About Omer Cayman Sport Speargun

The Excalibur Sport spear gun series is the evolution of Omersub classic Excalibur speargun which was first introduced on the market at the end of the 1990s. The Sport features a shaft made in PR80 steel and standard wishbone. The most important improvement on the Excalibur spearguns, compared to their predecessor, is certainly the muzzle which has been derived from the aluminum made muzzle developed for the Aluminum speargun. The muzzle has been reinforced in some parts but has maintained the same basic advantages. Having used Nylon 66with 50% fiber glass to inject mold this part, we were able to not compromise its structure and still maintain the hydrodynamics of the aluminum made muzzle.

The new muzzle can be used on all spear guns featuring a barrel with an internal diameter of 25.6mm (Omer aluminum barrels) or 25.0 mm (Omer carbon fiber barrels)

The muzzle features a small stainless steel clip inserted in the bottom part. This clip allows the reel line to pass through after shooting, without any interference. The assembly on the barrel is done with a pin manufactured in a highly technical plastic material called Grivory GV5H. This material allows the pin to be as resistant as metal pin but avoiding the usual oxidation. The triggering mechanism is the classic Omersub Frictionless Release. Thanks to a small wheel working on the trigger, the release of shafts is very smooth and precise. The mechanism also features an automatic line releaser. As an alternative to the automatic system, the line can also be positioned on the bottom of the handle in the more classic crocodile mouth. Finally, the handle also features a guide for plastic and aluminum reels. The Excalibur features a 28 mm dia. anodized aluminum barrel in the dimensions indicated. On the barrel, you will find an adjustable plastic shaft guide which is usually positioned closer to the handle, to increase the shooting precision.

Comments about Omer Cayman Sport Speargun:

This is a great first speargun for reef hunting. It is set up identically to most euro guns, which is the setup I perfer. I added a second band without changing the muzzle and changed the wishbone to dynema. I also added a stick on rail. Now this gun is as powerful and accurate as a much more expensive one. I've been using it for a couple of years and the barrel doesn't bend. It is a good inexpensive gun to learn with and easy to modify (and learn how to modify).

Comments about Omer Cayman Sport Speargun:

I got the 90. I guess it's what you'd expect from a cheap gun. The shaft is thin and flimsy, it started bending the first time I used it. Not much range with the one band, and as far as I know you can't add another without replacing the muzzle. The muzzle is closed; I opened it to make it more accurate but it makes it a little difficult to load. On the plus side, this is really light and versatile gun. It's really easy to turn with it in the water; my main gun is a 48" custom wood build and I'd almost prefer the Omer on reefs and rocks because it's easier to swing around quickly.

However, what really makes me not want to recommend this gun is the wishbone. It's an articulated wishbone (metal), and I can't get it to stay attached to the bands. Probably the fourth or fifth time I had the gun in the water, the wishbone started disconnecting from one of the bands when I tried to load the gun. As a result, the thin metal wishbone would snap back towards the muzzle of the gun, often with my fingers in the way. After getting nicked up several times, I took the gun into a shop and got the wishbone replace. Now, THIS wishbone started doing the same thing (although I think it's a faulty wishbone and not because of the gun).

All in all, I'd say save up and get something of more quality.

    Questions about this item:

Shopper  Is the Cayman Sport the same as the Omer Excalibur Sport, just the Cayman is the newer version?
PIETER C  Omer Excalibur is a cheapo version. Mine lasted till one big fish. No fish on the bag, speargun came apart. Be careful what you get.
Shopper  On this gun is it hard to pull the bands back?
JEREMY H  On the regular Cayman 75 it is but not on the sport.
Shopper  How big of fish can you spear with this?
JEREMY H  I use it for spadefish, sheepshead, triggers, tautog. Im sure you could shoot something bigger.
