA) Flow Vane for safe and uncomplicated use now has a dive/pre-dive switch. This switch allows the regulator mechanism to be set more like that of a standard second stage regulator. The Air 2 - 5th Generation breathes like a dream, rivaling some primary second stage models. It is CE-certified for waters 50°F (10°C) or warmer.

The Air 2 provides one-hand operation for instinctive and simple operation the self-flushing mechanism requires just one push-on-the-purge to clear away all dirt or to purge water. The regulator mechanism is a simple, yet reliable classic downstream demand valve. Air 2 is equipped with a larger hi-comfort ergonomic mouthpiece; soft second-stage cover and one-button purge function. The Regulator's pre-tuned system is housed in a precision molded carbon fiber and techno-polymer case for strength and durability. The demand valve is chrome plated brass with a stainless steel spring and a silicone rubber diaphragm and exhaust valve. The Air 2 comes with a 3/8" threaded 27.56" (70 cm) high-flow low-pressure hose; owner's manual and is covered by a limited lifetime warranty.

Streamlined and easy

When you think about the Air2, you probably first think about it for eliminating hoses, and thats the exact reason I got it. Less to bring with me and one less hose/connector hanging off my first stage. It also is one less thing to get caught on reefs/wrecks. I've dove with octo's and had no problems so the only reason I chose this as my octo is to reduce clutter. One of the divemasters I have been diving with said, oh an Air2, I use those on all my rentals/during classes. When questioned,...

I was looking forward to eliminating my octopus. When attached to my BCD the low pressure hose has to be directed to the opposite side of where the retainer clips on my BCD are located. I'm sure this is one of the reasons it does not sit comfortably in the mouth. I have to use a hand to support it. As long as I remember this is an emergency backup I think I will become accustomed to having it there even though it's quite heavy and in the way. If it were a primary I would be extremely unhappy,...

Average reviews here only because they don't customize it.

Reading the reviews on here complaining about it being uncomfortable to use is simply fixed by extending your corrugated hose and pull dump wire/string (if using a pull dump). The Inflator hose may also need extending and this is simply done by using a quick connect/disconnect adapter brought on fleabay on a normal reg hose to suit. I personally use a BP with a venture wing and a 22" 55.9cm corrugated hose brought from divegearexpress. The reg hangs about 3-4" below the end of my shoulder strap and is in the perfect position for easy access and with this mod allows for plenty of head movement and beats the chocking feeling and visual impairment of a necklace! Rated to 50M single and 30M if your buddy's on your primary at the same time. Enjoy!

Excellent Inflator-Secondary

Worked very good. The inflator is very responsive. The secondary breather was easier to breath on than I thought it would be. Good quality product

I was looking forward to eliminating the octopus and combining my inflator with my backup air supply. It seems to work, but doesn't sit comfortably in the mouth with my BCD. The low pressure airline attaches to the unit on the opposite side that my BCD has clips to hold it. That makes it more challenging to bend toward the mouth. It is also quite heavy which seems unnecessary given the weight of octopi I have used previously. I'm trying to accept it as an emergency go to. If I had to think of this as a primary I would be very disappointed.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
PAMELA N  purchased to eliminate 1 hose from my kit by combining the inflater and octopus functions
OSCAR Z  This is the only way to go with a second/octo these days. Gone are the days of having your old octo drag on the bottom or hang up on coral. Get rid of your yellow hose and octo and get one of these, especially if you wreck dive and don't want another hose that can hang up on things, or if you like to keep a sleek profile on the reef.
THEODORE G  nice to have a back up or buddy breathe, no need to have a octapus dangling about unless on a cave dive when the 2nd setup is for total saftey. ScubaPro regs are tops. still use a Mark V since about 1985 ( updated thru the years ) and still hard to beat.
HAROLD G  The Air 2 has been my choice of a backup regulator for years. I do not like the idea of a second hose dangling off my gear, and the Air 2 simplifies my system. The Air 2 is as dependable as any other regulator and is always right at my touch.
PATRICK O  Wanted to get rid of some of the stuff that was hanging from my gear
DONN E  Desire to minimize hoses for recreational diving and ease of travel. The valve enables hose changes with any size regualtor hose.
BRIAN K  This is a great second stage if you are trying to eliminate a hose. It is a perfect match for the Scubapro Knighthawk.
PATRICIA H  It's a Scuba Pro!!!!! This was a gift for my son, I have used an Air 2 myself for years and I love the functionality of this set up, it really helps get that sleek profile in the water.
DAVID T  Quality, works great.
MARK B  Just an upgrade from the an old air 2 that I got tired of fixing... I like the reduction in hoses to deal with on my dive eqipment. It works better than the old one...
MICHAEL R  As essentially a solo diver, I've used Scubapro AIR 2's for many years as a backup regulator to streamline my rig. This was available at the right price.
Eric M  Can I put ScubaPro Air 2 on an Dive Rite TransPac XT?
WILLIAM W  You can, but you may have to go to a bit of trouble, like changing out the inflator hose on your 1st stage, and the connection of the Air-2 to the BC (the corrugated hose). I've done it, because I really like the Air-2.
Charles S  Will the Air 2 fit a Cressi Aquaride BCD?
George S  Sorry, but I do not think the ScubaPro Air2 will work with a Cress BCD (I have a Travelight.) But I do believe the Atomic SS1 will work with every major brand of BCD, I might give that a shot.
