Therefore the force required to open the valve farther as flow increases is less than that required for a mechanically balanced second stage with a higher rate spring So the total effort to breathe the pneumatically balanced second stage is indeed less The spring force must be just enough to overcome the difference between downstream air pressure and upstream balance chamber pressure The downstream air travels through a hole in the poppet into the balance chamber and applies an "upstream" force just slightly less than the downstream force Ergonomic A V S (Adjustable VENTURI System) Dive/Pre-Dive Switch designed to be unobtrusive, yet easily manipulated even with the thickest gloves, the A V S deflector vane found in the NEO either diverts airflow from the valve to the mouthpiece, producing effortless VENTURI-assisted inhalation or creates enough resistance to prevent free flow on the surface The NEO was designed using the latest 3-D computer modeling techniques This allows Oceanic the ability to model and test performance while still in the early stages of development. The second stage is made from advanced composite materials ABS/Polycarbonate for rugged durability and light weight Oceanic's lightest second stage at only 5.7oz (161.6g) without the hose. The NEO second stage has an Orthodontic Mouthpiece, 30" (76.2 cm) 3/8" Threaded MAXFLEX Hose and In-Line Swivel that all produce Minimal Jaw Fatigue no matter the length of the dive.
The FDX10 offers a Balanced Diaphragm and is made of Forged Chromed Marine Brass. The Balanced Diaphragm, First Stage Regulator is inherently Environmentally Sealed. The benefit of this type of First Stage design is that none of the Delicate Internal Parts are Exposed-to-Contaminants such as Salt, Sand, Chlorine or Pool Acids. These Environmental Contaminants can cause Corrosion and Mineral Deposits to form on the Internal Mechanism Deteriorating Regulator Performance. A Diaphragm First Stage Regulator requires Less-Maintenance then Regulators that allow the Contaminates to enter the Internal Mechanism.

In addition the FDX10 First Stage Regulator has a Secondary Diaphragm to completely Seal-Off the Main Spring Cavity. A Sealed.A Sealed Balanced Diaphragm design; ENVIRO Kit and Patented DRT (Dry Regulator Technology) Isolate the Main Spring Cavities Internal Components from the Environment. It also means the FDX10 is excellent for Ice Diving (it won't freeze up) or Diving in Waters Filled-with-Contaminants or Sediment (it won't corrode). First Stage has 4 Low Pressure (LP) and 2 High Pressure (HP) Ports. FDX-10 features optimized air paths and angled hose ports for superior performance and comfort. Regulator comes with an owner's manual and is covered by a 24 month limited warranty.

I love this regulator. I don't like 2nd stages with manual inhalation adjustments which this doesn't have. It breathes effortlessly and easy at every depth and in every position. Lightweight 2nd stage and very comfortable mouthpiece. Seems to be ruggedly built and should last a long time. Environmentally sealed for cold water diving. For me this is the perfect regulator.
