Comments about Oceanic VEO 3.0 Computer SWIV Double Gauge Combo:

The Oceanic Veo 3.0 dive computer has nice big numbers I can read without a prescription mask or diopters. It's also very reliable, with no problems to date. I am a bit concerned by a low-battery reading I got after 28 dives/20 hours, but the lo-batt icon has since gone away. I'll get it checked out when I send my whole setup to LP for annual servicing this fall. I like the SWIV console with SPG, tho' I must admit I've never even glanced at the thermometer at the bottom of the gauge face. My big mistake was not getting the optional QD when I bought it. After a couple of dives, I had it added on a visit to LP's showroom. Now I can just twist the whole console free after diving and take it with me to log dives while the rest of the reg setup is drying or hanging in the locker waiting for the next dive. I slip the console into a neoprene beer coozy while traveling, and then I've always got a coozy handy when I'm on the boat! I wish the Veo 3.0 were a bit more intuitive. Even though I've taken the online course, I still have to hunt around to change settings before dives. I also wish it gave up and down times for each dive, instead of just down and elapsed times. The variable ascent readout is a great way to learn to slooooow down those ascents. And even though I use the most conservative logarithm, the Veo still consistently posts significantly longer NDCLs than my Scubapro Xtender wrist comupter, which I use as my backup. (The Xtender is just ultraconservative when compared with other divers' computers, too.) Finally, if you own a Mac, like me, I'd skip the download cable for now, until Oceanic gets its act together and offers dive log software that can run native to the OSX platform.
