Amazing fins

By jim

I've been using these professionally for 3 years, teaching and leading dives in Lake Mead, San Diego and Isla Mujeres Mexico for the last 18 months. Light ( float ), kick soft, then power up when you kick hard. flick light for positioning when taking pictures. They track very well which takes pressure off the knees. ( I tried another company's hi-tech fins, had to use knee strength to get them to hold a straight line ). Hundreds of dives on them at this point, no problems with the buckle...

Just what I was looking for

By BOB R.

I have been using Sherwood Trek split fins for several years and absolutely love them...while diving. However they presented me with two problems. First, they are so big they are difficult to fit in the fin pocket of my travel bag. Next and more troubling is that they suction to my boots and are extremely difficult to remove when preparing to get back on the boat. So I tried these X-Stream fins and love them. These are so easy to remove and they fit my gear bag nicely. Although skeptical at ...

The X-Stream Fin from Mares is a performance, comfortable and lightweight design and are the incredible result of sixty passionate years at the service of diving. The X-Stream is truly a leap into the future, and changes forever how we envision the creation of a fin. More than 2 years of resources, experiments and testing and four Mares patents all concentrated in one unique product. The Optimized Pivoting Blade system (OPB) allows the blade to maintain an optimal angle throughout the kicking cycle, whereas traditional fins achieve this only during a small portion of the cycle, OPB produces a constant thrust, which minimizes fatigue and produces fluid movement through the water.

The ergonomically designed foot pocket delivers maximum power and evenly distributes pressure over the foot to minimize fatigue. The foot pocket interior features internal ribbing that improves fit, eliminates foot suction and prevents foot pocket flexing, while transmitting more power to the blade. The limiting factors in traditional open heel foot pockets are their weight and the parachute effect". When finning, water gets into the space between the bootie and the foot pocket, creating drag like the air in a parachute. The perforations prevent this and have the additional benefit of making the foot pocket very soft and flexible. Furthermore, the suction effect which can make doffing of the fins cumbersome, is now forever a thing of the past. X-Stream uses Mares patented design ABS Plus Buckles (Adjustable Binding System). It only takes one quick movement to easily open or close these buckles, even when wearing thick neoprene gloves. The double button release prevents the buckles from accidentally opening making them the most user friendly system on the market.

The Super-Channel is designed for the diver who wants the perfect blend of power and efficiency in one fin. The new blade design with a large central super-channel and two traditional lateral channels provide excellent thrust while maintaining hi-efficiency and minimizing leg fatigue. The blade uses tri-material construction, constructed of techno-polymers and thermoplastic rubber for extended durability. Mares design inspired by marine mammals. Channel thrust technology maximizes the channeling of water and moves a much greater amount of water compared to other fins of the same size. The result is greater thrusting power with the same amount of effort. The adjustable fin straps are equipped with large heel pull tabs for easy donning and doffing. Fins overall lengths are 23" to 25.2" (60 cm to 64 cm) depending on size and weights 2.9 lbs. (1.34 kg). Fins are available in multiple sizes and colors.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

ANDREW C  I have 8EEE feet and wear Bare Tropic 3mm hard sole booties. The size chart says SM, but no adjustments for boot type. Should I stick with Small or would Regular be more appropriate for my foot / boot combo?
Mario C  This fin is usually a good choice for thicker sole boots as it has a tall foot pocket. Given that the small is for boots up to sizes 6 - 9 i would recommend the small still any problems, make use of our PFF program : ) Hope it helps https://www.leisurepro.com/i/pff
JOHN S  Would you recommend wearing booties with these fins ?
ANDREW K  Good day. Yes, booties are highly recommended with the open heal design. Hope this info is helpful, and have a great day.
MICHELLE S  Yes it is almost certainly needed. They would be very uncomfortable without them. But short or tall, either work for me.
AARON C  Absolutely, i wear felt bottom booties with mine. The heel on the booties help hold the fins on, and prevent the straps from rubbing against the skin.
MARC S  Yes
KATHARINE D  yes this fins require boots or shoes
Mark K  Yes....these fins are made of firm plastic and would be really uncomfortable without booties. I really like the fins...good luck
MICHAEL B  Yes wear booties with these Mares X-Stream Open Heel Fins.
BENJAMIN B  Yes I would wear booties, I use xcel booties with mine and they feel great
BLAKE H  I wear boots with mine, they are a bit uncomfortable without. However my wife wears her set all the time without boots.
CHRIS L  Definately
THAMER A  Yes, I think it designed to be used with boots. But you can use it without but it will not be comfortable as with boots
MARK P  Yes, the fins would be too loose to wear without
DAVID S  Sizing chart leaves a lot to be desired. I wear a men's 9 m and wear boots. What size should I order?
CAMERON S  I am also a 9m. I ordered a regular and it fits perfect.
CAROLYN M  I bought these for my son and bought one size bigger than his shoe size so I would suggest a 10
TIM S  I have the same fins. I wear a size 10. My dive shop had me try them on with my dive boots and I ended up needing size 12 fins. I also changed the heel strap for a better, more secure fit.
YELENA T  could you please tell, description says that weight is 2.9 lb . Is it weight of one fin or two fins?
YAN G  Combined weight of both fins.
Caitlyn C  Anyone bought the pink/white mares x stream fins? Didn't know if the white part became dirty after multiple uses, or if they were "cheap" looking in person.
JAMES M  I do not have the pink/white, but I do have the blue/white and they get a little dirty, but my main issue is with performance. The Mares Volo Power is so much better on the surface and in the water I don't know why anyone would buy these fins. The Bolo Power are also less prone to breaking because there is no weak hinge point like on the X-Stream. Just my 2 cents.
ANDREW K  My yellow and clear (white) still look great after 150 dives
