This was a replacement for my original compass. Direct fit no issues, just hope this one stays together.

The SWIV is a dual-purpose compass. The convenient side scan window allows quick reference of large, easy-to-read bearing indicators on a luminescent display for gun-sight accuracy. Or, for divers who prefer relative navigation, the ratchet bezel can be rotated easily even with thick neoprene gloves.
The luminous dial of the SWIV is designed with a half black / half luminous graphic to make quick work of compass direction, especially in dim light. The dial rests on a precision jeweled bearing and incorporates extremely strong magnets for super quick response and accuracy. While the SWIV module itself is very compact, the housing has a large vertical interior allowing viewing angles that would stop other compasses in their tracks. The compass 360 rotating bezel has compass headings in 30 numbered increments and indicator marks for every 10. Bezel has twin heading indicators for alignment of compass course, and a lubber line across the compass face.

There is no place to connect this to a Pro Plus X. Since the "X" is built with a really nice digital compass, this is not considered necessary or offered as an option.

look for the 2 tork screws (star shape tool) underneath the compass. DO NOT remove the screws in the front of the computer as it will break the gasket seal. Once you have removed the two screws, exert a bit of force upwards (not too much force, it will break the compass boot). If it does not come off, I had that happen to me, shake it back and fourth a bit until is loose, then remove it. Hope this helps

you just pull (hard). I used a flat-bladder screw-driver to get under the sight-glass. The compass is held in place by a semi-flexible ring of plastic. It has a groove which 'mates' with a ridge in the plastic and keeps it in place.

I was in a similar buying/shopping situation a while back. I am not 100% sure that your anticipated compass perfectly fits the regualator that you have. But I think that it does. So why not buy the compass and if it does not go into place perfectly return it as the "wrong" size.
There is a curve ball in fitting it together but once you figure it out, it was easy and is attached very well.

If the compass is for the same model computer - pro plus 2.1 then yes. the compass replaces the top handle - as i recall it does come with instructions. If not it replaces the top handle - with the compass in your hand any screws / attachments should be obvious.

what is the difference between the datamax, the pro plus 2 and the pro plus 2.1?

The datamax was the original computer in this series many years ago. Recently the pro plus 2 was updated to the 2.1, with this update they added increased memory to log dive data with, made the computer firmware upgradable, and gave the computer data retention during a battery change so you won't loose decompression data if you have to swap the battery.
