Does this valve replaces my octopus? It would be great if I don't have to carry a second mask with me. Thanks.
Ronald C
No it definately does not!!! This valve allows you to breath normal air at surface and not use up your tank air.
MARTIN W
No it does NOT. This valve allows you to open it and breath fresh air at the surface. This allows you to keep the mask on at the surface without continuing to consume air from your tank(s).
Tucker K
This valve takes one of the two ports on the mask. I have this valve on the left side of the mask and an octo on the right.
HENRY A
No. The valve is opened on the surface, allowing you to breathe normally, so you don’t waste air from your tank unnecessarily. Replacing a snorkel sort of, but you face has to be out of the water.

The valve does not replace your octopus. It allows you to breathe from your mask without using air from your tank when you are at the surface.
Carl K
Hi ... no it does not. It replaces the current valve cover which is essentially just a cover. By replacing with a SAV, it will allow you to open the port and breath ambient air so you are not using up you tank air while for example sitting on the boat. Additionally, you can open it while floating on the surface and I've found little to no water comes in ... sort of a snorkel replacement. Be CAREFUL opening it too far! It will screw right off.
To use the port as an octopus, you would have to mount a whole 2d stage to the port. FAR more cost-efficient and effective to just carry the extra mask ... I picked up a mask case for ~$14 and just hook it on one of the lower D-rings on the BC.

This valve is for breathing air at the surface instead of draining air from your cylinder. There are times at the surface you may be hanging out with your mask on, waiting for others. Opening the valve lets you breath air without using air from the tank. Otherwise you'd be sucking air from the cylinder. Carry that spare mask my friend. Chin up!
MATT S
That valve is for breathing on land or when you surface and waiting for a boat if your low on air. you will need the second mask if you need to remove the full face in a emergency.
Look up the Emergency protocol for wearing a full face mask if could save your life
I always keep a mask in my pocket just in case
George G
No, the valve let you to breath on the surface with out using the air form your tanks. I'm carrying the second mask all the time. Two days ago my quick connect failed, air was escaping and water was getting it. I had to remove it and use octo with regular mask. Apparently quick connect was not tight enough.
Jacob E
No it doesn’t it simply allows you to breath on the surface with out using your tank air. You open it on the surface and you breathe “regular” air and close it before going under water and breath tank air.
BRUCE S
NO This Valve replaces the need for a snorkel it's only purpose is to conserve air while on the surface hence the name (surface air valve). You will still need your Octo incase of an emergency at depth. If you open this valve under water you will fill your mask with water.
LUCAS P
This is so you breath from the ambient air while at the service. You close it prior to descending and there is a separate hole for an Octo port.
RONALD Q
This valve does not replace your octopus. This valve allows you to breathe surface air when open so that you do not continuously breathe from your tank. It is great when suited up on a boat waiting to get in the water.

Surface air valve is for breathing on top, there is an adapter that goes in that port and allows a second regulator to attach to the mask
Adrian M
Yes, that is what I am looking for. trying to avoid to have to carry a second mask. Do you know what the adapter is called?
BRENT V
Octopus port, on oceanreefs website it’s there if you search for it, MSRP is 39.99
Adrian M
Thanks. That is great but now I am thinking that if my buddy needs air I wouldn't be able to share my octopus.
BRENT V
My setup has QD fittings/hoses on the line going to the ocean reef mask and my octopus, I carry a conventional mask as well for if things really went sideways. My wife who is my dive buddy has QD fittings on her octo so if I were out of air the second stage line would just be “unplugged” and her octo line plugged into my mask. I do not use the octopus port with my g divers mask. Surface air valve is too handy to not have. We have practiced this in our pool and it works well.
My wife uses a conventional 2nd stage and octo.
Your dive buddy would need QD hoses for this to work
Ceaser C
Oh ok sorry my understanding is would still have to carry another mask and if your primary fails you would still have to switch to your secondary valve. Which mains you would need the other mask.
Cuong N
No. This valve is attached to your full face mask. You open this valve when on surface so you don't used up your tank air. You will always need octopus as backup for you or your buddy.
MARK E
No it does not replace a octo.. it’s simple a fresh air vent you open when your at the surface or putting gear on the boat so your not using your tank air and saving it for the dive.. make sure you close it before you jump in or before you drop down for the dive or else your mask will flood. It’s a must have for the mask!! the original one that comes with the mask you have to unscrew the hole thing and kinda hard to put back in when your mask is on .. this one is half turn and you can breath with ease.. hope you understand this?
Ceaser C
Sorry forgot to add this allows you to leave your mask on when you surface and allows you to put it on before entering the water from boat or whatever. Just don't forget to close it when defend.
Ceaser C
That valve is what you open when you are on the surface, so you can breath open air and not use your air in your tank.
Adrian M
Thanks Ceaser. I understand that but I saw in a couple of reviews that the valve can also connect where the octopus goes so if the regulator on the full mask fails you can switch to that without replacing the mask under water.
