About Mares Rover Octopus

This medium-size octopus made of techno-polymer features a cover made of soft material so that the purge button is easy to push. All Mares second stages are a reliable downstream valve design and offer the unique patented Vortex Assisted Design (VAD) system. The air bypass tube conveys air to the mouthpiece creating a swirling vortex with a low pressure area in the center that keeps the diaphragm down during inhalation, for very sensitive and easy breathing at all depths.

The second stage cover features the new "mesh-grid" system for water inflow and outflow, which provides a further performance improvement. The patented mesh design of the second stage cover reduces the pressure of water flowing onto the regulators diaphragm and minimizes free-flow. Even in a strong current it eliminates the need for a knob to de-tune your air delivery system- advance technology through basic physics.Mares Rover Octopus incorporates the Fluid Dynamic Deflector, developed after in-depth studies and tests of fluid dynamics, is engineered to receive and properly direct the airflow from the bypass tube to the mouthpiece. Combined with the VAD system it delivers very natural and effortless breathing. Mares Rover Octopus comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

I used this as My Octo and I use the Prestige as My Main both are great... what Made Me fall in love with this is My Girlfriend has Asthma and she talked me into showing her My underwater world..so I had her wrap her legs around Me while holding on to My BCD we went down to 17 feet and she said while breathing off My Octo she felt as if she was laying down relaxing and more important she felt a freedom she never felt before now if it is good enough for her to trust it I am sold now only using...

40 dives and going!

By

from Hoi An, Hoi An, VN

Really enjoy the sizing and flow of this unit. I have logged over 40 dives and it is just a work horse. I really am enjoying knowing that i have a solid product and that I am just diving instead of worrying about the durability of my gear!

I've logged about 30 dives since getting this reg. All dives off Cali in 50-70 degree water, depts to about 90'. Absolutely effortless breathing, and no issues with free-flowing. Very happy with this product.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
Rob D  Price and service from Leisure Pro!
Shopper  How long can you stay underwater with this device?
BONY C  All time
BYRON L  It is a backup regulator, so the correct answer would be "only long enough to safely surface. If you are going to use it as your primary regulator, then technically to no less than 800 psi in a standard dive cylinder.
SEAN H  I'm not sure that this shopper understands how SCUBA works. The equipment you use does not dictate how long you can stay underwater. Your dive time is a function of the volume of air you dive with (tank size, one tank vs. two tanks, re-breather?), the depth and time spent at depth (10 minutes at 90 feet consumes considerably more air than 10 minutes at 30 feet), and your compression time (time spent at depths vs. surface time allowing for off-gassing). This particular device will not allow you to stay under water for more or less time.
SEAN H  In looking at the other two responses, it's possible I've misinterpreted the question. If the question is "how long can I use this in the event that I have to use my backup breather?", then I think Byron and Frank give good answers. If the equipment is maintained and in good shape, it should function as well as the primary, but if it is being used in an emergency situation, then you should not continue to dive, you should safely surface.
FRANK M  I've trained new divers with it and it works great. In theory, you can breath underwater as long as its working properly. It's yellow as that's more distinctly used for back-up regs and not a primary.
Shopper  Anybody experienced free flowing with this octo before?
SEAN H  My wife has this as her secondary breather, and too my knowledge we've hardly used it outside of safety testing. We've not had a problem, but it's new and we have very little dive time actually breathing out of this. Her primary reg is an Atomic Aquatics Z2 Reg, which she loves. I can't imagine this is too helpful, but figured I would offer it up.
HECTOR P  Been with one for almost a year. No problem with it!
DAVID S  I have had no issues with the octo. it breathes great and only got better after my annual service.
BYRON L  I have not had any problems at all with this regulator. It has worked well for me on many dives.
