About Mares Prestige 12S Regulator

Excellent performance without a high price, incorporating all the features that make Mares regulators stand out from the rest Mares Prestige 12S is a compact regulator with stylish design, strengthened by the ultimate technologies to provide steady, natural and effortless breathing.

The first stage is a balanced diaphragm design in a chromed marine grade brass body with the Tri-material Valve. The "Tri-material" valve is a patented innovation, conceived and created to optimize performance, safety, and reliability over time for Mares MRT first stages. During operation, the high-pressure valve is subjected to various stresses. In traditional valves, these stresses, combined with extreme usage conditions, can cause premature wear of the valve with a consequent drop in reliability, performance, and safety. After careful study of the forces involved, the pressures that act on the surfaces of the valve, and the usage conditions to which it is subjected, Mares has created the new "Tri-material" valve (brass, soft polyurethane, and "heavy duty" polyurethane), found today on all Mares MRT first stages.

This innovative technical solution guarantees maximum performance, safety, and durability for Mares first stages. The exclusive MARES DFC system featured minimizes the intermediate pressure drop which occurs in all regulators during the inhalation phase. This pressure drop is greater when higher airflow is demanded of the regulator. The DFC system substantially reduces breathing effort and inhalation resistance, especially during deep dives and under high air flow conditions.

The second stage Vortex Assist Design (V.A.D.) system: all Mares second stages offer the unique patented VAD system. The air bypass tube conveys air to the mouthpiece creating a swirling vortex with a low pressure area in the center this keeps the diaphragm down during inhalation, giving very sensitive and easy breathing at all depths.

The second stage cover features the new "mesh-grid" system for water inflow and outflow, which provides a further performance improvement. Furthermore, the compact and ergonomic exhaust tee ensures superior hydrodynamic performance and reduced exhalation resistance. Mares Prestige second stage incorporates the Fluid Dynamic Deflector, developed after in-depth studies and tests of fluid dynamics, is engineered to receive and properly direct the airflow from the bypass tube to the mouthpiece. Combined with the VAD system it delivers very natural and effortless breathing. All enclosed in a lightweight Techno-Polymer housing.

Mares developed the Super flex hose after many years of testing and research. The results achieved far surpassed the tests required by EN250. Hose is extremely light weight and exceptionally soft, guaranteeing the maximum freedom of movement and reducing jaw fatigue. Superflex hose is 3/8" Threaded hose and is 31.5" (80 cm) in length. Mares Prestige 12S comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

Mares Prestige 12S Regulator by Mares

I bought this reg and used it on my very first open water dive last weekend It was fabulous! My jaw was not tired after use and I loved the bubbles coming out the side, not up in front of my mask every time I breathed

Great regulator

By

from Singapore, Singapore, SG

Used it for one trip - so far so good. No issues and airflow was smooth and not tiring on the jaw. Would need to monitor usage and see if anything unusual comes up but trust Mares for their regs. This is the second reg we bought from Mares with the first one still working but buying this as an upgrade.

Very good regulator

By

I used this regulator for my last 10 dives and, overall, a I find it very good. The ease of breathing, at any depth, is amazing. The extra flex hose is good but at times I found it pulling on the second stage. The mouth piece is comfortable and jaw fatigue was not an issue for me.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  I saw this 1st stage sealed?
kevin j  Putting a question mark at the end of a statement does make it a question. What is your question?
Shopper  What is the maximum pressure in the air tank I can use with this regulator? IE: 4,350 PSI. Thanks!
DAVID S  Don't know, I use 3,000 PSI
STEVE C  Unless you have an oversized tank size ( im speaking normal air not nitrox) the pressure ranges I think to be safe are 3500-3700 range. Its not an issue with the regulator being able to handle the increased pressure, its the danger of overfilling the tanks.' Thanks, Steve
Frank L  The yoke connection is only rated to 230 bar, or 3335 psi. If you want to use higher pressure, you would need a 300 bar DIN connection, which would be good to 4350 psi. This would be the DIN you need for the 12s first stage: http://www.leisurepro.com/p-mrsdamr12/mares-300-bar-din-conversion-for-mr12-v12-and-r2-regulators.
Shopper  Is the Second stage of the Prestige 12S, being "plastic", usable/good in cold temps, high 30s to mid 40s? Thanks.
RENEE T  The coldest it has been in is the high 40s. I have never had a problem with this reg
STEVE C  The Mares 12s reg I have an use works excellant in cold water, at times it makes a small sound whilst breathing but never any issues. The only thing I see different than the one i own is there is there is more metal on the one i own. I was on a dive boat this week in Australia with 62 degree water and it worked fine, there were 3 others on the boat with the same reg. Steve
ADAM C  I can't say for temps that low. However, I've used it in mid 80 degree water and down to ~50 degree water and didn't notice any difference in performance. This is a good all-a-rounder but I think Mares makes a similar product for really cold diving.
JOSHUA E  I've never used in cold water. I don't think it is designed for that though.
