Good so far

By NAPALM

This is my first diving hood but after five dives I'm pretty happy with it. It fit me fine without having to do any trimming and has shown no signs of wear. It has kept me warm on dives from 70 to 43 degrees.

Great hood

By Kevin

Great hood! Zipper makes it very easy to get on and off. Very comfortable and the material around the neck makes a good seal with a wetsuit reducing water movement. I have used it in water as low as around 50 degrees F and was nice and warm. Only used it a handful of times so can't comment on how it holds up but I'm very satisfied so far.

The Merino Lined Hood is the warmest hood available, and will keep a diver's head warm and comfortable in even the most severe water temperatures. Constructed from 7mm titanium lined neoprene throughout the head and neck areas, with Pinnacles patented Merino lining throughout. Merino lining adds up to 35% more thermal efficiency then standard neoprene rubber alone. Merion also does not promote the growth of bacteria, making it hygienic and reduces odor. The hood is equipped with a 3mm face seal with smooth skin seal can be trimmed to custom fit the face mask seal. Hood has an automatic vent that allows air to escape as necessary from the top of the hood while restricting water to re-enter. Donning and doffing are made easy with the gusseted rear zipper. Hood is black in color and is available in multiple sizes.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Any chance of posting a photo of the back of the hood so as I can see how far up the zip comes?
MATTHEW M  the zipper is slightly to one side and goes 3/4 way up. I do not see how to add a picture on this link but I do have a picture of it.
AARON H  The zipper ends half way up the opening for the face (but on the back, of course). Also, there is a layer of neoprene below the zipper so you can't zip up your hair or anything like that.
Shopper  I bought this hood and it fits fine once exchanged with the largest size. I am new to all this and am wondering what the reversed pocket around the neck area is for? I have not seen this on other hoods. It doesn't flip down so I am concerned it will act as a parachute. is there something on the Pinnacle Wetsuit that integrates with this? Thanks
BRUCE B  In my opinion it is an additional seal that is joined at a seal on the Pinnacle Merino suit to give a better seal. I have a pinnacle suit, but not the Merino. So it doesn't match up with my suit,
JOSEPH C R  Yes on the pinnaccle wetsuits they have a slick skin neck collar that this goes up against to create the neck seal.
ALLEN S  I think it is to form a watertight seal with the neck of a drysuit. I can't be certain since I dive wet.
MARK R  Couldn't figure it out either. I cut off the flap and it works fine. Only thing I could come up with is that the flap worked in conjunction with a specific suit. Stay warm!
Ken T  If you tuck it under your wetsuit, it will stick onto the inner layer of the wetsuit neck region, restricting water flow in and out. The design is kinda odd but it works. Just my personal thoughts.
VIN M  I kind of wondered about that as well. I'm not really sure of it's official function, but it hasn't caused any problems. I've tried rolling it over the neck of the suit with mixed results. I have not had any "drag" issues from it being there. I generally use this hood with a dry suit and tuck the bib of the hood into the external collar of the dry suit. In essence, I ignore it.
BILLY T  It is for a more water tight seal.
PATRICK G  if by reversed pocket you mean the rubber gaiter. this is to ensure a solid seal between the hood and your wetsuit regardless of brand. I have dove in this hood 50+ times now in high and low surge with not a single complaint and certainly no parachute effect as you put it. best cold water hood on the market in my opinion. happy diving
MARK V  The "pocket" is a seal itself. The Pinnacle wetsuits have the same technology, which work together (but also works with other wetsuits) and does not create any problems unless you have a skinny neck like me then it tends to bunch a little around the neck line under the wetsuit causing slight discomfort (like choking) but nothing too too bad. The hood itself is SOOO worth the money and from the other hoods that others have purchased, looks and feels superior. It does make your neck stiff when on, so you'll have to turn your body to look around. The coldest I have dove is 32 Deg F for 2-3 hours. Furthermore, you will need to release the collar of the wetsuit a little to accommodate for the hood material. The zipper is heavy duty but when zipping you should have your dive buddy zip it for you as not to catch the underlining seal. apply a little zipper wax to the zipper teeth to help lubricate and make things easier when putting on and off. Also on occasion you may have to pull the mask away from your face to allow fresh water in to cool yourself because from your chin down to your collar bone area will be really warm the longer your diving.
KEITH A  The flap acts as a seal inside a wet or dry suit. If water enters around the throat this flap should catch water causing a swelling and then forming a second seal to keep more cold water to flood the suit. This should be tucked into your suits collar to work properly.
STEVEN S  It's so your wetsuit can make a nice seal around your hood. Just make sure you tuck your hood into your wetsuit. This way the water doesn't go into your suit.
MARIA V  Hi, I got a number of pinnacle wet suits. Yes, the double flap is to be tucked into another sort of flap that is inside the wet suit neck. Keeps the whole thing in place pretty nicely and lets less water in through the neck. But many times I just tuck the whole skirt under the suit's neck without bothering to tuck flap into flap (just like I do with other suits) and its OK, I never had a problem. Hope it helps!
Jennifer C  is the sizing accurate or does it run small?
DAVEN H  Hi Jenn, i'm so sorry for answering you so late! I've just been so busy, but incase you haven't gotten the answer yet yes it does run a bit small..
JASON G  the sizing is pretty accurate, I would go and try one on at a local store to see how it will fit you. The one I purchased was based on about ten to twelve different brands that i tried on. If you have a hood all ready that size will be comparable. I love the hood w/merino lining my head stays nice and warm. I just dove this weekend in 52 degree water and was comfortable. hope this helps you.
VIN M  I found that the hood was a little tight around the jaw, but workable. Hard to say if the problem is the hood or my round face; it may also stretch a bit with time and use. On the plus side, the snug fit results in minimal water transfer.
KEITH A  Jennifer, The sizing on this hood ran true. Remember a good hood will fit snug but should not restrict circulation. The zipper makes it easier to put the hood on and off while still providing that second skin fit. Knowing your hat size and using the chart provided should ensure a good fit.
VANCE H  I think it runs a little small, I have a size 7 1/4 head which is considered on the large size for a woman, my boyfriend wears the same size and he is skinny ,
CRAIG 1  It runs true to size. I was worried about fit when I ordered but ordered according to the size chart. It came in and fit perfectly.
ROBERT B  The sizing was accurate for me and it is a great hood. I used it for diving in 45F water off Vancouver Island
KRISTIE W  The sizing is accurate and the seal around the face is awesome compared with other hoods I have.
Ken T  It runs small Plus it's hard to tuck under your wetsuit and the back tends to come off in the middle of the dive. I'm returning it.
JOHN H  My experience was that it ran a little bit small........not much, but just a little snug.
FRANK N  Hey it is dead on fits perfect...
PATRICK G  the sizing is accurate. though I would recommend going into a shop and confirming sizing. this hood has been great. at most they run a half size small compared to a generic size chart. don't forget leisure pro garuntees the sizing. if its not right they will change it out
Shopper  Does it really have a zipper? I don't see a zipper.
LeisurePro S  Yes, this has a zipper--it is a brand new product. This is an older stock photo.
Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
MINNY P  Merino wool on the interior and a zip to make getting the hood on easier were selling points.
Gregg B  I hate hoods but this one has the vent on top which makes it bearable. If it's really cold you gotta have this
PATRICK G  because pinnacle kicks ass. duh
