About Mares Flexa 5-4-3mm Men's One Piece Wetsuit, Black/Gray

The Flexa family is the highest expression of Trilastic. Flexa uses different thickness for different areas of the body, 100% ultra-stretch high quality neoprene, with unparalleled finish and attention to detail. Suit is equipped with a Back Zipper with smooth neoprene flap for more comfort and isolation. New rubber tag custom closure and back zipper puller with leash. Back Protection System (BPS): an additional layer of neoprene stitched in the back provides additional comfort and thermal protection.

Trilastic concept was born out of intelligence and superior stylistic technology. The concept offers versatility in a wide range of environments and transcends various water temperatures with minimal layering. Too much material in the wrong places can result in pointless bulk and unnecessary buoyancy. The idea is to minimize the thickness in the regions not requiring critical heat retention and making the suit easier to duff and don. Thinner more flexible neoprene, gives you more comfort. Overwhelmingly accepted, the materials for this concept start with a high tech plush material cushioning the skin and generating warmth, superior sealing materials and construction lock in the water that your body warms. A super elastic material properly placed provide a greater range of movement. This combination of materials, their arrangement in specific areas creates a line of intelligent wet suits.

The BPS takes inspiration from the Mares BCD line. By adding a wide additional neoprene layer in the lumbar region, the diver benefits in multiple ways. The added neoprene adds warmth to a critical area of the body. It also fills the empty space in the back that sometimes allows water to seep and move causing the diver to get cold faster. The added neoprene also adds padding and protection to the back when wearing a heavy cylinder system on the beach or boat deck.

Custom neck closure system allows for an easy customization of the neck fitting. Velcro neck folds in on itself when needed to eliminate snagging of the plush lining or neoprene. Flexa has a front zipper with skin-on-skin zipper seal for superior water seal. Supratex knee pads, protection made of anti-scratch polyurethane not only looks sharp, but is engineered for high strength and protection without compromising flexibility. The linear design moves in line with your body while still guarding this high wear area.

The internal thermo plush lining is soft, smooth, durable and allows increased freedom of movement, guaranteeing extreme mobility. Its refined finish keeps you warmer yet, prevents the suit from retaining water promoting fast drying between and after diving. All seams are triple glued and double blind stitched for superior strength, durability and waterproof seals. The Flexa 5, 4, 3mm Neoprene Trilastic suit comes in multiple sizes and is black/gray in color.

Useless after plastic zipper pull breaks

By

For those of you who are considering a Mares wetsuit, stick to a brand that uses a zipper with a metal pull tab (slider). My son purchased a Mares trilastic 5-4-3 in '09, used it on a single dive trip, and then pull tab broke apart when he pulled it out of storage for our second dive trip. I called Mares and they said it was out of warranty, and they don't repair their own products. He could have at least provided me with a list of business who can repair the zipper, but no. So, for the lack of durability, I give Mares 1 flag. In contrast, I have a 20 year old Body Glove shorty (with a metal pull tab) and it has held up great.

Great!

By

If only it were front zip!!! Typically having between 12% and 13% body fat, I get cold very easily. 78°F definitely warrants a suit like this for me and it's nice and toasty till about 72°F, then I notice the joints start to get a little chilly when I move around. The wrist and ankle seals are super! I don't know about the neck seal though since I wear a hood. I suppose it's working. There's this zipper keeper that keeps the zipper from coming down, which I thought was a pretty nifty idea.

Questions about this item:

BONY C  Hello am interested in buying this wetsuit my height is 5'8 ", weight 170, chest 38.2, waist 36.7, have a neosport 3/2 mm size L I noticed that the measures are different what would be the correct size for my size M or L?
RICHARD B  I BELIEVE A MEDIUM WOULD BE A BETTER FIT. I HAD A LARGE WHICH WAS SNUG AT 6'0 190LB....PLUS THE ARMS AND LEGS MIGHT BE A BIT LONG FOR YOU. GREAT SUIT BY THE WAY.
KEVIN S  Order both. Try them on, keep the one that fits, return the one that doesn't. It's worth the few extra dollars to return ship to make sure you get the right fit. I will make one note regarding this wetsuit. I bought it last year and did not use until last week. After four dives the velcro neck closure (hook part) peeled away from the base, so no more velcro closure. I took it to my local Mares dealer and they said that this has been a problem. They are checking with Mares to see what is the fix and if Mares will fix at no charge even though technically out of warranty. My experience with Mares are they are not the best at supporting products particularly so we will see. Other than that I do like the wetsuit and I hope Mares comes through with proper support.
MATT R  I am 6'0", 170lbs, 32in waist, 40in chest and normally wear a full body neosport 3mm wetsuit. I haven't yet worn my Mares 5-4-3 in the water, but I ordered the Large and it fits great. I actually have a little room to spare in the torso area, so your added waist size shouldn't be a problem. The height actually seems perfect for me. I'm very happy with the suit as far as quality, feel and fit. I hope that helps. Good luck!
CHRISTOPHER P  Wet suit is great!! Runs a little tall by a cpl inches other than that sizing is pretty accurate. Very comfy and nice to dive in
ADOLFO W  I am 5'6", 175lbs, chest 41, waist 36 and the Mares Flexa in M fit me just fine. I also own a 2.5mm Mares Reef that is also in M and it fits well.
Ben T  I would say the Large but being you are on the border. You should really try both and see how you feel.
Shopper  I have a old mares wetsuit number 6, with size is correct for me X ou XL ? Im 5,8 and 215 pounds (i know, im overweight..kk)
JARED J  I'm 6'2" and ~200 and XL fits me pretty perfect. I think at 5'8" it will be too long. I think your extra 15 pound will be fine in a L, but you don't want the ends of the arms and legs to run too long as you would lose the benefit of the sealing material at the ends that needs to fit tight to the skin.
Shopper  I'm planing to do cave diving in Yucatan, will the Flexa 5-4-3mm will be good for the water temparature (70-78 F) or should i get the Flexa 8-6-5 I'm 6'1'' and 190 pounds, which size will be better? i'm guessing Large since most of my previous wetsuits, but also some of them were XL like some Akona models.
JARED J  I've only been diving with this suit in the Red Sea around Sharm el Sheikh where water temps have averaged around 80-85 degrees lately. I have been comfortable, slightly warm. Very warm if the suit is on before i'm in the water. But no complaints. Cant speak for 70 degrees. As for size, I was in the same boat as you. At first thought I woudl get a large, but I got an XL based on the recommended size chart and it fits perfect. I'm 6'2" and 198 pounds, athletic build. Its nice and snug on my shoulders (size 42 suit jacket if that helps, 34 waist if that info helps). I would recommend an XL based on your size. I dive pretty regularly with friends who work year round at professional dive centers and all i've received are compliments and jealous looks from other divers. The suit works good, looks good. Feels high quality.
GREG H  It doesn't sound like you have a lot of body fat, as my stats are just about the same and I'm typically between 7% and 10%. I've only used my 5-4-3 in Hawaii, during December / January... but the Yucatan and Hawaii are pretty close in latitude. With the water being around 75°-78°F at depth, I was SO happy to have this suit! Only when approaching 100 ft did I begin feeling a few chills... pretty much only in the knees and elbows, however. I hate when fat divers recommend 3mm shorties for high 70s to low 80s waters hahaha. That crap doesn't work for me! I can't speak for low 70s... but if I knew the water was that cold, I'd get the 8-6-5 in a heartbeat.
