how is the pc interface on this computer?
A little bit finicky at first, much like my last Oceanic, but I'm quite happy with it now. The ocean log software has come a long way from where it was several years ago. I only wish they'd do a Mac compatible version...
Could be better, the software seems very old and it is impossible the change the units to meters, also it is not intuitive on the data managing.
It works well. I have two, one for me and one for my wife, and when I tried to save the second computer's information, it did not save, so I did something wrong. I have not had time to try again, but if you only have one, I know it will be easy to learn and use.
USB connection to PC connected right up. Read the support for the correct USB driver for your OS and it connects right up. Oceanic dive log is a good program. Easy to setup and use. I haven't use a log book since I purchased the VT3 combo. I rate it a 4 out of 5 only because of the export feature. No export ALL dives to a single xlsx. But yes I like it.
The interface is simple plug & play on Windows. It is easlily installed and works well. The software cold be a little bit better in allowing more defaults, i.e., if you make say 25 dives in Bonaire, be more time-saving not to have to re--enter the much of the data over and over.
This comes with a specialized interface cable (USB), the end going into the dive computer is proprietory...at least I have never seen one like it. So I would be carelful not to lose track of it
Be sure to take advantage of the online class and you can watch and do at the same time. It sure beats trying to read the manual.
I have made about 50 dives over last two years and no battery replacement.
I have the VT4 but Iknow that the software is the same since I have upgraded from a VTPro from over 5 years ago. There is a learning curve but the reason I use it is to get some hidden information that the "Log" screens don't show you (i.e. graphs, rates, depths ect). I disigned my custom dive log pages to record the information that I want on paper from what the software provides. I do use the backup feature though.
I have found that at least with my unit, I cannot connect the unit via the UBS while the wrist computer is at all wet, the VT will not go into PC mode, but if you are able to dry it or wait then it will work. I did also have to - at first - reinstall the driver for the unit a couple of times.
Since I have figured this all out I have not been frustrated and become more relaxed about getting that day's dives out.
FYI- I have mine set at 2 sec intervals which records about 8 dives (at average 60 minutes each).
I was upgraded to the VT 4 when I ordered this. The computer interface was fine. I used it when I first got the computer. I have not used it since. I found the computer hard to learn and had to use the free online help. Also the strap latch has broken. Tech support by Oceanic is excellent. Keep your receipt from Leisure pro.
Ok computer. Not too simple at first. The band has broken on three different models. It's alright overall, I'd choose a different computer if i could again though
The computer interface is straightforward and works well. The installation of the software was easy. I like the ability to graph the dives and the amount of data that can be entered for each dive is excellent.
Sorry, just got it for Christmas , and have not used it yet
I use a Mac OSX computer to download and manage my dives. This program syncs with my iPhone app made by the same company. Beyond a Mac, I can only say my PC friends use programs and drivers that come with or are downloadable from manufacture.
