About Mares Icon HD Air Integrated Hoseless Computer, Wrist unit

Icon HD net ready is the new frontier in gas integrated computers. Whereas until now the dive computer was simply a passive receiver of information, with the new Mares bi-directional technology, Icon HD is ready to communicate actively with the tank module for an unprecedented level of safety and user friendliness.

The combination with icon's high definition color display brings tank pressure information to a new level. Detailed numerical information is accompanied by intuitive, at-a-glance color coding. Blue and green means the pressure is above the mid tank warning, red means the pressure is below the reserve, orange and yellow for values inbetween.

The thresholds are set by the user for maximum customization.

Let me be honest. I own a Galileo and I wouldn't trade it for an Icon HD. Two staff members of our LDS bought the Icon and I got to use it for 4 dives.

Within the limits that I feel the computer has...I think it is a fantastic piece of equipment. There are certain features that I wish my Galileo had.

    Pros:

    - The "3D" display is very bright, very easy to read and really well organized.

    - The operation is very intuitive.

    - The unit is very comfortable to wear "the same size and feel as my Galileo"

    - Nice Compass

    Cons:

    - No air integration at this time. It is my understanding however that this is going to be offered in the future. I don't know if it will be free or as an extra charge.

    - The wonderfully bright display has a downside. The rechargeable battery lasts about 5-6 dives. You have to find an outlet to charge it every night.

    - There is no multi-gas function. I'm not sure how much of a problem this is however. Most serious tech/commercial divers seem to use some esoteric trimix computers, but the standard tech guys in our dive shop use their Galileo's. In all fairness, this may be a neutral point.

Conclusion: If they offer a free upgrade to air integration in the future and you don't mind the constant need for A/C power every night, than this computer may be just the thing for you. I personally still think that the Galileo is a better choice.

Computer worked great for the first 5 dives, then the problems started. At first I was having problems charging the unit (which by the way you have to do pretty much every day you are diving).
The charging problem was resolved by changing the USB cable.

Then started having problems pairing transmitter to the computer. In the middle of the dive I lost the integration, good thing I had the regular console to see my air. After multiple attempts to pair the unit to the transmitter and failing, changed the battery on the transmitter. That works OK for 2 dives, then the same problem happened. Will try to repair the unit, but this problems should not happen to a computer with 8 dives on it!

Did not work out of box. Salesman at LeisurePro said he was getting numerous similar complaints from other customers about the Mares dive watch. Poor quality control at factory. He recommended instead the Aeris A300 CS.

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
TIM M  Great computer for the price point when I bought it. It is even better now that it has Air Integration.
Bill M  Will this computer work with other transmitters such as Oceanic?
MARK W  I have no idea if the Mares Icon HD will work with other transmitters. I would suggest contacting Mares directly in hopes that you could get an answer to your question.
Superior L  is there a diffrence between Mares Icon HD Air Integrated and Mares Icon HD net ready?
TIM M  Not to my knowledge. Net Ready means that it is air integrated. The prior computer was just called Mares Icon HD. It did not support air integration. When the net ready version was released, it was upgradable to air integration with the addition of a tank module.
