About Mares Puck Wrist Computer

Like to wear your computer on your wrist the new Puck series computers are perfect for those in need of pure ease. The Puck is a full function RGBM dive computer with larger digits for easy reading and backlight on demand, single button to smoothly scroll through the menu options. Keep on your wrist or pop into one of the Puck consoles for maximum mounting options.

The Puck 2 Computer uses Mares-Wienke RGBM (Reduced Gradient Bubbles Model) algorithm. The RGBM takes into account the phenomenon of micro-bubbles in order to prevent their formation. In over 10,000 real dives monitored by Dr. Bruce Wienke in the Los Alamos laboratories, the formation of micro-bubbles has been studied and evaluated in order to better understand the mechanism behind how micro-bubbles are formed during a dive. Today it is the most evolved algorithm for reducing the formation of micro-bubbles without compromising dive times.

The easy excess push buttons allow the diver to operate the computer in all conditions, even when wearing thick gloves. Navigating through the computer programs is extremely simple and very intuitive. There are three special function modes of Air, Nitrox and Bottom Time. The Mission Puck 2 Console has a maximum depth display of 492' (150 meter), a memory capacity of 38 hours, runs on a user replaceable 3 Volt CR2450 lithium battery, power indicator, back lighting for low light conditions, has a plan mode display, can be used in both imperial or metric units, fresh or seawater settings, residual nitrogen reset, option to exclude audible alarms and uncontrolled ascents", has an ascent rate indicators and is altitude adjustable. The Puck also has a watch, date and temperature functions. The Puck has an optional USB interface for logging dives on your PC, SKU: MRSPCNMW PC Interface.

The Puck knows that not all of us who dive are young and in peak condition, it address this with precautionary program settings that allow individual adjustment to more conservative dive profiles if needed. When you do multi-level, multiple dives during a single day or multiple dives over several days you can choose different setting levels in order to adjust your computer to a more conservative dive profile.

The Puck has superior display readability. In order to offer an easy-to-read display Mares produced a wide computer display, with intense backlighting and high contrast. The computer featuring illuminated, oversized digits. Special attention is paid to maximize the viewing angle, to eliminate angular distortion and to always grant the best readability. Puck Wrist comes with a User Manual and has a 24 month limited warranty.

Here's my mini review of the Mares Puck:
firstly all of the needed information is nicely and uncluttered-ly displayed, with clear bold digits which are very easy to read, even from an angle.
Operating the Puck is very straight forward- one button makes for all the function you need when a short press moves forward on the menu and a long one selects.
I've read the manual once, set my initial parameters, and than never had to consult with it again. Since than I've managed to switch from Air to Nitrox on the fly, including specifying the exact mix of course, I've easily managed to set conservative parameters and accessing the log book function post dive is easy as well. It has a nice backlight option which is useful on night dives. It has an easy to use accent rate monitor with alarm. It's pretty easy to understand when it goes into safety stops and just how long you have left before deco. It's battery replaceable. It has a dive simulator in case you need it.
I've had some concern regarding just how conservative the algorithm is after reading a little bit in some relevant forums but in reality hadn't encountered a situation when it came into play and I felt limited in any way.
I can easily recommend it.

Use as a back up only. Really small viewing screen with small digits to match. Would not recommend for poor lighting or main system. Didn't want to be somewhere without a computer so I got this for the price ([$]). Strap is way too long, even for a 7mm. Extra dangles (safety hazard) I really don't want to cut it either. I ended up attaching it too my BC for easy accessability.

Bought this DC for each of my sons to replace some older DCs and very happy with them. Reasonable algorithm for our Rec use. Very intuitive user interface. Alarms for fast ascent if you raise your arm to quickly according to both of my sons. Overall very happy after 8 dives.

    • Does Not Show Weak Batter

Comments about Mares Puck Wrist Computer:

You can not use this computer as a sole instrument when diving. It failed even after new battery put in
There is no indicator for the battery life span
I suggest to always carry a spare "good" battery with your dive. I learned the hard way

I found the puck to be very easy to use. With only oe button to access all the functions it is very uncomplicated. The screen is easy to read especially for older eyes. I've only used it 3 times so far this year but I really like it so far. Well worth the cost.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

          Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
albert s  I chose this because it is 1. from a good company 2. inexpensive 3. has one button 4. got good reviews 5. will dive from a boat and multiple dives make a computer useful gear. After 1000+ dives in Carmel California I have not needed one of these, because 1. kelp forests are not deeper than 70' 2. I don't do multiple dives (50F water year round) Now I will dive the Florida deeper reefs from a boat so this is good to have.
Shopper  Will the unit display current depth in feet and water temp in F vs C ?
LANCE R  yes, it has been a very reliable computer for me.
Shopper  Will this puck fit into a standard size console? Do you know the diameter?
Frank L  There is no such thing as a standard size console. Every manufacturer makes a specific console for their computers and/or gauges. It is approximately 2.5 inches in diameter.
