I bought these after having to hike a 1/4 a mile to the dive site in full gear. I like having something more solid under my foot and the arch support they afford makes them more comfortable for me. I wear a shoe size 11 and bought these as 10s from the comments people made on them. Good thing. They could be just a skosh longer but I think the 11s would have been way too big in volume. Only dived them 5 times since the purchase so I won't know about durability for a bit but they appear to be quality made and they were an excellent price.

I bought these mail order without trying them on, and wish I had. They're very well-constructed with a thick outsole and a surprising amount of foot support. The heel cup really makes your foot feel more secure. They almost feel like hiking boots, these would be perfect for walking across lava fields in Hawaii.

However, because of their rugged construction and thick sole, they don't fit into my Apollo Biofins. Unfortunately I have to send them back. The sizing is very large - I wear a size 12 shoe, ordered an 11, and I'm swimming in them. A 10 would probably do it, but a 9 wouldn't be out of the question. A little velcro patch to keep the zipper up would also be nice, but I haven't used these in the water so don't know if that's really an issue. They're also quite heavy (~ twice the weight of a thinner-soled boot), something to consider with the new weight restrictions on airlines.

A great rugged boot, but oversized, heavy, and too large to fit in the toe box of my fins.

The Perfect Boot!

Comments about Mares Trilastic 5mm Dive Boots:

These are the most comfortable dive boots for Metal Detecting the beach and shallow water that I've experienced.
They are very well made and easy to slip into with the zippered side.
In the water the snug fit seemed so perfect with lots of side to side control and forward walking motion. Never too tight or loose!
On the sand they felt natural and comfortable with plenty of control.
Sizing is an issue with these boots! You may have to go down one size than you normally wear. I wear a 9.5/10 Tennis shoe depending on the brand but my foot measures slightly under a 9. The size 8 was/is perfect. No slop!
The snug fit I equate with better control. There was no soreness after a 2 hour hunt , in or out of the water!
I would recommend these boots to anyone needing a well made Dive Boot or as the perfect platform for the Beach and Shallow water MD'r!

I like the hard soles of these boots. I can put these on and walk to the boat and don't need another pair of shoes. I did have to buy another set of fins because the boots would not fit in my old pair.

Good boot for shore dives

Comments about Mares Trilastic 5mm Dive Boots:

Good quality boot, runs large and is wide, still fit my fin pocket ok. For boat dives I still like my 3mm short boots, but for the shore diving where there are rocks or other hazards, these are great. Good sole and arch, almost feels like a pair of sneakers! We'll see how long they last, but it would seem they are heavy duty and will make it through many shore dives, long walks, etc in my warm area. Size wise, I'd normally be a true 11-1/2 mens, bought an 11, and they are still a bit loose, mostly in width.

Comments about Mares Trilastic 5mm Dive Boots:

The Booties are a tad size too big. I had to send it back to get a size smaller. I wear 10/11 normally, and had to get a size 10 as 11 booties were way too big. So stay with you minimum size. Having said that, it fits well. Very comfortable and warm. The product is very durable and I'm sure will last me a very long time. The soles are great to get over rocky ground. I do think the fin tab on the back of the boot to help hold up the fin straps are a bit high. But then again, I've never had a pair of boots with fin tabs on it
and I use spring straps. Not a big deal, it just takes some getting use to. All in all, this was a good buy and I'd buy it again if I lose these.

These things are solid as can be, you could walk over hot coals with no fear. They are extremely warm and 5mm is way too much for tropical waters. I look forward to wearing them in the colder waters off Catalina Island.

        Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
NICOLE K  I've been using these boots for the past two years and really like them especially the hard sole. In addition, the high top boot works better for me as it supports my ankle. While my current boots are still in good shape, I decided to get a second pair and use them for whenever I travel. This way, I have a set for the pool/local lakes and one for travel. Hope this helps.
May D  Are these really a full size bigger? I usually wear a men's 8-8.5 (normal width) so should I order a 7 instead? I don't want to have to wear neoprene socks to make them fit.
MICHAEL M  Yes - I would advise i size smaller.
MICHAEL Z  The wife needs a pair. Normally wears a 6.5 woman. Will a size 4 be adequate?
Frank L  Would recommend a size 5, they run a little small.
