About Manta G8 Reel

Your G8 dive reel is supplied with a stainless steel locking screw and stop nut. The end of the locking screw has a stop nut to prevent accidental loss. The G8 Series Spool's are machined out of one piece of UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) plastic. This plastic has one of the highest resistance's to the elements. Reel is supplied with either 185' (56.4 meters) of #30 nylon braided line or 250' (76 meters) of #24 nylon braided line.

G8 series reels are assembled with stainless steel handle and specially treated shoulder bolts to prevent unscrewing. Reel comes with a 4.5" (11.4 cm) double-ended stainless steel bolt snap to provide quick release from equipment D-Ring or the reel. Spool locking is accomplished with two (2) large holes in the spool which enable the screw to penetrate and provide a positive lock. A redundant spool lock can be accomplished by placing a bolt snap thru hole in side of spool. Spool tension is continuously applied with Manta's innovative wave washer. Reels are made in the USA and come with a 60 month limited warranty.

About Me Advanced

Pros

  • Solid Construction

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Drift diving
    • Emergency

    Comments about Manta G8 Reel:

I use to deploy a surface marker at the end of drift diving.

There are no switches, only a knob. The knob is big and yellow and easy to find and operate with bulky gloves. Very minimalistic design so doesn't snag (as much) on other gear, and there are very little moving parts (compared to other reels).

The chassis of the reel is wide enough so you can see between the locking bolt and the line holder. This is nice because unlike other reels that have switches, you don't find yourself guessing if its in the locked or open position. You can clearly see if the knob is engaged and by how much.

There is no tension feature. But when using it as a drift reel, Tensioners just cause more problems than they are worth. I prefer not to have that option. It won't accidentally slip into tension when my SMB is shooting to the surface.

      Comments about Manta G8 Reel:

After 08 years as a professional in the dive industry, I finally found a reel that keeps up with the day by day pressure. Is the only reel that is still working in perfect conditions after 03 years of almost every day use. Any other reel that I've tried, either broke, fell apart and/or became rusty.
For me is a very important tool because of our drift dives. That's how my boat captain knows where we are.

      Strongly recommend!
