About Mares Dragon BCD with MRS Plus Weight Pockets, Black

Mares' new Jacket Style Dragon Bladder design is tightly tailored to reduce drag, placing much of the air cell around the tank. The air cell is contoured to greatly minimize the feeling of the bladder underneath your arms, and gives comfortable surface flotation. All that ergonomics and still has a lift of 44 lbs. (20 kg) size large.

Innovative protective buoyancy cover material: Superior combination of 3D Alutex net adds protection, abrasion resistant, with a smooth shield fabric covering. The air cell is made of durable 420 Cordura denier. The Mechanical Release System (MRS Plus), Mares evolution of the first mechanical weight system introduced to the market, incorporating a newly designed buckle system, one pull movement to release your weights. Ergonomically shaped pockets to form to your waist, with large, zippered opening allows for easier insertion of weights. Maximum load of 13 lbs. (6 kg) with most sizes. Inside hook and loop to section the pocket in case you don't use the full capacity.

The Dragon has two rear trim weight pockets holding up to10 lbs. (4.5 kg) total. These pockets are positioned in the lower part of the BCD for better upright body efficiency at the surface, and a more streamlined profile. Back Protection System (BPS Plus) patented dual position lumbar capability. Heavily padded in either position, you can double the padding for increased lumbar support or extend the length of the padding depending on body shape for ultimate pre-dive comfort.

Smart D-ring position with large AISI 304 stainless steel rings, 2 bent: 2 upper and 2 lower that are positioned intelligently within your downward vision also functioning as leverage while inserting the weight pockets. Comfort is paramount with the Dragon with its independent harness which allows the air bladder to inflate away from the diver eliminating the crushing effect of BCD's that have fixed harnesses. Elastic cummerbund secures the BCD in place and adjusts for wetsuit compression at depth. QAS-Quick Adjust System, change the length of the cummerbund for a better customized fit. A neoprene padded collar and internal plush lining also adds comfort.

BCD comes standard with 3 Pull-Dump/Overpressure Relief Valves, one incorporated into the top of the Ergo Inflator; one located on the right shoulder and a third is located on the rear lower right. Activation of the valves are made easy with both the upper and lower right valves coming with pull cords and the valve incorporated into the Ergo Inflator is activated by an internal cable attached to the inflator mechanism. Inflator includes a 3/8" threaded low pressure quick disconnect hose.

With torso adjustable shoulder straps, adjustable chest and waist straps, all equipped with squeeze-style" side release buckles for easy donning and doffing, two angled zippered pockets, rugged carry handle, dual position hose clip for your gauges, shaped shoulder straps adapt better to alleviate pressure on the shoulders, safety whistle and lots of lift 44 lbs. (20 kg) in the large size makes this one great BCD. Dragon comes in multiple sizes and an owner's manual.

Good stuff

Very comfortable and well made. Easy to adjust with large heavy-duty buckles. I've only had a max of eight lbs in each weight pocket but they've been stable, no issues to report there. Rear trim weight pockets are a little hard to get at but other than that I'm pleased. I added the Mares air control inflator / octopus and would recommend that combination.

Not the quality or durability I expected

I purchased this BC to do my divemaster training. After 60 dives the plastic is peeling off the denier and the decorative plastic is falling off. All my gear is well maintained and this BC was never abused. Bottom line is that this is no a durable, professional-quality product. I am returning it to LeisurePro and will purchase another BCD. Another irritation is that Mares provides no way to contact them directly. Everything goes through a distributor.

Don't buy Mares gear. You've been warned!!!!!

By

from Melbourne, Victoria, AU

Myself and 2 friends purchased these BCD's There is a major issue with the weight system, basically the pockets come out during the dive causing an assent. Hopefully you're experienced enough to control it.... it's a known issue and mares haven't done anything about it. My BCD also failed after 3 years. The BCD started leaking around the neck stitching causing around 20 streams of bubbles. the dive shop and I believed this to be a manufacturing fault. The BCD was sent to Mares via the dive shop as Mares don't have a way for customers to contact them (another very poor thing) but because it was out of warranty (not long) they weren't interested. Terrible company to deal with!!!!!! It's clearly a manufacturing fault, the stitching was to close the the inside of the bladder. Basically, it was always going to fail. It's the 3rd Mares item that's failed me (gauge failed after 10 dives, wetsuit Velcro peaked off after 2 dives) Buy this equipment at your own risk. I'm personally done with Mares.

Excellent BC

By

This is a very well made, designed and comfortable BC. The very first time I used mine I lost a weight pocket but after further review I feel it was more my fault than a design problem. I don't believe I got it positively engaged before diving. Anyway I have more than 300 Dives on it since and never lost another pocket. The BC is still in all around excellent condition and functions perfectly. If its a Jacket Style BC that your looking for then I highly recommend this model.

Perfect In The Water

By

Buying a Mares BCD (and all Mares equipment) was a no-brainer for me because there is a Mares Lab 3 miles from where I dive in the Caribbean. I chose this one because I won't be traveling with it (it's bulky) and it's comfortable and perfect for my dive needs. I've used it on 8 dives so far and the weight system is PERFECT. It is the first BCD I've owned but had tried Oceanic and other BCD's before choosing this one. So far I'm very happy in more ways than one.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
CRAIG W  I'm an instructor. We use Mares as our rental gear. The durability, ease of use and easy servicing have impressed me.
GERALD O  This is everything you would want in a BCD looks fit comfort.
PHILIP P  Very durable construction, hybrid bladder so you have small side bladders and the rest is around the tank. Nicely padded harness and back plate, weights are fairly easy to operate, I imagine they will get easier as the BC breaks in more. Certainly strong enough to lift the entire setup with tank by the loop strap.
dugd111 d  6' tall, 215 lbs, 38" waist, 44-46" chest. Large or Extra Large, that is the question?
RUSS D  I would get a large and the pro is good you can always exchange it.
Rebecca B  Extra Large.
DONALD A  I am 6'4" 235lbs with a 38/40 waist. I purchased the XL it has adjustable straps so you can adjust the fit. The waist I think is not important because it calls for a medium for a 38 waist
ADAM H  XT large you will glade you did incase you want to wear a thicker divesuet ....enjoy
CASEY J  Can only say this is the most comfortable BC I have ever owned. I'm a squatty body at 5' 9" 275 48" waist and 50" chest. Mine is the extra large.
Amy L  Weighing Mares Dragon or Prestige or Cressi Aquaride but need some advice before final decision. Female, 5;8.5" and 120 lbs. Advanced open water, nitrox certified, going for PADI rescue diver cert this autumn. Using Aqualung Legend reg. Dive mostly Red Sea, however, will start traveling to dive more often. Any thoughts about which of three is likely most appropriate for me?
Chris G  I have owned the Mares Dragon for over 100 dives mostly in the Caribbean, Male 5'6" 140. it has preformed great and never let me down and is very comfortable to dive. I will say in my experience as a travel BC it is a bit bulky and a little heavy to travel with although I have never exceeded the 50lb limit with all of my gear.
