B.U.D. is a Universal Backup Dive Computer that uses Dual Algorithm Technology allowing you to adjust your dive computer's settings to closely match just about any other dive computer on the market making it the perfect backup device. You should never have to use it, but if you do need it, your B.U.D. will be there to save your next dive. This new Dive Computer is a must for every diver to carry because no matter what computers you are using, you will be able to set your B.U.D. to closely match any computers profile using the Oceanic Patented DUAL ALGORITHM.

Oceanic's new B.U.D. offers Dual Algorithm Technology, letting you choose the Decompression Algorithm that best suits your diving needs without compromising safety. This Algorithm relies on the Human Doppler Studies used to develop PADI's Recreational Dive Planner (RDP), and has been the basis of Oceanic's and other manufacturer's Computer Algorithms for many years. Choose Pelagic Z+ for More-Conservative Recreational Diving. When applied to Standard Recreational Diving, the Pelagic Z+ Algorithm basis Increases the Conservative Factor of the B.U.D. by 15-20 %

The Large Easy-to-Read Display makes Monitoring-your-Dive-Profile Quick-and-Reliable Computer can aid NITROX Diving up to 50%, has a Safety Stop Count Down, Conservative Factor Setting, Adjustable Units of Measure, Time to Fly/De-Saturation and has a Long Life CR2450 Lithium User Replaceable Battery. Does the bare minimum

As an Instructor I don't always really need a computer, so I gave up my dedicated computer for my wife to use and decided to start beta testing an iphone based dive computer (scuba capsule). Anyway, I didn't want to lose a day of diving in the event of an issue with that solution so I opted for the BUD. It's similar to the other Oceanics I've used and with a nice easy to read display. I'm less than impressed with the "log" feature, you can only go back to your most recent dive, no ability to ...

Why?

I think Mares Puck will do better job for less money and more functions! So my question is: Why would anyone want to have this thing?

..good back up..

By

from oakland, CA, US

..we are pretty happy with these ..for what they are..as others have said you can buy a cheap Nitrox computer as backup for about the same money..these are small, and clip nicely to the BC. Also, they hold only 12 dives... so, if you dont time out surface interval..it will keep going untill you go back to dive one..so rather than saying dive 13 or 15 it starts over..this happens to me on dive trips..

Should be renamed D.U.D.

By

It is a poorly crafted "throwaway" device. It sucks battery power quickly requiring you to carry a spare battery. There is no dive memory other than the last one! This computer should be selling for 1/4 its current asking price to better reflect what you get in exchange. For $5 more you can purchase a much better computer from several other vendors.

Good little backup

By

I bought this because my very old Oceanic console computer flooded after many years of use. I did some carving on the console and fit this into my console. My primary computer is a wrist mounted Oceanic Geo, which I love. This is a great backup, but it will not log your dives, so it is somewhat limited. I am a fan of Oceanic computers.

Questions about this item:

JOHN W  Is the Oceanic BUD computer wireless or hose connected?
KATHY B  The Oceanic BUD computer runs on a battery. It does not connect to a hose. It doesn’t connect to anything. You simply clip it on your BC or put it in a pocket. It is a back-up computer, not a primary computer. It doesn’t tell you how much air you have.
KATHY B  The Oceanic BUD computer uses a battery. It does not connect to a hose. It does not connect to anything. You simply clip it on your BC or put it in a pocket. It is a back-up computer. It is not a primary computer.
JANICE B  It is not integrated
CHRISTOPHER C  Standalone, bud, beach underwater device, not a primary computer, use as a backup
Robert S  It isn't connected at all. This is a back-up computer, but it is not air-integrated. If your primary fails during a dive, this would help you ascend safely and would keep track of your subsequent surface interval, but it isn't going to tell you how much air you have left.
JOHN W  Thanks for the response
GEORGE J  Neither. It is not integrated with your breathing gas, just your depth. You enter your %Oxygen, and it calculates the rest based on your dive profile.
Robert S  The BUD does not keep track of your air supply. It is not connected to your tank at all. If your primary computer fails, this computer will give you your current depth, help with your rate of ascent, and keep track of your surface interval after your dive, but if you have no SPG, the BUD won't help.
MICHAEL C  No hose. Works as advertised. Great product and I would buy it again. mike
Shopper  How to access past dives?
KEVIN F  This product is intended as a back up computer. It only allows access to the last dive. It does not store multiple dives in a digital log. http://www.oceanicworldwide.com/us/computers/bud-1924/
Jim R  We are looking for a good - easy to use - back-up dive computer. What models/brands do you recommend and why?
GEORGE J  The Oceanic B.U.D is a great companion to any other Oceanic and even some other brands. It has a selectable algorithm that helps to match it with your computer. I also have an Oceanic VT3 and it works great alongside it.
Frank L  This works great as a backup dive computer.
KENNETH L  I have had the Oceanic BUD for about one year and it has done everything that I would want in a back up computer. It is small. light weight, yet provides all the functionality you need. The only down side was the battery died after just 10 months, but this could be an anomaly.
AARON K  The Oceanic B.U.D. Is a solid backup computer. My wife and I both use Oceanics as our primary computers, so the algorithms are the same. The B.U.D. can be adjusted between two algorithms depending on how conservative you want to be. It is small, lightweight, and can be clipped on a D-ring or stashed in a BC pocket. It has a simple, one-button interface for changing between screens, adjusting for nitrox, etc. It doesn't log multiple dives, but we rely on our main computers for that anyway. It was specifically designed as a backup computer and it performs as advertised.
JOHN S  It is simple to use but dosnt store a lot of dive info. My mares puck air died my first day in Bonaire so I was glad I had it. I used it all week as my main computer John
KENSETT M  Doesn't get any easier or better.
