About Oceanic VEO 1.0

The Oceanic VEO 1.0 is a Solid Basic Dive Computer designed for Air or Single Gas NITROX Mixes up to 50%. It Displays Only-Essential Information during the Dive in Easy-to-Read Digits; uses Effective-Bar Graphs to present Nitrogen Loading and Ascent Rate; and offers useful features like an Automatic Safety Stop Countdown Timer that ticks off three minutes when you ascend to 15' (4.6 meters). A Single Push Button is all that's required to Navigate-the-Settings and the Sequences are Intuitive with help from the Excellent Owner's Manual and Waterproof Prompt Card. At this price point, you are giving up bells and whistles--most notably audible alarms, a backlight and the ability to download dive profiles--but these are excellent choices if you want a simple, low-cost computer.

The Oceanic VEO 1.0 is powered by Oceanic's Exclusive Dual Algorithm - Your choice between Pelagic DSAT (Spencer/Powell data basis) or Pelagic Z+ (Buhlmann ZHL-16C data basis). The Computer is Water and/or Manually Activated, provides Time of Day Display in a 12 or 24 hour Format, will Automatically Adjust for Altitude Diving from 2,000' to 14,000' (610 to 4,200 meters) and has a 24 Hour Time to Fly Countdown Function. The Computer has a 12 Dive-On-Unit-Log Capacity, Pre-Dive Planning Sequence Function, provides Temperature and can be set for Imperial or Metric Units of Measure.

The Oceanic VEO 1 Computer has a Deep Stop Option, Decompression Capability for 10' to 60' (3 to 18 meters), Variable Ascent Rate Function, Nitrogen Tissue Loading Bar Graph, Numeric Percentage Oxygen Loading, O2 Time Remaining and is equipped with a User-Replaceable CR 2450 Battery with an 8-Second Hot-Swap" Function to Retain Calculations during a Battery Change. The Computers Operation Depth is 330' (100 meters). The Oceanic VEO 1.0 Wrist Dive Computer comes with a Digital Online Class and is covered by a 60 month limited Warranty.

Changing Battery is NOT Easy

Let me start by saying that, for someone with good eyesight in the daytime in clear water, this is probably all the computer you need for recreational diving. Thus, it gets 3 stars to begin with. I bought two last winter: wrist mount for me and console for my wife. We have probably 50 dives on them now--Cozumel, Galapagos and Grand Turk. My wife loves hers--I am somewhat ambivilent. I would like to see slightly larger depth and dive time numbers, but that is just the way it is, I guess. ...

Wrist Computer

By

from Valley Springs, CA, US

Being a wrist device provided location flexibility which was soooo much better than on a console. Slight learning curve - But took out the guess work and figuring tables. This unit worked better than expected for multiple dives and staying out of decomp status. The only 'not positive' feature is no backlight. At night it was still easy to see as most people use a light at night - Just Saying! For the Price and Leisure Pro's excellent service, I am very satisfied!

Great backup computer

By

Very nice and simple. Does not have illumination which limits its usefulness. I use it as a backup computer to my ProPlus 3. Overall a nice setup for a new duvet or as a backup.

I did find the absense of a back-light, or even a glow screen, a handicap in night dives while balancing a camera and trying to read my depth. I guess the main computer is pretty much standard, but be wary of replacing the battery. You have to twist off a pressure plate that just doesn't want to let go. Once that is off, everything just falls out. To re-seal the battery, you have to hold a clear cap with the o-ring down forecefully over the battery, while simultaneously turning the pressure plate to snap it in. Invariably, the o-ring will slip off the cap and the cap will squirt sideways before you can snap in the pressure plate. Then you start over--and over--and over again. I worked on this thing for more than an hour before I was confident about taking it underwater (correction: I was so irritated that I didn't care if the dam thing flooded, so I just went with it). So why was I replacing the battery after less than 50 dives over a 5 month period? Because it ran out. My wife's is still running fine, so that probably means I got one with a battery that was already run down. I could not see any evidence that I got a pre-owned computer, but one wonders....

A very intuitive computer

By

A very easy to use computer. The functions are intuitive, and I felt that the single button was an asset.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
PAUL H  I own 3 of these computers. Have had issues with all of them. Customer service thru Oceanic has been good. But not worth the hassle
HARRY C  Excellent price; easy to read; self change battery
PHIL S  I didn't. I ordered two of the VEO 100 and I received two of these instead. While it's a good computer, I much prefer the VEO 100
Eric W  If I do a nitrox dive and have a surface interval, what happens if I don't re-enter the oxygen percentage? My Data Max resets to 50% oxygen for partial pressure calculations and 21% for nitrox calculations.
Frank L  If default is ON, it reverts to 50% 10 minutes after the dive. If Default is OFF, it reverts to the last setting used.
Eric W  Thanks. I like the idea that I can set the default.
Ian W  I went past my deco stop and my veo 1 locked me out. I took battery out and back in and still locked out. How do I fix it?
CHARLES G  I have put my Veo into deco but have not missed a stop so I haven't seen this. The Veo is fairly forgiving but will lock out for 24 hrs by going into violation gauge mode. I suspect the violation mode is held in memory so that it doesn't allow the power down reset or you didn't leave the battery out long enough. I'm sure you know this but I feel obligated to tell you that resetting a dive computer that went into violation mode is not a good practice unless you enjoy chamber rides. I've found the veo to be quite liberal on par with some of my technical diving computers so be careful. Chuck
ALBIE S  try leaving the battery out for a longer period of time. If that does not work you will have to wait 24 hours to be cleared to continue diving. I have definitely had it reset after popping out the battery.
Frank L  This will clear after 24 hours.
