About Mares Wave Open Heel Fins

Another new entry in open heel fins, the Wave uses three material construction to apply specific properties where needed. The upper part of the foot pocket is molded in soft rubber to guarantee the maximum comfort. The blade has big soft rubber insert perfect to get the ideal Super-Channel water flow. The remainder has the rigidity and strength needed for superior propulsion.

The ergonomically designed foot pocket delivers maximum power and evenly distributes pressure over the foot to minimize fatigue. The foot pocket interior features internal ribbing that improves fit, eliminates foot suction and prevents foot pocket flexing, while transmitting more power to the blade.

Wave uses Mares patented design ABS Plus Buckles (Adjustable Binding System). It only takes one quick movement to easily open or close these buckles, even when wearing thick neoprene gloves. The double button release prevents the buckles from accidentally opening making them the most user friendly system on the market.

The Super-Channel is designed for the diver who wants the perfect blend of power and efficiency in one fin. The new blade design with a large central Super-channel and two traditional lateral channels provide excellent thrust while maintaining hi-efficiency and minimizing leg fatigue. The blade is constructed of Tecralene and Thermoplastic rubber for extended durability.

Fin comes in three colors and three sizes, has an overall length between 23" to 26" (58.5 to 66 cm) and weights 2.8 lbs to 3.7 lbs (1.26 kg to 1.7 kg) depending on size, and come with a 24 month limited warranty.

The Mares Wave Open Heel Fins is commonly used for SCUBA and more. The Mares Wave Open Heel Fins is popular because customers like the following qualities of the Mares Wave Open Heel Fins: Accommodates Boots, Comfortable, Efficient, Lightweight.

Comments about Mares Wave Open Heel Fins:

Bought these last season and went through my open water and advanced certification, found then a little challenging to get on in the surf. Just completed my rescue dive course and they broke in half just passed the side reinforced area. Lousy design, and not at all happy that after only 30 dives they are ruined.

Comments about Mares Wave Open Heel Fins:

I've tried a couple high-end fins (Nova and Slingshot) but these outperform both for half the price. They're the best-kept secret in fins and so versatile. Comfortable on a rec dive but still stiff enough to haul a 30-lb bag of urchins back to the boat. My older fins are either/or but if you want one set to do it all, get these! Did I mention they're lightweight and comfortable? Amaze.

Comments about Mares Wave Open Heel Fins:

Nice open heel fin. Very efficient. I kept looking back at my dive buddy and having to slow down until I got used to them. Stiff enough for good control. The button release takes a bit of getting used to but it's manageable. Will probably replace with spring straps at some point.

Comments about Mares Wave Open Heel Fins:

Took these to Cozumel and they embarrassed my friend's splitfins, especially in strong current. The Wave's are light, stiff, have a wide flat blade, and tall/deep stringers to keep water overflow to a minimum. Three of our DM/instructors had negative things to say about splitfins for Cozumel's strong currents. I still love my Atomic Splitfins, but didn't bring them for comparison.

          Questions about this item:

brandon w  Are these positively or negatively buoyant? Also...how stiff of a fin are these?
Steve S  They are negatively buoyant. They are a bit stiff, but not bad.
Roberto V  I intend to use this boots for tropical diving. Can you use them without boots or socks, or is it too uncomfortable?
ROBERT M  You'll need boots for proper fit and comfort. I wore my fins with both 3 and 5 mm boots for tropical diving.
Lindsay D  Hi will the seasoft 3mm sunray boots in size xxs fit into the xs mare waves?
PHILIP M  Not sure. I have the size small (S). But, they are very wide. I use 3mm Cressi and XS Scuba boots and you can easily fit a finger between the sole/base of the boot and the side of the foot pocket. The top to the foot pocket just touches the top of my boots, but as you move toward the toes you can fit one finger between the top of the boot and top of the foot pocket. With my Atomic Aquatics size small, my 3mm boots are a nice snug fit.
